  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) So why would anyone's speculation be better than someone who is paid to do it for a living and has sources throughout the game? It's an educated guess, that's all. I lived in Kansas City and followed Greinke from the very beginning, was there when he had his breakdown/social anxiety diagnosis, when he famously remarked about walking away from the game because he'd prefer to be out mowing lawns in So Cal with his headphones on. Does that mean I know more than someone who lives in Chicago or have some unique insight? Just don't see him agreeing on an extension. Garcia was a rare exception. More importantly, with the Danks situation, and even Dunn struggling again...those huge long-term contracts for pitchers just don't look so attractive. Too many teams have been burned by them. How long until the Marlins are dumping Buehrle for 50-75 cents on the dollar? You can make the argument we're finally seeing a "fair" ROI on the Peavy deal, but it hasn't been until Year 4. And we still won't have anything to show for it when he's gone. This and everything else you are saying is a far cry from a zero chance. And how can you even begin to predict that we will have nothing to show for it when he is gone?
  2. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 05:05 PM) Shaky ground? Sure, they threatened to move...but that was a loooooong time ago. They aren't going anywhere...that horse has sailed. And yes, no matter what, they are still in the third largest market in the country and there are enough 1%ers that think owning a team is tantamount to wealth. Moving the stadium...again, that horse has sailed. They had their chance with the McPier group and it didn't work. Where else would it go? Suburbs? The better option is to try to make that area better...and it's happening slowly with the Cork and Kerry and the new bar on premise taht I can't remember the name of now.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) who got knocked out, me or chisox? it seems to me he snapped and will prolly be headed to the penalty box. It would be interesting to see if the site owner would ban himself. I will file this under "greg775 predictions" behind: Ozzie will win lots of world series Ozzie will win NL manager of the year in 2012 Ozzie will get a manager job as soon as he is fired from the Marlins.
  4. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 03:18 PM) Classic-rock-star matchup between Floyd and Hendriks? Winner
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 02:08 PM) Greg...I don't make personal attacks, but you are the stupidest person in the history of the internet. I can't even fathom this and its posts like this that really prove the fact that you are either (a) that stupid or (b) the biggest troll in the history of Soxtalk. *open mouth dumbfounded stare*
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 01:55 PM) Even for only 3 months? Wouldn't that then give you an excuse to fire KW, for losing both Hudson and Viciedo for rentals? Then what? Bring back Carlos Quentin at $12 million for one season, and give up better prospects to get him back? Once again, there's ZERO CHANCE IN HADES Greinke will commit to a long-term extension and forgo free agency. That ship isn't going to sail. With Ozzie as manager, that might have been one of his only positive influences, getting Freddy Garcia to agree to stay longer term after the 2004 trade. How do you know that? Just because he doesnt want to extend with a team like the Brewers who arent in a position to contend for a few seasons doesnt mean he wont extend elsewhere. Greinke isnt really the free agency diva
  7. I dont even think Johnson is the first callup for Konerko. I think Jackson is
  8. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 11:41 AM) Its certainly worth a shot in a write off year, if he comes back effective then its an upgrade...kinda like the sox getting Youk. A lot of people want the MLE used on a PG but they can just hold onto CJ and Lucus or use 29 on a PG. You mean Tyreke Evans right?? semi kidding. Should be fully kidding. Tyreke isnt the next MVP or better than Rose
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 11:36 AM) How many backup 2b's do you need? at the same time, we already have 3 players that can play 1st, why do we need another? Im not really comfortable platooning Johnson at 3rd and maybe the outfield
  10. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 11:23 AM) @ttwentyman Unbelievable. Lions CB Aaron Berry reportedly arrested for DUI this weekend. They are giving the Portland Jailblazers a run for their money
  11. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) I really really hope that whole "Yooouuuuk" thing stays in Boston. doubtful
