  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) I didn't say I love the dude, but yeah. We also have different tastes when it comes to enjoying winning baseball, so there's that, too!
  2. OK, B-R is confusing me. It may be even less than 44 games with an appearance in the outfield for Lillibridge.
  3. No matter what you want to argue, the guy has great numbers against lefties and he has power. He also has a track record of playing the outfield at least adequately. According to B-R, Brent Lillibridge has appeared in the outfield in a total of 44 games in his career. Yet, we're all so certain that Brent is the better outfielder. Lillibridge is faster than Milledge, period. EDIT: Sorry, I screwed up the number of games for Lillibridge.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:50 AM) Except for in what was his only full season, 2008, where he put up a .757 OPS against righties and a .671 OPS against lefties. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) He wouldn't be a full time player this year. He'd be a situational DH/PH. He seems to hit better with limited playing time.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) And you're expecting Lastings Milledge and his career 1 HR every 50 at bats to be the difference there? After two seconds of research, it was easy to see that you only looked at total numbers. I'm talking about how he performs against lefties, and he hits them very well.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) I find him to be rather funny. Man, we have such different tastes when it comes to entertainment.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) If you're PHing for AJ, then use Castro. If you're PHing for Pierre....well, why are you PHing for Pierre? He hits righties at .298 in his career and lefties at .305. Last year he hit .268 against righties and .297 against lefties. Because sometimes you need more than a roller between 1B and 2B, or a bloop just over the head of the SS.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) What guy in our lineup would we actually pinch hit for using a RH power bat? We have 3 lefties, Pierre, Dunn, and Pierzynski. You're not going to want a RH power bat to pinch hit for Dunn anyway. Pierzynski, you're not PHing for because he's the catcher, unless the game is out of hand. And Pierre...let's just face it, Ozzie's not PHing for him with anyone in a close game, and I'm not sure he should anyway. Definitely for Pierre. AJ too, especially with how bad I expect him to be this year. Or for any particular player who may be hitting poorly at the time. I don't understand the infatuation with Lillibridge. He has speed, but so does Vizquel and even Milledge. They may not be as fast, but they are both quick. And I don't buy that Lillibridge is a better fielder than Milledge based on two games. Milledge has seasons of being a statistically good fielder (as posted earlier in this thread). I'm not tossing those aside so quickly.
  9. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) Johnny Damon's ball yesterday was the same that Lastings misplayed as well as the same type of play Fuld messed up yesterday. IF it was misplayed itis a 3-2 and the pen is coming in. There is nothing Milledge could do better than Lillibridge. I thought Milledge could play the outfield he can not. Therefore he has no role on any team. Sir, if you honestly believe that Milledge can't hit better than Lillibridge (especially for power, and especially against LHP), then I'd get suspended for calling you what I think of your opinion.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:27 AM) And Mark Kotsay was just one guy on the roster last year. We heard that constantly. He's just one player. How much can Mark Kotsay really hurt this team? Turns out, a lot. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 09:38 AM) Indeed. I expected him to provide a pretty solid bat off the bench. Whereas with Lillibridge I don't. And now we have zero RH power off of the bench, as Ozzie won't take his back-up catcher out of the equation by pinch-hitting him.
  11. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:22 AM) What good is having talent if you can't transfer it to the field. I really don't get the what the big to do is about keeping either Milledge or Lillibridge. If the Sox season hinges on either of those 2 , then it's going to be a long year anyway. Oh God, I hate this argument. When you're in tight races every year, and you usually lose the division by just a few games, every single personnel move is important. It's the same as when people say "it's just one game in April." They all matter.
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:01 AM) How glad are you Sox didn't get him instead of Paulie, like what seems a majority of folks here wanted.. See, this is one thing I can't stand about Soxtalk. The people who wanted Lee instead of Konerko were a minority. In fact, it was a very small minority, but it still doesn't stop people from acting like it was everyone on the site.
  13. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 02:30 AM) Well I just got back from Your Highness and it was funny, it wasn't as funny as I thought it would be but I did laugh a lot during it.. I don't see why someone else wouldn't think that its funny based on the comedy that's going on it it.. Arthur on the other hand, looks terrible.. but then again, I don't care for Russel Brand I don't know anybody who does.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 09:20 PM) It probably is after today.... Haha, good point. I just thought it was in the lower 3's.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) You said the trade was an obvious loss from a White Sox perspective. How else can one read that? And how on earth could you possibly know this at this point in time? Do you realize how huge it is to have Jackson in the rotation right now as opposed to Hudson? Do you realize how vulnerable we would be at this particular stage without Peavy and with an unproven starter in our rotation? What if Hudson falters early this year, as young pitchers often do after experiencing some success? And how is it that Hudson's small taste of success with Arizona last year is somehow something that can be relied upon, whereas Jackson, who has posted an ERA around 3.5 in a White Sox uniform still needs to show us more? I can accept that some people would rather have saved the money and had the 5 extra years of service time out of Hudson. But no one can say right now that either team has won or lost the trade, because the results on the field are not yet complete. What if Jackson anchors our rotation and leads us to a division title? An ALCS win? A World Series win? How the hell do you quantify the final result of the trade before the results have even played out yet? I actually thought Jackson's ERA has been lower with the Sox.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 08:45 PM) With our luck, and the way things usually happen for the Twins, they'll dig out some guy with a .687 OPS in AA and he'll post a .800 OPS as this guy's replacement, while playing gold glove caliber defense. Oh, obviously.
  17. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 07:36 PM) slides into 2nd strike the twins again. That's a shame, I was actually looking forward to watching this guy play. Hope he heals soon. I hope he heals entirely, but I hope it takes forever.
  18. LOL at J4L rooting against Jackson.
  19. This is actually a plus to the whole "it's our year" thing. Sucks for him, though.
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) I agree with this and I'm sure Milkman does as well. I was happy to bring AJ back because he's still a legit catcher who can handle a pitching staff quite well but there's no doubt in my mind that he's going to be the major weak link in the offense this season. Yes, sir. Just give Castro a few more starts.
  21. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) I wish I could have seen Jackson pitch. Sounds like he was in rare form. Or, maybe that's going to his form for the season? If it is, he'll get himself a Cy Young. AJ did pretty much everything he could to lose this game. He's going to be, by far, the weakest link in the lineup this year. I expect everyone else to have a good year offensively, but he'll be the guy we'll be wishing weren't up in a big situation.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) Yeah, the same old song and dance. No accountability. Except for Lastings Milledge. Who got held accountable. For playing poor defense in two games. Look, I understand it's easier to attack the poster who is being negative, but we all know the pitching has been bad outside of Jackson. And even though we've put some good runs on the board, we've also already seen instances of not having the best approaches at the plate when we need to scratch one our two runs across. In this short, short season, we've seen a good offense complimented by bad pitching. That is a trend with this team (although sometimes reversed) where one aspect of the team drastically underperforms and it eventually costs the division. Of course people are going to ask how I can judge the team after so few games, but it isn't acceptable to judge Milledge so quickly. That's because Milledge is completely new to this team, whereas the team itself is basically the same over the years with few changes. Again, thank the Lord for Jackson.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) If you overreact all the time, you are due to get some comments. Especially since you get all huffy about Milledge being cut after a coupls misplayed balls but at the same time get all huffy about how bad the Sox are after a couple games. I get "huffy" because it's been the same old song and dance up to this point. Thank God Edwin Jackson has been good.
  24. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 01:22 PM) Mark Kotsay is a useful player when used properly. If we start to see a ton of Lillibridge ABs, I would be surprised. Any player that makes a major league club isn't literally entirely useless. I'm hoping your original response was facetious.
