  1. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) Says more about the quality of films that came out in 2008. Nothing really stood out, and because Slumdog Millionaire was the low budget film in India that no-one expected to do as good as it's done, that's why it's done so well in all of the awards. I think it's official. We have our default bulls*** excuse that everyone will throw out. Tell me which of the movies that were nominated you saw. Did you see The Dark Knight or The Wrestler (both of which I'd say were better)?
  2. QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:49 PM) says more about the quality of movies this year than anything else I'm not going to keep making the point that there were better movies this year, and they were snubbed.
  3. I just did the research. Only 7 movies have won more Oscars than Slumdog Millionaire. Think about that.
  4. Eight Oscars for a pretty good movie.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:39 PM) I'm not an expert at all, but would I be out of line to say Sean Penn only beat Mickey Rourke because he played a gay character and a political statement wanted to be made? It wouldn't be the first time the Academy felt it needed to make a political statement. You are very in line.
  6. QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) /wishing he could Perfect Plex this waste of time away. I want to take Penn's award and smash it up with a hammer. /obscure wrestling reference
  7. I think Penn let it slip at the end that even he thinks Rourke should've won.
  8. Sean Penn just gave me one more reason to believe that he was given this Oscar because the character he played was gay, talking about the protesters outside.
  9. f*** this. This whole ceremony sucked.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:29 PM) CHRIS JERICHO JUST JUMPED MICKEY ROURKE!!!! MY GAWD IN HEAVEN! Hahaha.
  11. Sophia Loren looks like the f***ing crypt keeper. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:21 PM) I'm not debating if Hathaway was good in it, I just have never pictured her as being able to pull something like that off. Just joking around.
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:18 PM) Anyone see "Rachel Getting Married"? I have a penis...so, no.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) It's funny to see Penn there. Doesn't he usually boycott the Oscars, thinking it isn't a competition? I have no idea. Also, someone earlier said they read that Penn wants Rourke to win the Oscar. I googled it, and the article I found said it was the other way around.
  14. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:14 PM) Milkman it's not like it was a great year for Movies anyways. And if you came into this tonight not thinking that Slumdog was going to not win a lot of awards, well that's just pretty stupid considering all of the awards it's won at previous things (e.g the Golden Globes). Just because it wasn't a great year for movies, it doesn't mean that all of the awards should just be pawned off on one decent flick. I also figured it would win Best Picture, Director, and Screenplay, but didn't expect it to basically sweep.
  15. Winslet, Penn, and Slumdog.
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:10 PM) Danny Boyle You think? Ha...that is a surprise. I'm really glad I already saw this movie. If I were to see this ceremony before having seen the movie, I'd be led to believe it's one of the greatest movies ever made. I'd be extremely disappointed after then seeing it.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) Remember the one at The Grammy's a few years ago that ended with Little Joe. Kid Rock was on the stage all emotional. That was dumb. I never watch the Grammy's. Joe C, you mean?
  18. Oh, get ready for the tribute part. Half of the people won't clap for the vast majority, as though those people didn't matter, but will go nuts for about three actors.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 10:57 PM) The Dark Knight is the Christian of the ceremony? The Wrestler is Jeff Hardy? I like this game. Here's Tajiri. Or Funaki.
  20. Without knowing anything about these movies, and just hearing them say one of the movies is in Hebrew, I'm going to say that will win the Oscar. WRONG.
  21. Brian, Slumdog is the HHH/Cena of this ceremony. I'm just going to call it now. Slumdog Millionaire, the movie itself, will win both Best Actor and Best Actress.
  22. What is Slumdog Millionaire at in terms of Oscars right now? Ring up another one, as they have 2/3 of a chance at this one.
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 10:45 PM) I just noticed that Springsteen's song he made for "The Wrestler" wasn't nominated. WTF? Yeah, it's probably the biggest snub.