  12. I dont like Jesse Ventura!
  13. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 08:02 AM) How is that...how can...really? his last 3 seasons at the major league level have been .236/.349/.768 .198/.343/.757 .119/.187/.389 And this is skipping his equally miserable 2008 where he only got 11 at bats. Definition of a AAAA player. Im sticking with Dayan
  14. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 07:51 AM) I love Viciedo, and I'm very excited about what he might become. However, if the Sox are really trying to make it to the Post Season this year, why isn't Dan Johnson a better fit for this team, for the rest of this season? Viciedo is still very young, and still learning. He has not learned to take pitches well enough to maintain a respectable OBP. He has never put up the kinds of numbers that Johnson is putting up against RHP. Johnson has been a monster vs. righties. This team could still benefit tremendously from better balance in the lineup. Youklis adds yet another right handed bat, but Dunn has begun to revert back to his inability to do much more than hit the long ball. His strike outs are still far too high to make him the consistent left handed bat that this lineup could use. A. J. has had a great first half, but his power numbers are likely to come back to his historical level. Johnson could provide another solid left handed bat vs. righties, and he provides both power and OBP. At least for this season, Johnson would seem to be a better option in LF than Viciedo. The OBP at the bottom of the current order consisting of Viciedo, Ramirez and Beckham is just dreadful. I'd go with something like this vs. RHP: CF de Aza 3B Youklis 1B Konerko DH Dunn RF Rios LF Johnson SS Ramirez C A. J. 2B Beckham In AAA. The end.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) He was Sox closer for years. How many years do you think Reed will be the Sox closer? These guys have short lives on the mound. Look at Soria. You break down as a closer. what is your point here? Jenks fell apart. He may have been closer for "years", but he really was only successful the first 2 years. the last 2 he was a ticking time bomb. What do Soria and Reed have to do with it? Soria was closer for "years" too
  16. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 09:58 PM) Why did we trade Sergio Santos? That guy was getting fools out left and right last year pretty much all year long. Santos faded hardcore. He started out on fire, then started getting hit around. And he is injured. So there is that
  17. QUOTE (Carter224 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) It was good seeing Psycho Sid tonight, he used to be my favorite back in the day.. I dont understand why they took Laurinitis off the show, I thought he was great. Makes no sense to me. And man, that TNA crap is awful. How did your brothers tryout go?
  18. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 11:54 AM) Yep. TNA has everything in place to make a run at Vince - Daddy's money, a cable network that still seems happy with them, and enough talent to fill a show. What they DON'T have is a game plan. They bring in useless crap-sacks like Hogan and Bischoff and place way too much trust in them. They need to completely revamp their front office and bring in some decent wrestling minds if they ever really expect to challenge Vince. I'd have given Heyman complete control of the book. I don't think he's a "genius", but I do think he knows the business and knows how to help bring the best out of talent. Truth be told, though, I don't think anyone will ever knock Vince off, just because of brand recognition - you think wrestling [or "sports entertainment"] and you think WWE. Sometimes I wonder if TNA simply wants to be a quiet #2 so Vince doesn't wake up and try to crush them. I don't expect anyone to knock Vince off, just make him work a little bit. That's all.
  19. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 05:13 PM) Stupid Cubs bringing up Rizzo probably just to kill what little media attention the Sox have received by trading for Youk. How very Cub-like of them :/ Yeah it probably has nothing to do with the fact that they have been talking about bringing him up for over a month, and just wanted to wait to make sure that extra year of control.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 04:17 PM) Sorry for the typos in my previous post banned
  21. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 04:09 PM) Link: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2512908.story Always had a feeling he was a juicer. Just a sad thing to see to a nice guy struggling with the end up his career. This same guy has had a working relationship with Victor Conte all the way through this season. I dont care how nice he is, he has been getting his "supplements" from Balco ground zero. It was only a matter of time
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) And this is why the Bulls will never, ever win a championship. except for the 6 they already won LOL and before you get uber defensive, I know what you mean. You just typed it funny
  23. Thats nice but this doesnt belong here. Off to Diamond club
  24. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) I miss the Metrodome and Hawk's constant blaming the stadium for the Sox playing poorly against the Twins. He never really blamed it. He just knew as soon as the Sox stepped foot in the building, they would lose. And he was right 95 percent of the time.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 02:04 PM) Rizzo is being made out to be the second coming. Every scouting report I read about the guy said he has a chance to be Adam LaRoche. Not a bad player, but not a top breaking news story that he's being called up. Thats because he has been the top prospect for both the cubs and red sox
