Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) More fuel to the side of Peavy not being a ________( insert derogatory here )_________. I thought we were dropping that.

Things that need to come back...
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) Steve, Gage, Milkman, you guys sound old as hell! 25, but man is there a generational gap. I seriously remember my parents and my friends' parents being pissed at us if we were in the house for 2 hours during our time off from school. Having them tell us to go outside more made me feel like a bum for being outside for only 8-10 hours. Now it's completely acceptable for kids to be inside all day, and then they want a ride to their friend's house two blocks away.

Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) No, you never used it. But there ARE people completely writing him off which I think is incredibly foolish. You're not one of them. IMO, it's too early to call the trade a bust for the same reason it's too early to call an NFL team's draft anything until you're like 3-5 years in. You can say how the players have been so far, but broad, sweeping judgments are unwarranted. Again, this is not actually directed at you. I know what you mean and I'm definitely not taking offense. There just doesn't seem to be a problem with the statement that the Peavy deal has been a bust. It's just semantics, though.

Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 05:26 PM) I would get calling the trade a bust in a few years if he has been perpetually injured between now and then. It's just really premature. I don't believe I used the term "bust", but the deal has definitely been a bust to this point. That's not to say it can't change, but I can't see how it's too early to say it has been to this point.

Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) I have seen the word "bust" thrown around a couple of times, implying that he has no future value. It's also hard to argue that he hasn't been a bust so far. I'm not even sure bust implies that he will never come back.

Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 04:58 PM) That can easily be interpreted as "he sucks" Explain to me how he's not a drain on the team, then. I can't be held responsible because someone can't interpret what I said. I'm angry because I know he doesn't suck, in fact he's quite good. We just can't see how good he is because he's always on the DL.

Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) not picking a fight, but are you f***ing serious? Frustrated, yes. Disappointed, yes. Angry? You think this guy has done something to bring this on himself? Blame management for bringing him in, blame Cooper for not fixing his mechanics (if that's even realistic) but getting mad at him seems pretty irrational. No, not seems. Is. I don't give a f*** how irrational it is. The guy is paid extremely well to pitch and he never does because he's always hurt. I can't get angry at a shoulder injury or a torn muscle, but I can be upset at the guy who keeps having the injuries because he's not able to do what he's supposed to do. He's injury prone, I'll get him a box of Kleenex. I'll still be angry at him for being injured.

Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) Yea - but he sucks. Always has sucked, always will suck, and will never again be healthy - now that we've heard about a sore rotator cuff - it is over. He's a glass piece of s*** ass hole. I don't think anybody said he sucks or that he will always suck. The fact is, though, that he hasn't been healthy for this team yet. And yes, a sore rotator cuff is pretty bad news. There is good reason to be angry at him for never being healthy, and plenty of reason to think that he's prone to injury. And you know what, I don't appreciate you calling me out. You bring absolutely nothing in the way of baseball discussion to this board. You've been doing the same to J4L for the last week, and he's been on this board for years having logical arguments. I honestly can't recall a single post of yours that had any relevance or even more than barely made sense. I'll probably get a suspension for this, but you honestly have no basis for mocking the posts of other people on this board when all of yours are pure garbage. You bring nothing to this board, and I imagine nobody would rather see your posts over those of J4L and, I hope, mine.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) Gordon Beckham often makes outs and therefore should be beaten. I got a nice LOL out of this.

Your 2011 starting 3B is...
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) I hate to do this, but I think color plays a factor here. Now, I'm not accusing anyone here of this, but over time you happen to notice a pattern. When a young white player does these acts that have been referred to as showboating, people describe him as "passionate". When a young black player does them, he's called "cocky" or "arrogant" and accused of showboating. Would we really be having this same discussion if the player taking his helmet off after rounding third was Gordon Beckham? I seriously doubt it. Personally, I think people getting worked up over Milledge taking his helmet off is ridiculous. Why don't we want our players to have a little bit of style and attitude to them? It's not like he's trying to be an asshole and rub it in the pitcher's face. It's just something he does. If the pitcher wants to be overly sensitive and take exception to him, that's his choice. I just don't see why any fan would actually be bothered by this. I hate the race card as much as anybody, but I completely agree. I've been kind of saying this for a while by mentioning that people are confusing Milledge with Delmon Young.

