What a superstar Albert Pujols is
Milkman delivers replied to chisoxfan09's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) It wouldn't shock me if he does fail a test. It wouldn't shock for 90% of the players in the league. However, until there is a legit reason to say he's guilty, I'm not gonna say he's guilty. I respect your view, but I don't like to hear how it's completely unfair to assume he's a cheater when he has played in the dirtiest era in the history of the game. -
The best Cuban pitching prospect, Aroldis Chapman, defected
Milkman delivers replied to Cubano's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Stocking @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 05:32 AM) From Trib: Extra innings: Jose Contreras and Ramirez concurred with scouting reports on 21-year-old Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman, the top Cuban prospect who defected while in the Netherlands during a tournament. "He throws 103 miles per hour," said Ramirez, who maintains Pedro Lazo is the best pitcher in Cuba. I hope Torres becomes his agent. Cubano, what the scoop on Lazo? If he's 21, how in the hell would Contreras be able to guarantee he throws that hard? He would've been about 15 when Contreras got out of Cuba. -

I cannot wait until he tests positive or is tied to steroids somehow, just to bump threads like this where people are willfully ignoring the fact that we all know he's on something. -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) I think the players believe they are professionals and do not need much in the way of motivation or coaching. I think it also reflects how baseball is such a business today. And just like most other people in the work force, they would rather not work for someone who is erratic and demeaning. I have worked independently for so long, and pretty much a self starter, I do not need someone yelling at me to do a better job, swearing at me, or any of that stuff. Perhaps others do. I can work hard on my own. I can also see how some players would respond better to different circumstances. Some need quiet, confidence inspiring leadership and some need a kick in the ass. I think your circumstances are a little different than a major leaguer. It is a team sport, and a manager is necessary for a team. When a player starts his own team and plays single-handedly against an entire team, then your point might make sense. But until then, a team of players needs a person at the helm to coordinate everything, and these players decided they wouldn't like to play for some of the most proven, winningest managers in the game.

I really can't emphasize how much WCW sucked. -
QUOTE (The Bones @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 01:30 AM) Good to know that my signature inspired something positive...haha. I can't say enough good things about that movie. The performances, the pace, the scenery, the music, everything is just perfect. As for the 10 nominees next year, I'm still undecided about that. Could be good, could be bad, but it will probably be meaningless in the end. On average, I'd say the Academy usually picks 3 worthy nominees and a couple of...well let's just say uninspired choices. There will still be the favorites and I doubt this will have any affect on what movie wins. Although, maybe now that people know there are 10 they will vote for things they wouldn't before because they didn't think they had a chance. Ultimately, it seems to be just a ploy to get more people to watch the Oscars. I'm guessing it'll be the same kind of movies as usual just 5 more of them. I'm sure it won't. I just hate the idea of some completely undeserving film having "Nominated for Best Picture" in their commercials to try to sway people to see it. The s***ty part is that it will actually get more people to waste their money on movies that don't deserve the attention they will get.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) My mom makes a concord grape pie that is out of this world. A good homemade banana cream pie is also very good, especially when warm, pretty much right out of the oven. I've never heard of a grape pie.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:20 PM) All this talk about pie has me thinking about one of the best tv series of all time What show is that? In my opinion, the best pie (although its name says it's not actually a pie) is cheesecake. I mean, everything about it seems like a pie, except its name.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) Encouraging for sure. Obviously Danks hasn't gotten great run support. Story of his life.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) That AB would have killed the Hawk if it was against the Sox... Kung Fu Panda dropped a catachable foul ball then on 2-2 there was an extremely close pitch (ESPN's gimmick said it was a strike) that was called a ball. Who?

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 05:25 AM) Having lived through the rotating 5th starter years, I see a spot for him. You need to be 6 deep, if possible, and a couple of those will be veterans. A few years back we kept bringing guys up to pitch 3 innings and give up 10 runs. Man, those were just brutal outings. No offense, but who hasn't? It was only a few years ago.

