Peavy throwing from the mound
Man, his arm must be about to fall off. He's been throwing from the mound "right now" for like a week.

Shark Week!
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 09:03 AM) The shark in the first Jaws was supposed to be 25' — stiil bigger than the accepted max. record of 21' for a Cuban specimen from the 1940s, but not nearly as large as the (likely erroneous) 30'+ historic reports. The biggest myth that needed busting from jaws is the myth that a ruptured scuba tank would cause a fiery, head-exploding spectacle as it did in the film. Are you saying that it is completely impossible that a Great White could get to be that big? I mean, it doesn't sound like an enormous stretch to go from 21' to 25'. You're the authority around these parts, though, so what do you think? And in regards to the scuba tank, even if it didn't explode, I would figure that the force of the tank (as they usually go flying around when ruptured) would possibly kill or at least irreparably injure the shark.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) Awesome win. Pods again. Pods naysayers DIAF. I looked that up on urban dictionary. Die in a fire? Is that seriously what you were going for there? And in regards to this game, I still can't believe Pods is doing this. It's great to see, and he's been very clutch. Beckham is just unbelievable. Great jobs by Carrasco and Thornton, and good jobs by the rest of the bullpen. The rest of the team didn't perform very well, and I am starting to get more and more sure that Contreras will not be on this team next year...and that is fine by me.

chris young teh unbelievable suckfest
QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 07:41 PM) Mike Cameron is a guy who had a pretty rotten year at age 25 as Young seems to be doing. Cameron was .210 / .285 / .336 in 1998. He turned it around pretty nicely, but never really is going to hit .300 and always will strike out. I'm a little surprised by how Young has struggled. Young's year in Birmingham was ridiculously impressive. Not only did he set extra base hit records, but he got progressively better every month - fewer strikeouts and more walks. I thought he was going to be the kind of guy who makes adjustments and has eye-popping peak numbers....like .290 / .400 / .520 with plus plus defense in Centerfield. His problems may be mental - maybe he stopped working hard enough when he made it to the big league level, or maybe he got super conservative and he just keeps going back to the same routines because he had early success, even if they were bad habits. Young needs a change of scenery - I think he should go to a pitcher's park so he's not trying to jam the ball out of the park every AB. So, you're saying Young should start doing the same steroids Cameron did?

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) The Peavy deal allows them to move Danks or Floyd and only need to find a number 4 in the rotation........ f*** that. f*** that right in its ass.

Rick Hahn on the Score
QUOTE (beck72 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 06:55 AM) With all the talk of "assets", "worth", "value", etc. excluded is that Beckham and Getz are baseball players, who know the game, play it the right way, and have instincts you can't teach. You can't have too many of these type players, no matter the power numbers they may or may not provide. The sox have been criticized for exactly that--not having enough players who are baseball smart and savvy, who can make contact off the best pitcher's and not get mowed down on 3 strikes like Uribe, BA, Fields. Beckham isn't going to be moved from 3b in the next few years, as long as Alexei is on the team. We can talk about it here. But it's pretty clear nothing has been mentioned to that effect except the opposite-that Alexei will play SS as long as he's here. So, do you acquire someone to replace Getz? Fine, who and kind of production can he give the sox? Will that production better the 2009 numbers? That might be easy. But can the sox find someone who can better the improved numbers that Getz in 2010 should give, such as a .280 avg. and have a .350 OBP. ? I don't see it. IMO, it's better to shore up the bullpen, and the OF, esp. CF. CF is the spot to target and improve upon-both offensively and defensively. I see Pods in LF, Q in RF and Dye at DH. I completely agree. Our rotation is basically set for years if healthy. We can plug the 5th starter role with one of our up-and-comers or sign a fairly cheap FA starter (I'd probably go with a prospect). The position players are almost all set, except for CF. I like the idea of Pods in LF, Quentin in RF, and Dye at DH. If Pods gets hurt, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to put somebody else out there. The best bet for CF would be Figgins, I'd imagine. Spend any money we have on bullpen and Figgins in the offseason, as those seem to be just about the only holes we have. How is Figgins in CF, anyone?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 07:55 AM) Go to the last Cuba level and loot TNT, Guerrilla Squads, and Armored State cars. Best weapons/armor/vehicles in the game. Either that or work on collections. I have been doing that last level, but not for the reasons you stated. They just seem to have the best ratio of payouts. My collections are all done, minus the one you need to get through the lottery tickets.

By the way, lost, what do you do after you have mastered all of the jobs? I finally did it a few days ago, and I kind of just float around leveling up for almost no reason.

