2010 Summer TV Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) To be fair, you have no idea what you're talking about. One would be in the vast minority to say they grew tired of Eastbound & Down after 4 episodes. Most people I know are very excited for MOHR. In general, or in regards to Eastbound & Down? I thought the show was funny, but I don't see it lasting very long. And what's MOHR?

The Official "Paul Konerko for MVP" Thread
Like I already said, most of the arguing about MVP candidates stems from the phrasing itself. Just call it "Best Offensive Player" and the arguments drop a lot.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) yes no To be fair, I don't think there is a TV show in existence that you don't like. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) Totally agreed, its just nonsense taking away from the much better part of the show. I dont mind having a few minutes on gemma and her relationship with her parents if they do something cool with it, but the whole taking the caresitter hostage in the previews just looks like they are filling an episode worth of action from it which is annoying IMO. It definitely seems like a useless subplot, but you never know if they'll tie it in with the rest of the show somehow. All I know is that they can't waste what will likely be a great performance from Hal Holbrook.

The Official "Paul Konerko for MVP" Thread
If they want to avoid all of the arguing, they should just change the name of the award. The key word in the award is "valuable," which insinuates to most that the team should do well. They should just call it the Best Player, or Best Offensive Player.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) I have problems understanding a lot of what the Irish say on SOA not just because of their accent, but they always seem to be whispering too. Exactly.

What did the Irish priest say at the very end of that scene? And I noticed something when they showed the previews. Stephen King will be playing a biker this season. I had to look it up to verify it.

Part Time Thome Kills Sox Again
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 08:25 PM) Geez only 41 post and this is the best you can come up with? This has been beat to death more so by the baseball retarded. YAWN I'm pretty sure you manage to call someone retarded in each of your posts.

6-0 and 0-6
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 11:21 PM) I thought the Sox would come home and be geared up for this homestand. They just look completely flat. Hopes dashed, etc, etc... Never underestimate this team's ability to give up.

Films Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) saw the trailer for the american "let the right one in" today for the first time. Kind of looks like a shot for shot remake. I really don't understand the point of remaking this (except to make money), but that was a pretty popular movie by foreign standards here. And it's not like that audience will see this one. I'm pretty sure it is basically an exact remake. It'll make money, especially since I doubt it could have cost too much to make. Hm, just looked it up on Wikipedia. They have it set in New Mexico. I don't know why they would drastically change the setting of the film. I figured they would have it set in Maine or Minnesota.

I find myself getting excited for Tuesday nights now. I can't recall the last time a show had me looking forward to it as much as SOA does.

Yes, but that depends on your wife's tastes.

6-0 and 0-6
I'll start by saying that I already believe this season to be over. Even if I didn't, the White Sox would still NEED to sweep the Twins series to have a chance. Gaining one game against them wouldn't be enough. Even though failing to sweep wouldn't mathematically eliminate them, I can't see how anyone doesn't understand that a sweep is entirely necessary.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 08:22 AM) I can't imagine the Twins being dumb enough to not bring him back. Unless he decides he wants to retire. Hell, they'd get to run a "chase for 600" promotion of some sort. They won't be running that promotion for too long. He should definitely get there before the end of May.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) I am liking Jax as a badass should be good. That sad/deep/p**** version was getting old quick. Jax was basically my least favorite Son through the first two seasons. I hope he becomes a badass.

Manny, Konerko, Rios
I don't think it matters at this point. We're done.

9/8 GT: Sox @ Detroit - 6:05pm CDT - CSN+
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 07:07 PM) Tom Paciorek with Frank Thomas Thanks, and congratulations on your first post. I can't remember Wimpy as a Sox announcer, so I couldn't figure it out.

September Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) It is pretty sad. It's like we gave them our best shot and they still knocked us to the canvas. It's their year unfortunately. And yes, Jimmy Thome is a big part of their success. And might lead them to a WS berth. Hell, if they make the playoffs and we don't, I would like them to win it all.

Frightening Discovery
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) Whoa there, it's your tone; it's the wrong tone. When, during any of this pile of generalizations, was the condescending, high school tone necessary? I never liked Thome, you apparently did. In fact, I grew up disliking him on the Indians; you apparently didn't mind him those years. So he hit a few nice homeruns for the Sox over a pointless 4 years did he? Good for him. Good.....for........him (slow, sarcastic clap). I swear some of you act like Jim was Mr. White Sox; Mr. homegrown, glad to be home, king of the South Side. That's Buehrle, Konerko, Baines, Thomas territory that he has no business being in the same discussions with. He grew up a cub fan, played forever on the Indians, co-founder of CWS Corpseball, played on 4 meaningless Sox teams that didn't accomplish dick. What's the big deal? I don't think Thome was the missing piece this year; the first 2 months were. We disagree; why give your arguments that personal attack feel, man? I'm not understanding that avenue. Corpseball was around long before Thome arrived. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) Brian Anderson already killed this team enough while he was here. You really hate Anderson, huh?

September Catch-All Thread
Wow, there are almost no new posts since I last checked the site last night. I'm guessing people are demoralized. I know I am, after going 7-1 and losing half a game.

it is always sunny in philadelphia, pennsylvania!
The funniest part of the show is just seeing Danny DeVito in his pajamas (basically just the white undershirt). I laugh each time I see him wearing that.
