  1. That game Stewart threw. Mark! Walking out onto the ramps at the cell after the July 4 fireworks and literally being surrounded by fireworks, to the point that I got to stand there with wife watching fireworks in front of the Chicago skyline for 20 minutes.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 08:57 PM) Reminds me of Bears not trying to beat Packers at end of regular season last year. Huh? The Yankees are winning. Big.
  3. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 06:01 PM) Can somebody please tell me what the reason is that MY BROWSER KEEPS MARKING THREADS I'VE READ AS UNREAD?! I'll go through a forum and read the new stuff in about five threads and when I got back to the forum, all or most of the stuff it had already marked as read will be unread again. THat happens to me on rare occcasions when I'm flying between lots of threads.
  4. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 05:46 PM) problem is students lose an ipad and the cost is huge. Lose a textbook and the cost is 1/4 of an iPad. And the textbooks rarely have active GPS tracking tags.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) I personally believe that the Bears could be run much better, but they arent exactly a poor team. Frankly they should have built a 100k+ stadium and should be raking in more money to put back into the team. I think thats one of their largest errors as well as keeping Jerry Angelo. I actually think Angelo does a decent enough job with what he has to work with... But you're right. There's probably 3 cities that can support a Cowboys-style megapalace. New York could but they go the 2 team route instead. Dallas can. Chicago can.
  6. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 04:17 PM) not sure about that, last night he almost bunted it into the crowd down the LF line......in about 45 minutes we should never have to see that again which is a good thing. Actually caught the stat, he's got something like 15 bunt hits this year.
  7. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) Going to be SO glad not to see JP and bunting next year You know, he's actually been somewhat effective bunting for hits this year.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) I hope we stop it with the small ball bulls*** immediately. De Aza has the green light, everyone else should be focused on taking the extra base on contact. De Aza only has the green light as long as he uses it wisely. I can't even imagine the ozzie defenders enjoyed seeing the 2 out, 2 strike caught stealing that everyone knew was coming.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) Good, 2012 shouldn't matter. If Dunn and Rios don't turn it around, it's very unlikely any possible moves he could make to improve the team would push the Sox over the top. And if they do turn it around, team might well win the whole thing anyway.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 03:41 PM) I admit my take on this one may be off base. Morel and Flowers aren't speed demons though, are they? I guess Beckham has potential to steal some bases. Lexi is not a base stealer IMO. At this point, a "Base stealer" is the last thing I want. I want good ballplayers. If they happen to steal bases, they better do so successfully.
  11. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) He's a 60 inning reliever with excellent K numbers. Deal him now, he will not be missed in 2014. Yeah, I doubt we'll be thinking about pitchers when BLOOD IS FALLING FROM THE SKY FOR NO REASON!!!
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) By 2014, Santos will be just another bullpen arm. By 2014, the sky will have turned blood red. See, I can back things up as well as you can.
  13. Full Color, 7" tablet from Amazon, the "Kindle Fire". $199.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) I see what you guys are saying, I just think it isn't the smart way to widdle down your pool. If it is "Somewhat effective", then why do they care?
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) I posted in the other thread, I think they deal both and put Stewart or Axelrod in the other spot. Our pen actually fills out nicely still. I wouldn't mind Stewart starting the season at AAA if they intend to keep him a starter. He's been in the bullpen already in his career and Toronto spent a lot of time working to undo that while making him a starter. A year in the bullpen is a worse step back for him than it was for Sale.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) I'm trying to play devil's advocate here. You get 500 resumes for 1 position to fill. 300 of the resumes are from people that are currently working, making their current employer more efficient and profitable...adding value. 200 resumes are from people who haven't worked in 2 years. How sharp are they after that time off? What skills have they learned during that time? Not saying this is what they're thinking or that it's right but I bet it's part of their thought process. I like the specificity of my 375 applications better.
  17. I have absolutely zero problems with this and am happy to tell anyone who does have a problem with it to leave me alone.
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) When are you going to win, 2014? Santos value will never be higher than it is right now. Actually, there's plenty of reason to think it could be a lot higher next year if he cuts down on the blown saves and snaps off a complete season.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) I'm telling you right now Quentin with only 2 team bidding on him before the deadline was commanding some serious names, better than you think. It will be even better with more teams in the mix. Then he should have been moved then before he blew out his shoulder again.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) Really, you genuinely expect anyone to shiver in their boots over the Iranian navy? You can't possibly actually be scared of this, and yet you think that the Kenny "The Genius" Williams Liberal is the one to laugh at...not the threat of the Iranian navy. Wait, WTF did the Swear Filter do? I think it was the word "H*llywood"
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) I just assumed that employers considered the unemployed as the bottom of the barrel. The other thing to remember...they're certainly not all "The bottom of the barrel" but when your pool of applicants is 375 applications, if the unemployed are more commonly the "Bottom of the barrel" than otherwise, you're going to save yourself a ton of trouble by just saying no to all of them. There'll still be plenty of qualified applicants amongst the employed.
  22. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) Wait, someone explain to me how Chen can still be traded. He has cleared waivers and thus can be moved for any player that has also cleared waivers or is not on the 40 man. He would be ineligible for the postseason roster though, as that must have been set as of August 1.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) I expect to get a package better than Edwin Jackson commanded, so top 100 prospects are definitely in play if not top 50 for someone like Danks. Quentin is going to be an interesting bat on the market especially after Pujols and Fielder sign. Just because a GM made an utterly horrible mistake in trading for Edwin Jackson doesn't mean that the other 29 will make the same mistake. Zach Stewart was on Keith Law's prospect lists, but now where else, and he really belonged at AAA for the 2nd half of this year if you were truly 100% focused on developing him. And frankly, if I'm another GM, I want no part of Carlos Quentin. I'm not paying him $8 million or so in arbitration for 1/2 of a season of an .850 OPS if I'm lucky.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) I think we'll get some pretty damn good players for Danks, Floyd and Quentin If you want pretty damn good players, you're not getting them MLB ready. D1 had a terrible, injury-shortened season and is a FA in a year. Quentin had an injury shortened season again and couldn't come back at the end of the year at all, and for all I know as an opposing GM might have plenty of lingering effects next year. Floyd had his worst season since 2007 and has had his ERA slowly getting worse the last 3 years, although he does have 2 years before he's a FA so that counts for something. I'm not giving up a top 50 prospect for any of them unless that top 50 prospect is 2 years away from my roster. I'm just not.
  25. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) Did we not get any Major League-ready talent in exchange for Danks, Floyd, and Quentin, whom you've presumably traded in this vision you've presented? I seriously doubt we're going to get anything major-league ready for any of those guys given their contract status and performance this year. If you get anything major-league ready, it's a guy who doesn't project to be all that.