Rick Hahn on the Score
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) Well said. Dick, let me stick with analogies, as long as we are making them. Say you like to watch tv both in your bedroom, but also in your basement. You watch tv in your basement most of the time, and often watch the games down there with your best friends. You basically just use your bedroom tv to watch tv before you go to sleep at night. You have a decent tv in your basement - a 37 - inch Samsung. You have a crappy 19 - inch Emerson in your bedroom right now. One day, your son, who won the lottery, buys you a new 58 inch Sony with all the bells and whistles. Now, you can put it in your bedroom, and throw your 19 inch tv out, simply because your bedroom is closer to the front door and you don't have to lug the big 58 incher down the stairs. Then you'll have the 58 inch tv in your bedroom, where you don't watch it as much. And you'll keep your 37 inch tv down in the basement, where you watch all the big games with your friends. OR You can take the inconvenience of lugging the new 58 incher down to the basement, but have that baby with all its bells and whistles where everyone can appreciate it and get the most use out of it. You can then, if you make the effort, put the 37 incher that was in your basement up in your bedroom, and throw your old crappy 19 inch tv out. Which would you do? In my mind we are doing the equivalent of putting the 58 inch tv in our bedroom, even though we don't use it as much and keeping the 37 inch tv downstairs, where we watch all the big games. I guess for now it's alright, because it's not easy to move that 37 inch tv to the bedroom, but if we get the chance, we should get around to that. In your scenario, though, the crappiest TV would be Getz, no? That isn't the case, as he'd be the middle TV, as he's definitely not the worst. The s***ty TV would be Fields or whoever.

We love you Gordon, oh yes we do
QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) I think we love Gordon because he will definitely be a .300 hitter for a lot of his peak seasons. How many times has a full time Sox hitter hit over .300 between '05 and now? Only twice. The '06 JD and PK. Outside of that, no full time Sox player has hit .300 over the past 4 years. That is terrible.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 05:09 PM) If you're level 200 and you're picking on a level 40 for no reason and keep at it that's pretty unnecessary. I suppose, but that's also part of the game. The only time I attack somebody that low is when the game freezes when I go to fight, so I have to get around that by going to the hitlist. I then pick out an easy target on the hitlist, attack them once, and it gets me to the fight screen.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) lol that's not abuse. I mean, she was fighting back and you were responding. I mean I could see if you were a higher level than her and robbed her 10 times out of the blue while she is sitting defenseless, but not so much. She is just being a p****. Uh, even that is part of the game. I fight people all the time in Mafia Wars, and I specifically target the weakest people out of the choices they give you.

Most exciting sporting event you ever attended.
I've been to a ton of White Sox games, and there have been some pretty great ones in there, but the best game I've ever been to was my senior year of high school. St. Rita vs. Brother Rice in the game that would not end. It broke the record for most OT's, and Rita won it in very dramatic fashion.

Rick Hahn on the Score
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 06:20 AM) I find it funny that you're supposed to put guys in certain positions so they have more "value" in people's minds. Who cares what position Beckham plays as long as he's in the line-up. I saw one post where if you put Chase Utley in the OF he just becomes your regular 30-35 homer guy with 110-120 rbi, like there are hundreds of those around. If Beckham gets even better than he is now and stays at 3rd, he'll probably be the best 3rd baseman the White Sox ever had. I don't see the downside. I really don't understand the disdain a lot here have for Getz. In March, the consensus was he should lead off, now after performing about as well as expected, he needs to be replaced. I guess fans are conditioned to scoring via the longball. They complain when thats the only way to score, but when a guy like this comes along, since he doesn't hit a lot of homers, he's garbage, and needs to be replaced by someone who can play 3rd and hit homers. Beckham's "value" is his value to the White Sox, not his "value" vs. others at certain positions. If the White Sox are better off with Beckham at 3rd, that's where he's most valuable. If its second, the same. As long as he's in the line-up, I'm happy. Beautiful. Nicely said.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 02:47 AM) Yep, that is exactly what was said b/c I said it. And I wish I never had b/c this "Slayer" s*** went too far. One of my buddies who goes to Georgia said that, but he was definitely exaggerating. I mean, my buddy said he was always with girls that were hot, but saying that he "slays puss like no other" was definitely something that I repeated even if it's not true. I can't believe something I started has gotten to where Beckham now knows about it. I feel bad b/c, really, no guy wants that reputation even if it is true. Uh, I do. Having a reputation like that does not impede a guy's ability to get laid. I know of plenty of guys who fall into that category. Some girls don't care at all.
