  1. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 12:41 AM) There's a difference between being close-minded and being logical, dude. I just don't like to be inundated with s***.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) There is no point to argue this anymore. No matter how sane you are and provide countless examples of how you are right it will just be brushed away. Why bother? That's the beauty of the block option.
  3. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) Agree, props to Walker. And you're right, it's the pen that put us in this situation. Twins have 29 games left against very bad teams. Lets say they only go 17-12 in those games, which is fair and perhaps too hopeful. For there to be a TIE, the Sox will have to go 21-8 to finish the season, and that includes 7 against a team with a better record than us (BOS) and a trip to the west coast where we've always struggled. Which means we'd have to do something like this: @ BOS 2-1 @ DET 2-2 (facing both Scherzer and Verlander) KC 3-0 MIN 2-1 DET 2-1 @ OAK 2-1 @ LA 2-1 BOS 3-1 CLE 3-0 It's only 4 games, but it sure feels like a lot of ground to make up at this point. That's just a bit harsh. For a majority of this season, they were the only consistently good aspect of the team.
  4. I thought the fastest a person could throw was 103 mph. Obviously, I was wrong.
  5. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) I'm sorry, but the Hudson love is on overflow. Does anyone honestly think he would've done as good as he has in the AL? How about in a small sandlot that we play in? Jackson always had the stuff and he's still pretty young. Hudson has decent stuff who didn't have the problems that EJ did. With that said, Jackson always had the higher potential. I'm sure KW wasn't like "We'll give you Hudson for EJ...waddayasay?" He probably started with Threets and found out he had to give up Hudson. Maybe Coop didn't like something Hudson did, or didn't do, similar to BMac. Maybe the people who still want Hudson here were BMac's biggest supporters. Either way, keep in mind Jackson was in high demand. You were going to have to give something up. Especially considering they give up Scherzer for him. I don't think it is. Some people are arguing his exact worth, but I don't see anyone blowing him up too much.
  6. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 01:26 AM) Does anybody else feel like this is all silly talk, and he'll be back without much hesitation from either side? Me.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) I'm a pretty big Lucy fan, I think he can be a capable major league backup C, for those reasons mostly. But he's not on the 40 I don't believe, and they weren't going to bump off a serious prospect for him. That's why he's not here. But you may very well seem him on the club in 2011. I did not know he wasn't on the 40.
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) It depends where he ends up signing, if he resigns with the White Sox or another hitter friendly park for the rest of his career he has a shot I guess, but say he signs with the Mets or Atlanta or another team with a bigger park, then he has zero chance IMO. Of course, but I just did some quick math using the "5 years" thrown out there earlier. If he were to hit 5 or 6 more to finish this year, he would have to average about 27 a year.
  9. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) I'd like to see Paulie back here next year, and for a few years for that matter. Looking at his HR numbers, I would think he would need about 5 more years for 500 HRs. I wonder if he'd make it. I would think it would be possible, especially if he transitioned to a DH. He's definitely one of those guys who could stick around long enough to reach that milestone.
  10. Forgot about the game, so I didn't even follow on gameday. Must have been a quick one. This is what we need to do from here on out. It's not an ideal situation, but we have to sweep the terrible teams and eke out wins against the good ones.
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 11:20 AM) He had 5 hits. He happened to have a little hot streak while he was up here, he didn't earn anything, he's still bad. Even for as much as Flowers struggled in AAA this year he still out OPS'd Lucy by about 150 points. He seemed good at calling a game and on defense. We have plenty of room for a guy like that for the last month, I'd think.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) Thank you!! If you want a good 1B that can't hit, you can get Kotchman for 1/10th of the contract Konerko will get. Or just keep Kotsay.
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:35 PM) Look Greg, the Sox made a big investment in acquiring Manny in terms of money, they have him for only a month. 31 games to be exact from when he officially joined the organization. With the Sox being down 4 games to the Twins and with such a short amount of time left, it just seems logical to put out the best lineup possible. From what we have seen out of Kotsay this year, a tired Manny>>>>>>Kotsay. And really, he was just going to DH, and with already having alot of time off this year, Manny shouldve been ready to go. And for those who say "Manny doesnt take well to orders," well, hes with us for one month and he needs a new contract. Push him to play and he will, because he needs it. And if we burn a few bridges with him because of it, so what, we'll ride out the situation and say thanks ofr bein a big bat for us for a month and we can move on. Yes, we won the game, but that doesnt mean it was the SMARTEST decision. Did it pan out? Sure. That doesnt mean Ozzie put us at a disadvantage compared to the alternatives. It's like having the right answer to a math question but no work shown. You might have gotten lucky with the result, but you didn't prove that you know what you're talking about.
  14. You would think Lucy earned a call-up with his performance earlier in the year for the Sox. And hasn't Flowers been terrible?
  15. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 09:52 AM) The Reds could be a very good team for a long time. The cubs really need to hope no other team in that division steps up as they could lose a whole lot of games until the money opens up. Anyone but Yanks or Red Sox. Wow, as the playoff picture stands today, there are only two teams I'd actively root against. They are the Yankees and the Phillies.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 09:13 AM) The only thing I disliked about T2 was that Arnold's character was too cheesy with the one liners. I also wanted him to be more bad ass by killing anyone who wanted to harm John Conner instead of shooting their knees or using tear gas. I liked that the T1000 scenes were very dark. Unless you count the helicopter part, which was funny.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) Yep, cause the only thing that matters in baseball is if you have good guys on your roster. I know I don't want actual good players, just good all around guys that'd I'd love to have a beer with. I love me some PK, but signing him longer than 2 years would be a bad bad move. Hell, I'd love to have a beer with Manny much more than Kotsay or Teahen.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) Not that he hasn't been great, because he has...but I highly doubt Arizona is upset about that trade. It's crazy how both guys in the trade are two of the best in baseball over the last month. It's like Volquez/Hamilton circa '08. Which one of Jackson/Hudson is the steroid user and which is the heroin addict?
  19. Thank you, Edwin Jackson. You too, AJ. Manny deserves a nod, also. These wins where we almost lose it in the 9th (plus all of the games we actually do blow in the final inning) are really taking a toll on me. I feel exasperated.
  20. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:32 PM) And if people are wondering why they kept in Lilli its because if they used Manny theyd basically have no one who could play 2b/SS/3b if something crazy happened. Or something pretty normal, like the bullpen blowing this lead.
  21. Thank God for that. We now have the lead, and I don't have to drive myself insane due to Manny not starting.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 06:44 PM) You're talking Manny Ramirez and calling someone else a drama queen? You're still trusting the word of a known POS. And even if you trust what he said, he said "it's on Manny to convince Ozzie to play him" or something to that extent. Perhaps he did attempt to convince Ozzie. I don't care whose choice it was to sit him. It's the wrong choice.
