White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) Not really. Ozzie delves into his bench a lot anyways. This may require just a little more of that, but it's going to be hardly noticeable if Ozzie plays the cards right. And now we'll actually have talented bench players!

I never thought I'd say this, but... stop being so pessimistic, jphat. I have all of the confidence in the world for KW, as should you.

White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) I love it. I didn't even want to comment on the topic before now because I was afraid of being disappointed. Alex, like CQ and Floyd, seems like the ideal 'change of scenery guy." The talent is undeniable. You just have to marvel at the masterful job KW, Rick Hahn and CO. have done in just two short years in regards to upgrading the talent on the big club and restocking the farm. We were a f***ing mess in 2007. Now look at us! I'm not sure what's going to happen this year (I think the Tigers are going to win the division), but this team is in prime position to own the AL Central for the next 3-5 years. Rick Hahn has to be one of the higher candidates for GM of another team this offseason, right? The guy's good. This move was great, no matter if it blows up in our faces. It was the right move to make. As I said before, I'm pretty sure this spells the end of Dye on the White Sox after this season. Thome as DH for 2010 with Konerko moving to DH in 2011 while Viciedo takes over 1B. It leaves us with the power lefty for next year PLUS the chance to see him crank out his 600th homer on our team.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
I don't think there's any reason to trade AJ and bring up Flowers for 2010. Flowers will need more time to adapt to major league pitching and get better at catching. I thought he wasn't even that good of a catcher yet?

Guillen threatens to start beanball war
Yeah, if he's going to run his mouth like this, today would've been the perfect day to put it into effect.

Is Dye being traded for Rios???
Is it a personal attack to ask someone if they are actually retarded?

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 07:44 PM) Doesn't sound like we are getting him. What? I got the complete opposite from that. Why would he say he's not confirming or denying it when he can just flat out deny it if it wasn't the White Sox who claimed him?

Films Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) Besides a couple cool scenes, GI Joe was a terrible movie. Poorly acted, and the script was really bad. And really the CGI wasn't that good either. I don't know what it is about CGI, but most of the time it looks incredibly fake to me. A good example is I Am Legend. Besides being a terrible movie it its own right, the monsters looked like cartoons. This was supposed to be a movie with a big budget.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) I would answer you, but you've been cherry-picking my posts since you joined this board, your presence here means nothing to me. I'll just put you on ignore from now on. I just like to point out things in which I find fault. And don't worry, I won't ignore you so I can continue "cherry-picking," ha.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) Aside from RH-ness....I like the looks of it. Then eventually we could move out AJP for T-Flow. Get Quentin to DH if Mitchell/Danks proves ready. Although, For next year, I have this feeling the Sox (if this Rios thing goes through) have internally started leaning towards saving money by cutting ties with Dye and trotting Thome out for one last shot. They need a lefty bat in there, and Dye is now in his second straight year of second-half slumping. It seems to me that it's becoming more and more clear that Thome will be the guy sticking around next year. Dye will probably be offered arbitration, if it's possible to do so, and allowed to walk. I can't say I disagree with the decision, as we are going to need some power from the left side and Thome doesn't seem to have quite fallen apart yet. I'd miss Dye, but I'd also miss Thome if he left. One of them has to go if this trade happens, though.

Films Thread
Watched The Kite Runner earlier. Really good movie...I can't remember if someone from this site told me to watch it before, or if it was a Netflix suggestion. Either way, I thought it was great. Since it's way too hot and muggy to bother going out, I'll be making it a movie day/night. Plan on watching Gandhi and Public Enemies later.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) His UZR numbers in CF last year were elite. Aside from idle speculation all we have to go on are his UZR numbers in '08, his athletic ability and elite numbers in RF. I haven't read any of this thread besides this last page, but this would be great. I had no idea Rios could play CF, and well at that. This would help the team incredibly. Let's hope this goes through.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 11:03 PM) What happened to this ?? After you compared Beckham to Francouer I thought you were done making ridiculous threads. 1. Have you been watching lately or just looking at the boxscores? CQ is hitting the ball pretty hard. He almost single handedly beat the Yankees a week ago, and even his outs have been tough outs. 2. People may have been tired of Paulie for KILLING us last year, because he KILLED us for the entire 2003 season. (maybe we make the playoffs if he decided to show up that season) CQ will hear it from sox fans if he hurt us for long periods of time that are similar to Konerko slumps. 3. The timing for your thread is comical, CQ is hitting .316 with a 1.093 OPS the last 7 days. That won't happen because he'll be too busy hurting himself for long periods of time. QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 11:05 PM) And what do you base that on? CQ will be fine. What do you base that on? His sterling record of health?

QUOTE (Fedor @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) That's not exclusive to Soxtalk, though, but most fans our age and younger. Neurotic and hard to please. Yankee fans, for instance, haven't felt joy or exhibited sense of good-will toward fellow human beings since, what? 1950s? It's, like, a scientific fact. Are you EVER going to fight in the UFC?

Shark Week!
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) It did go flying all around but didn't explode and that was the myth. Yes, but I bet that would also kill the shark.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) Hey I was there too. Actually, I think I got those tickets from a poster on this site. I believe That Funky Motion was giving them away for free, and I was the first to grab them. EDIT: Lower reserved, too. It was awesome.

Angels in Our Outfield, Infield and Stadium
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) Yeah, I was pretty siked while in attendance when we hung a 20-spot against STL in June of 2006. At that moment I was positive like HIV that the Sox would roll through everyone again... Shortly afterwards, the friggin 57-win Cards that we outscored 97-3 in a 3 game set won October. My head hurt for almost a year after that. First off, that is hilarious. Second, I was at that game, too. It was great.

Peavy throwing from the mound
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) Torres looked servicable against Tampa and the first start jitters should be gone. Hudson will have all of this stuff to work through. I'd also like to see if Torres does ok for him to stay up until Peavy is ready and then stay with the team through September. The starters could use that extra day I would think which they will not be getting if they skip the number 5 spot. Torres is the clear choice. He already put in a good effort, so he has shown the ability to pitch in the majors plus he earned a second try.

QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) If we can start going first half 2005 on everyone for the rest of this season that'd be great. Win the first two and take the pressure off for the remaining 1 or 2. This team is starting to get me excited. Or even first half 2006. As I recall, I was more excited about that team's chances as they were destroying teams.
