  1. Hammerhead johnson in the "Gammons says Thomas to A's going to happen", regarding the possibilities of Frank Thomas healing his foot and playing next year. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:55 AM) Are you 6'5 and approaching 300 pounds? It's reassuring if you're a major fatass or something along those lines. No offense if you are indeed a major fatass.
  2. Actually I kind of dont understand why Walker did this, to tell you the truth. Rosenhaus was fighting to get Walker a payraise, and they finally recanted and came back to camp, and Walker blows out his knee in the first game. Walker is never going to see the same dollar amount that he would have if Green Bay would have negotiated a contract or traded him.
  3. Interesting trade, I thought that the Padres really liked Burroughs

  5. http://uk.news.yahoo.com//dotmusic_news/20698.html Kurt Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, has won the opening stages of her battle to control the music of her husband's band Nirvana. A judge granted Love an injunction against the release of a song recorded by Cobain with the Seattle grunge outfit before his death in 1994. Love and the two remaining members of Nirvana - drummer Dave Grohl, now with Foo Fighters and bassist Krist Novoselic - are in court fighting for control of the studio recording of the song and a 45-track box set, which was planned to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Nirvana's 'Nevermind' album. Warren Rheaume, the attorney for Grohl and Novoselic said: "The fight is over control of Nirvana." Love meanwhile, argues that the song 'You Know You're Right' is not necessary for the success of the box set, which is due to be released on October 23. Recorded in January 1994, the song is regarded by fans as one of Nirvana's unreleased gems. Those who have heard it say that it could be a big hit. A 45-second bootleg of the song can be heard on the band's website. According to the BBC News website, all sides involved in the dispute agree that 'You Know You're Right' - which begins "I don't need to love again/I won't sigh and mope again/I don't need to love again" - would be a fitting final chapter to Nirvana's legacy. Love's attorney O Yale Lewis said of the track "It's a spectacular piece of music," hailing it as "Probably one of the most important pieces of music to be released in years." A trial to resolve the issue has been scheduled for 31 December 2002. The song is part of a contractual battle over Nirvana's music. Love, actress and frontwoman with rock band Hole, Grohl and Novoselic formed a partnership three years after Cobain died. But in court filings Love has said that she was "emotionally overwrought and distraught" when she signed the agreement which splits the proceeds from the band's assets equally three ways. Love's case meanwhile, downplays the contribution to Nirvana by Grohl and Novoselic.
  6. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:07 AM) they have no rights to any of the songs? i'm sure they wrote some melodies or something, sounds really unfair. It got pretty ugly http://www.nyrock.com/worldbeat/12_2001/121301.asp Trying to find the follow-up article, Im fairly sure Courtney Love maintained full rights to the music. In fact, I am positive, since she is selling the catalog.
  7. QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) Not me. I've had to deal with that over-rated crap band all my life. I can't stand the Doors. At all. Not one song. See, different generations will come up with different answers. I dont think anyone will completely agree on this poll.
  8. Oh my God, where is all of the Metallica, Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, Creed? I would argue that singles from the above mentioned bands have been played MORE in todays present media markets than the top 5 songs this guy has listed. I know for a fact that I heard the atrocious song "Rollin" by limp bizkit at least 25% more times than I have heard "Light my Fire".
  9. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) I dislike Courtney Love very much, but I don't blame her for selling the catalog. she needs her smack, i think we can all understand that. LOL. We all know the monthly bills that come with non-perscribed Vicodin and Oxycontin. Its just really a shame that Kris and Dave cannot own music that they made, thats just s***ty. And I know that they tried to work something out with her, then tried to go to court, and still nothing. Now if they want to get the rights to their own music, they have to buy it from Martha friggin Stewart. Its like McCartney buying the Beatles stuff back from Michael Jackson.
  10. I love the big man, but it is plain to me that his injury is never going to be right again. Thomas just puts so much pressure and torque on his front foot when he is swinging, I dont think that his navicular bone would be able to withstand a 162 game schedule. And he fractured the bone twice, and it has a screw in it. I dont see Thomas having a complete season next year at all, which is unfortunate. I dont want to see the Big Hurt fail, but I dont see how he will be able to compete.
