  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Floyd's fastball is harder, his curveball bites more, and his change dives more. Floyd is a far superior talent. If the poise we've seen from Humber is a normal thing for him, then that's one thing I'd say he has on Floyd. It's just something about Gavin that makes me think he's constantly scared up there. And on another note, I don't think I'm ever going to get used to pronouncing both Humber and Morel's names correctly.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) I am hoping that Peavy is back May 8th in Seattle where I will be watching in person I don't think they've given a time frame yet, but isn't it basically a sure thing that he won't be back that soon? I believe he has to start from scratch again while working his way up to being able to throw 100 pitches in consecutive starts before he gets a chance to play for the Sox.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) For the love of the game. FOR THE LOVE OF MY VOMIT That one that came out within the last few years, I think it was Mr. Brooks, wasn't that bad. But anything that involves Dane Cook being killed is alright in my book. I'm sure I'll get s*** for saying this, but Bull Durham wasn't even that great. It was a love story with the backdrop of a baseball movie, and all it's really done is provide douchey "baseball" quotes that will never go away.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) This. b****es love Royal Weddings. They don't need to be royal. b****es love weddings, period.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 12:02 PM) The guy hitting .400 w/ RISP this season. (I know, sample size, only 20 ABs) The guy who hit .301 w. RISP last year, .320 w/ 2 outs. That guy. Yep, that guy.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 11:57 AM) hello Kevin Costner. Remind me to kick your ass for Waterworld. Thanks. Kevin Costner deserves to have his ass kicked for many other movies, not just Waterworld.
  7. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) I was hoping for a nice ovation for Humber when he gave up his first hit, as is customary in most stadiums when an opposing pitcher has a fantastic game, but I didn't get the vibe that any of those cheers were for him. Yankee fans are notoriously narcissistic. Their team has won 27 World Series. It's annoying, but any fanbase would be that way if their team dominated the sport as the Yankees have.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 07:57 AM) A couple Sox fans had an awesome day at O'Hare. I really dislike seeing how people defend coaching staffs. Yes, it's somewhat unfair that they should be held accountable for the failures of the individual players, but that's how the game works. If that weren't the case, coaches would have their jobs for life unless they went on some unbelievable anti-Semitic diatribe on live television.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) Toughens up the skin supposedly. Yeah, helps with blisters. It's stupid, though. Who rubs urine on themselves? It's gross. I just drink mine.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 01:48 AM) They are signs that it's atleast starting to turn around. If anything, Dunn looking better at the plate alone makes the offense quite a bit more dangerous on its own, and the bullpen has been roughly one million times better than it was through the first 10 or 11 games of the season. The starting pitching, for the most part, will be there, so it's a matter of getting the rest of the offense back on track. My two biggest concerns going forward in the lineup are Rios and Pierzynski. Rios has shown in the past that he can sustain this sort of ineptitude for pretty much the entirety of a season, so until he starts producing a bit more, I'm going to worry about him. And Pierzynski scares me because he didn't show anything until like the final 8 weeks of the year last year, and he has a ton of mileage. It just doesn't seem like he hits any balls hard anymore. I also worry a little bit about Pierre mainly because teams are playing their LF so far in against him that some of those shots he hits to LF are staying up just long enough that whoever is out there can get to it and because they are playing so shallow, no runner on earth has a chance to score when he does get one to LF. I've been saying that Pierzynski will be the black hole in the lineup since day one. You know that guy who seems to come up in a big situation almost every game and you just have to sigh and accept the fact that he's going to GIDP? That guy.
  11. I was going to post in this thread solely to make a bad joke about dinosaurs in the Bible, but the only two other posts already took care of that.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 12:19 AM) There's as good a chance of that as there is for Peavy Wow, so you're saying there's no chance? I was hoping for some optimism.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 09:25 PM) Sox have played horrible baseball the last 2-3 weeks, horrible, probably can't play any worse, and they're 3.5 behind Tigers and 1 behind the Twins and both those teams have flaws as well. I'm not quite ready for that firesale. Eek, we've heard that before.
  14. Thankfully someone has finally stepped in as the closer. He has to do it a few more times to prove it, but it's nice to know he can get it done. Humber, what can you say? The guy has been way more than we should have ever reasonably expected. Is there any chance he can put together an entire season worth of good starts?