QUOTE (dbaho @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 11:58 PM) Ever since Ramon Castro has become his personal catcher also, he's pitched very well. The Castro trade could turn out to be one of KW's most underrated trades when it's all said and done. At the end of the season, I think you look at giving him a 1 year deal if the price is right and you think he can hold up for another season, but with the payroll flexibility that KW is going to have, I think he'll look for an upgrade first. I'm not sure there are any upgrades out there. I think we should definitely sign him for another year, depending on how he finishes out this year. If there is a sure upgrade out there, we should go for it. And if not, we should sign Castro even if he asks for a little too much. We should have the money either way. And with Contreras, I'll trust the organization to make the right move. There doesn't seem to be too much pitching talent out there in free agency (and the top guys always sign somewhere else for bigger money). So, if they feel that Contreras has another decent year in him and the prospects aren't exactly ready, then they should give him a one-year deal. This, of course, also depends on how he finishes out the year.

As much as I like to hate everything Hawk says, I believe he was spot on yesterday. He was talking about this poll and saying that it says a lot about the players today, basically how they're p*****s and care more about personal stats than winning. EDIT: Censored myself before someone else has to do it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) Its bad, but anymore because of the complete lack of control and accountability in MLB, I just assume all of these top guys are guilty until proven innocent, Pujols included. Agreed. -
They're making it 10 categories now? That's stupid. I would prefer a movie or two to get snubbed each year than to have a few completely undeserving movies get nominated each time. Also, RIP Karl Malden. I think he deserves some attention amidst all of the crying for a scumbag pedophile.
-
Holy crap, whoever said Karl Malden was right. He died at some point yesterday. A great actor, RIP.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 08:53 PM) I love our lineup against LHP. People don't realize is demolishing lefties this season, batting over .400 against them. Who is?

Defecting from Cuba doesn't seem as hard as it once was. -

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 06:09 PM) The testing is strong enough that anyone juicing will be caught. There is off-season testing as well. If he's not on the list from 2003, we'll likely never know what he did in years past. But he's clean now, and he's a freak so he obviously doesn't need any serious PEDs. Steroids are ahead of the game when it comes to testing. Players can be on a drug that the testers don't even know about yet, plus there's HGH. They don't even test for that. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) You ever see the week he was the guest host on Jimmy Kimmel? No, I hardly ever watch the late night shows, especially in the last 6 or 7 years.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) They don't test for HGH yet, and there are other substances as well. I truly hope he's clean, but he came into the game at a time when the PED's were so rampant, so he had to be exposed to it constantly. Wouldn't be surprised if Edmonds and other former teammates show upon that 2004 list. Of course, this is all speculation, not accusation. Sadly, its a fine line in the present environment. Albert is probably the most consistent hitter I've ever seen. He has the shortest "slumps", if you can even ever call them that. NO WAY! -
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) Maybe it was the music, but the last trailer didn't entertain me too much. Hmm, only 60% at RT. I'm not sure where the hype is coming from, to be honest. I want to see it, but three people I know saw it at midnight. I don't want to see it that badly. It looks good, but it certainly doesn't look like it's that great.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) I'm sure that with the hearing aid, you can hear just as well as most people, I get your point, but hearing IS a huge part of driving. I have a bad habit of driving with the music on full blast and have almost been nailed by cops, ambulances or fire trucks numerous times cuz I didn't see or hear them coming. Bikers keep their bikes loud because drivers don't always see them in their blind spots, this way, they at least hear the rumble and look around. I've seen the studies he mentioned. They are statistically better drivers.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) Either tattoo "I was the original Galifianakis fan" on your head or get over it. I'd never seen him in anything before The Hangover, and don't think he's the funniest person on the planet, but I am excited for him in this show. You can either get upset about it or embrace it because it means there will be a lot more of him around. Don't take it personally, jeez.