  11. Courtney Love is the very definition of a whore, the lady has sold everything close to her that is worth money. Kris and Dave deserved this catalog, they were just as important to Nirvana as Kurt. What a b****.
  12. I wonder if Francis is going to try and get back at Nocioni like he promised last time they played.
  13. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 08:52 AM) LOL If their offensive line doesn't play the game of their lives they're gonna have to carry off Big Ben.........one piece at a time. I dont know, this offensive line is one year removed from being considered the best in the league. I have faith in the Bears defense, no doubt, but I know that this is gonna be a bigtime test. Ben R's worth is going to be tested though. The ground game for the Steelers has been pretty much non-existent for the last 7-8 games, and the Bears are going to have to keep this trend alive for success. If the Bears can force Roethlisburger to throw alot, I think they are going to win, if the Steelers get off on the running game, the Bears could be in big trouble.
  14. Bobby Valentine, you can start talking s*** when you arent run out of the bigs and forced to take a job with another league. What an incredible amount of disrespect for the accomplishments of another team. He basically said "We have the same stuff and we did it better." The only way the White Sox could have done it better last year is if they would have gone 11-0. Valentine can go back to wearing bad disguises again, what a douche.
  15. Off the subject slightly, I just bought "Tales of Symphonia" for Gamecube. *joygasm!* Now back to your regularly scheduled conversing.....
  16. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) I have a feeling that this thing is going to be buried by the XBOX 360 and PS3... Thats what they said about Gamecube, and that system did just fine. Nintendo still has a bigtime grip on the market in Japan, the US is sort of an afterthought. There will be plenty of people like me that are waiting for what Nintendo has to offer next. I hope they come out with a Pikmin sequel when they launch the next console.
  17. That article looks like a smokescreen from Nintendo. They never like to release any info or specs on their systems before they are due to come out. I cannot imagine that Nintendo would put so much effort forth to create a new console only to give us a "souped up X-Box" and a new controller to play with.
  18. When called at his home to discuss Walker leaving his agency, Rosenhaus replied : "No Comment"
  19. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) ^^^ Haven't watched the trailer yet, but I saw an article in USA Today about it. I guess this is probably the last X-Men movie, but they're going to continue with a Wolverine spin-off w/ Jackman. That should be cool. Oh I sincerely doubt that. Those movies have endless storylines and profit streams. Marvel will keep churning them out as long as they want. This will probably be the last X men with the current core cast though.
  20. Grammar looks AWESOME as beast. they did a real good job.
  21. http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_3279184 I really dont know what Billy Beane is doing now. It seems like every year he does stranger and stranger things, and last year his core group was broken up, and they didnt make the playoffs. Now he brings in a guy who A) cant stay healthy, and B) is a deranged psychopath. I just dont get it.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) Anyone else not hold much stock in fans who were "brought back"..? I dont. But I wont discount the interest that was brought to the game in that homerun race, it definitely created a "must-see" sort of atmosphere for the last two months of the season, which is pretty important for baseball in the end of the season. However, I also cannot discount that the same fans that could have been drawn in by the homerun race could have been turned away by the headlines caused by steroids. Like the old saying goes, "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."
  23. This is just laughable to me. How can this be? Nomar tore his groin muscle, off the bone, merely running out of the batters box next year. He never played OF in the majors(that I know of), and now the Indians want to stick him in probably the toughest of the three outfield positions? Thats ludicrous. I would think they would be better off with their rotation of Casey Blake and Ben Broussard in right field over Nomar in right field. But what do i know.
  24. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 10:49 PM) Cool site, but I don't like the songs they suggest unfortunately. Some were good for me, some were bad. I set a playlist up for my wife based on The Killers, and the first song that was played after the Killers was New Order, "60 miles and hour". Now I love New Order, and I really like their newer stuff, but my wife didnt see a connection, and didnt really like the choice. It is definitely interesting though. I think it helps alot if you tell the "radio" which songs you like and which you didnt, so they can make a better database.
  25. Way to get off on the right foot with prospective students. What a moron.