Pierzynski vs. Flowers
What the organization would do and what we would do is likely pretty different. Unless the team falls flat on its face, I don't see them trading him to replace him with Flowers. They've shown that they can be taken at their word, and I'd imagine with AJ taking a pay cut, that he was led to believe that he'd be on the team through the end of his contract. I also don't know how much other teams would pay for AJ with his reputation.

MLB's Financial Problems
It's scary to see this taking a toll on so many teams. It makes you think that this economy, which we've been hoping would get better for years, is nowhere near a turnaround. This really is a bad time. I can hardly imagine what it was like during the Depression.

Things that need to come back...
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) Manhunt, Street Hockey, Whiffle Ball, Kill the man with the ball, building stuff, etc... We were outside allll the time growing up. You couldn't get us to come in the house. PS...i kinda wish i grew up in that neighborhood The funny thing I remember is that parents still used to tell us to go outside a lot, although we did go out a ton. Apparently, my parents and my friends' parents were never allowed in their houses at any point growing up. Imagine if we were like kids today...

Humber
I don't agree with this whole "ignoring somebody is juvenile" argument. I have one person on ignore, and that's greg. There is honestly no reason to not have him on ignore. He brings nothing to the table but rambling, incoherent posts with no basis in reality or statistical evidence. He's Soxtalk's version of the insane homeless man on the corner yelling at everybody that passes by him. Do you ignore that person? Yes, we all do.

Things that need to come back...
Cheap tickets for the Sox. I still remember (because it was just like 7 years ago) when you could show up at the park 10 minutes before the game, buy the cheapest upper deck ticket, and end up sitting right behind the dugout.

2011 Films Thread
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 08:35 AM) Went to see the movie Paul over the weekend. Solid. Had some funny parts. I'm curious to see what kind of reviews Sucker Punch gets. I thought Paul was pretty damn good. Like I've said before, I loved Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. I figured Paul wouldn't be on the same level, as it looks like it's more of just a movie Pegg and Frost are in together, but had little to do with making it. That was pretty spot on, good but not great like the others.

Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) I love how people are getting pissed at Jake for pitching his last start. It's not like Jake has the final call. Ozzie, Coop and Herm had to give him the go ahead, so if its his last start that aggravated it (when he had the flu) they deserve as much blame as anything. Christ, people hated guys like Javy and Swish for their less than competitive attitude. I'm only angry at Peavy because he cannot stay healthy. He'd find a way to injure himself while watching TV.

Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
I don't care how much of a competitor Peavy is, or how hard he's trying to come back to be of value to this team. He's nothing but a drain on this team. Go f*** yourself, you glass piece of s***.

Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 10:17 AM) And if either Jake pitches up to his contract or there's an insurance policy on Jake's contract covering portions where he's on the DL long term, those ecstatic posters would continue to be correct. Having an insurance policy will do little to cheer me up as a fan this season. That is, unless they use that money during the year to pick up another piece to help us. I'm watching this season with expectations that the team will do something of note, not whether or not they make back the money they invested in the team.

Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 01:05 AM) +1. There is no question that each and every time Jake pitched and side sessioned this spring all the docs, KW Ozzie and Coop sat down with him and and they checked him out. The idea that Jake was out there on his own keeping secrets is idiotic. There was always a ton of dialogue about just how he was feeling and how much to work out between starts. Nobody knew quite what to do and they admitted that they shouldn't have worked him out so hard on off days rehabbing the first couple weeks. Then they scaled that program back. There was no way to anticipate what that setback was going to be, but there has ALWAYS been an understanding that it was coming. So, the setback is here. BFD. He steps down for a few weeks and ramps it back up when he's ready. He's pitched pretty damn well all spring and once they get a handle on this soreness he's gonna be fine. Why people are so unstable about all this is just bizarre. I'm guessing it's because he's been a member of this team since 2009 and he hasn't been healthy since then. I know I'm rather upset about that.
