White Sox Should Make a Run at Billy Wagner
Milkman delivers replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) And Neal Cotts sat around in the bullpen saying "come on fellas, gather around and I will tell you a tale of what it is like to pitch in the ALCS" Joe Buck made a similar comment in the final game of the ALCS that year. They had a shot of the Sox relievers sitting on a bench, and Buck said something like, "Neal Cotts is telling the other relievers what it's like to pitch in the ALCS." -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) He has done a lot of (idiotic) IP managing to get in and make his 10 posts before he gets banned. Who is that? -
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) I understand what your saying and that's my point in the long run. Stop crucifying the guy already. He did his debt, and now let's see if he could resurrect it the same way we're going to see if Dante is. Let's not give this guy more crap, especially when the other guys who have done worse don't get much pub at all. Now we may disagree on the dogfighting/hunting thing, but I just want people to stop giving Vick so much attention for something that's been said and done, and the sentence is over. So when the convicted child molester moves in across the street, I should just assume he's a changed man that paid his dues and I shouldn't judge him anymore for his crimes?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) Watch it folks. Should I rephrase it to say it's a good analogy if you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about?

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) I didn't know Leonard Little's story all that well, so I can't comment on him. If he killed a human, he's the same as Stallworth. If he killed dogs or animals, I hope he did his sentence and let's move on. The Buehrle hunting analogy is probably the best thought of analogy up here. Sure, if you're an idiot.

QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) Freddy Garcia: Everything Javy Vasquez is not. I'd normally point out that you didn't spell his name correctly, but f*** Javier Vasquez.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) Jakey-Jakey first made a mistakey He came to his senses A good rotation is now stellar. That might be the worst attempt at a haiku that I've ever seen. And I've seen my fair share of them.

Thi is encouraging and all, but I can't help but laugh a little at how this reminds me of all of those epic simulated games for Wood and Prior. EDIT: In regards to the hype around such a tiny little thing.

QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) That was one alleged incident where he was playing cards. Fact was, the pitchers just didn't like him. Hermanson, as I recall, never saw any of that and even advocated his coming in. I don't know about Rios. I'll trust, however, that KW, learned his lesson with Javy. I'll guess he did his homework. And where are those assholes Matt Herges and Brett Tomko now? In the minors or out of baseball. AJ, on the other hand, is hitting the best of his career and shining his ring daily.

QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 03:37 AM) I like Jim Thome Lots better than Todd Ritchie He was complete trash post the white sox related haiku you have written here. There's no way I'm participating in poetry, but I still want to tell you how awesome it is that you started the thread with this particular haiku.

QUOTE (GordonNotDavid @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) How the mighty have falled. In 2005, Pods was one of the better baserunners in the game, but now while he's arguably as fast as he ever was, he runs into outs like he's Juan Uribe: Midwest. Who was this guy? I notice that he's already banned, so he must've been a former poster who returned.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 12:00 AM) The holier than thou attitude people have taken with Michael Vick is at best laughable, and more realistically hypocritical. I love dogs, but there are people in the NFL (and all over sports) who have done worse things than Michael Vick, and good people (like Tony Dungy) have said he legitimately seems remorseful, and i'm a big believer in second chances (not 3rd, 4th, etc, but 2nd chances yes). Um, what? I have never murdered or tortured any animal or human, nor have I done anything remotely similar or evil. How in the f*** am I then a hypocrite?
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 09:17 PM) I own dogs but there is no way that what Vick did is worse than murdering a human. Depends on the human.

Would you be a fan of becoming more defensively oriented?

QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) We just faced the mariners, who are pretty crappy on offense, yet they have a better record than us. Lets compare the stats. Runs: CHW - 529 SEA - 455 HR: CHW - 136 SEA - 107 OPS: CHW - .753 SEA - .718 We are clearly a better offensive team than they are. They may have had a better 1-2-3 in the starting rotation throughout the year, but their 4 and 5 problems are even worse than ours. In my opinion, the reason they have a better record than us is because of defense. Jack Wilson sucks up everything at SS. (i know they haven't had him the whole year, though) Adrian Beltre is excellent at 3B. Franklin Gutierrez is the best CF. Ichiro is great in RF. Their defense is a big reason why they have a record that they have. I am tired of seeing lousy the white sox and their lousy ass defense cost us runs. I really hope that Alex Rios becomes the starting CF soon. Would you be in favor of signing somebody like Randy Winn in the offseason, just to solidify the defense? That's just an example. We have a great pitching staff for the future. I think it's time we start getting some good defense players to back them up. We would obviously have to sacrifice some of our offensive production if we did this, but I think it would be worth it. Is that true? If so, I had no idea. Also, I'm pretty sure Hawk said that the Mariners and White Sox are the two worst fielding teams in baseball. Did he actually say that, or am I making this up? -
Motherf***er. He was hitting well and finding his stride.

QUOTE (GordoTheGreat @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) I agree, Farmer likes to mix it up, with something other than that "He looks up, you can put it on the board yes" crap. Variation is the spice of life. Variety. Close enough, though.

QUOTE (Wise Master Buehrle @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) It takes on the personality of the team... which you defined well with "Jekyll and Hyde" Wait, who is this? I don't remember ever seeing this handle, but you've been around since 2003.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 12:00 PM) There's no reason to be too angry. If a .500 team can win this division, we'll be there all season. If it can't, we won't. Maybe we can hang in there all the way, but I go back to Justin's article. Our team is a flirt like he said. Maybe next year we'll catch fire and be better than .500ish. We get great pitching and suddenly we can't hit a lick. Oh, we better be better than .500 next year...much better. If not, every member of the team should give their checks back and retire.

I noticed last night that Podsednik's steal percentage was like 67%, I believe. That also isn't good at all.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) While others have focused on the "2009 is a wash" part...take note of the other thing. 2010...this team could be really, really good. Oh yeah, I really can't wait for the 2010 season.

White Sox Take Advantage of MLB Market

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 08:08 PM) Great article and the only thing I'd disagree with is Rios only having 4 tools. His power, if you're looking at SLG% as an indicator, should actually increase quite a bit from where it is now. A lot of those doubles are going to turn into HR's here, not just because of the park dimensions but also because of the heat in summer and the winds, and even though Rios can hit to all fields, I think he'll become more of a pull hitter here. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Rios become a 30/30 guy in the Cell once he gets comfortable. And man, Rios' D is really going to help us in CF when we're playing in larger parks, specifically Comerica. I've always had a hard-on for this guy and I'm so glad Kenny went out and got him. Oh great, it's not like every other player we've ever acquired turned into that. -
QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 08:56 AM) Yeah, the ball bounced Seattle's way a few times last night, but I'm not going to make excuses for them. Pods got picked off of third like a f'n Little Leaguer. Cox sent Nix home on a fly ball to Ichiro that wasn't nearly deep enough. And even in the middle of what looked like a dominant 10 K effort from Felix, they Sox still managed to get 6 hits and 4 walks off of him... but couldn't get a single runner in. Going 0-11 w/ RISP is f'n inexcusable. This offense hasn't even looked like it's been trying for the past week. That's the worst part, and it seems to happen quite a bit (and I'm talking over the span of a few years).
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 06:02 AM) 3 runs in the last 23 innings. Pena wasn't the problem last night. That said, glad I fell asleep during the 5th. Well, he had something to do with it. I agree that it is about 90% on the offense, but Peña also looked terrible (something we're coming to expect of him).
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 07:15 AM) Seeing how Minnesota and Detroit are equally as bad right now, and the Sox are only 2 games back, I think this kind of talk is silly. He admitted we can win the division, but that it's fairly obvious we won't make much noise. I don't think it's silly at all. We're looking at the same scenario as 2008.
-
You can't blame the game on Pods. Sure, he embarrassed himself out there, but so did the rest of the offense. By the time Griffey put the nail in the coffin, we were basically begging to be euthanized. We wouldn't have scored in 30 innings.