  15. It's taken quite a few years, but it seems that the vast majority of posters here are finally in agreement that a member of the coaching staff and/or front office needs to hit the chopping block. QUOTE (Andrew @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) I don't see how. This isn't football when you can just cut someone who isn't playing satisfactorily. These guys have guaranteed contracts and if you're going to talk about "meaningful" than names like Beckham and Viciedo and Vizquel and Teahen better not be uttered next... But whatever - move some silly pieces around and willfully ignore the fact that no matter what the roster turn over, we go through ENTIRE TEAM slumps, get baffled by rookie pitchers, and it's always too cold in April-June to hit the f***ing ball consistently for now the 5th year in a row. - Walker is first to show/last to leave - "Small ball" our way to an inspired team - Players play, not coaches blahblahblah... In the name of the Kenny, the Ozzie, and the Walker......Allin.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) Speaking of Best Picture, I saw King's Speech this weekend. It was solid, though definitely not my Best Picture of the year. I completely disagree. What is your choice, though? (Please don't say Inception)
  17. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) Nobody's getting canned (yet). But the one on the hottest seat should be Kenny. It's kind of sad that our debates revolve around who deserves to be fire the most, not whether someone deserves to be fired
  18. QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) You sure it's not Sqwert's new avatar causing the 'problem'. Na, I see plenty of vaginas covered by Sox logos when I watch the games. It does nothing for me anymore.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) starting with the Sox last year. LOL
  20. QUOTE (11and1 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 01:04 AM) Throw Ozzie under a real bus, with KW driving and all the players on board. Rinse and repeat with Greg Walker. Spend whatever it takes to hire a no-BS manager who commands respect and demands maximum effort every day. (See the Bulls pre and post Thibodeau and the Blackhawks pre and post Quennville.) He doesn't need to be fun or interesting or a fan favorite, and he should be way too busy trying to win to spend time tweeting. Ozzie lost the team a while ago and it's time for the team to lose Ozzie. I'm seriously getting an erection reading these last few posts.
  21. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 12:31 AM) We have been saying this for years ... Honestly, why not replace Ozzie at this point? It can't get any worse regardless of who they choose. Besides, why do the fans care about having a manager who the "players like playing for (so long as you don't ask any alumni)" or continuing to accept a manager who has led high talent / high payroll teams to success so rarely, especially in a relatively weak division? Bring in an a hole to shake-up the place to see if they can get something going to save this year, if not shop during the offseason for a new staff... Not showing-up or in the words of the Tigers broadcasters "not being there" is 100% Ozzie's fault. He should be fired alone for the ridiculously s#itty team he put on the field today. Why continue to back this guy when he has done nothing to justify his role in recent years and has done plenty to force people to question his judgement and management style? Just saying, it's broken, what do we have to lose by going in a new direction? I love you.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) Who? Who is going to succeed Guillen? Initially they'd bring in Cora on an interim basis and then who knows who they bring in. The only guy I can ever think of that got fired midseason and the team went on to succeed was Torborg in 2003 being replaced by McKeon. 1 time out of the hundreds of others doesn't seem to be good, especially when it's a veteran ballclub like this. If s*** doesn't work this year, you make wholesale changes next year. Seems simple enough to me. That's been said a few times over the years. These changes never come. It's entirely reasonable to hold somebody accountable during this season. It doesn't have to be Ozzie, but somebody needs to take the fall for this horrendous start. I'm not sure people understand just how bad this start is. Reinsdorf is probably pulling his hair out. We've pumped this payroll up higher than it's ever been. We were told that it would be completely necessary to draw a lot of fans to help support the inflated payroll. And because of the necessity to draw fans, the team would have to come out strong from the get-go unlike their normal routine of taking April off. Not only have they not done well, they have the second-worst record in the entire sport. They are basically assured to not draw fans throughout May at this point. This means that they will have to draw a lot of people to the games for the remaining four months. The only way that will happen is if the team turns it around in a big way. Somebody will be the sacrificial lamb this season. I mean, it has to happen and it will be completely justified.
  23. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) So? I don't care about this site, I care about whats on the field.. This is just a great place (most of the time) to talk about the Sox, but some people make it unbearable.. Maybe those will be the ones who are gone! If they are done then they can dismantle or do whatever in July.. I still don't know why people want people fired right now and people traded/released whatever in fn April.. there are a LOT of things that can happen, and if they are still a failure come late June-July, then yeah I expect changes to be made.. but until then they deserve a chance to right the ship with the "All-In" mentality that went into this year.. For the love of Christ, many of us have been asking for someone to be fired for years. IT ISN'T JUST ABOUT THIS APRIL.
  24. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) I'd hope I could find some rational thoughts on what's become a really reactive and irrational message board that sometimes shows signs of being an intelligent grouping of baseball knowledge. Then I'd realize that if there's a rough stretch, everyone wants someone fired, just so the team can keep doing the same thing, with a different over-paid, face in the locker room. Translation: nobody will ever lose their jobs no matter what.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 11:40 AM) You gotta make a change of some kind at this point CHANGE FOR THE SAKE OF CHANGE NEVER WORKS! YOU'RE JUST REACTING TO A RECENT SET OF GAMES! ADWOIAHGOIJHADGISOHLKWAHGLKHAG!!!1!!1
