  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 04:01 PM) We have to accept the fact he's one of the better hitters in the game of baseball. Everytime i read this i wonder why i have to accept it, as if i am denying it or it makes me dislike Abreu for it
  2. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) Look at the ERA. There is a difference of 2 runs per game for guys on the same pitching staff. Pomeranz was having a good year and was on a good stretch when he was traded. The ERA that was 3.06 before his 10 run outing? I see it. Hell, he was even striking people out prior to that outing too
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 08:49 AM) Now I should point out, that is what "they" the Rams obviously must think. Not what Chisoxfn thinks. That said, in general, I am a big believer of surrounding a young player with stability, which is why if I'm drafting a QB #1 overall, I'm making sure whomever I have as his coach / OC are going to be there for a few years. You can't just cut the cord immediately. Heck, Tampa Bay went so far as to fire their HC to ensure their OC wouldn't get away from Winston (because they valued that consistency so much). I am not meaning that to say I am poking fun at you. I have no idea wtf the Rams are doing or thinking. Offense has NEVER been Fishers forte'
  4. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 07:25 AM) Pomeranz was 8-7 w a 2.47 ERA. He won his last 4 starts before trade deadline. Shields was 2-7 w a 4.28 ERA and lost his last 3 starts. That is a huge difference in my opinion but I guess you and Hahn both felt differently. More importantly Shields's fastball had lost velocity which was the main reason Boston backed away. So should the White Sox. You keep using losses as your reasoning, so I guess I do feel differently. Boston backed away from one injured guy and moved right on to another, and you are acting like they are smart for it because WINS Shields has been god awful, there is no way around that. but at the time of the trade he had 1 bad start the entire season, the 10 run crap start before he was traded. Look at his game logs http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...p&year=2016 Mostly QS until the last start
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 05:28 PM) They had been talking all of training camp that an extension was in the works. I presume they weren't going to let one game ruin whatever they had already decided. They obviously view stability as key for the young QB and think Fisher is the right guy there. I agree that you need to have a lot of stability so a young QB comes up in one system and is able to really get ingrained in one offense, but man, Fisher has kind of proven he is what he is. Yea, he has shown that he can provide stability for #1 overall QB picks lol.
  6. Guardians of the Galaxy has a fantastic soundtrack That is a really bizarre stance. You can't create one continuous soundtrack for all of the marvel characters because they are all different. Star Wars is one complete story and the same characters. The song represents their storyline.
  7. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 07:04 PM) Actually there is a big difference. Before they were traded, Pomeranz had won his last 4 starts. So visually there was no sign of injury. But Shields was struggling before his trade having lost 3 straight with the last loss the 10 run-2 inning outing. Actually there isn't much of a difference. Before the ten run game, he gave up 2, 3, and 0 runs. So let's stop acting like prior to the one ten run outing there were tons of red flags, Shields was actually pretty decent. Both Sox seem to have gotten swindled by Preller
  8. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 02:50 PM) Just a reminder that Boston was hot for Shields before the deadline. But Boston press said Red Sox decided against it after seeing his overall drop in velocity on his fastball by I think 2 -3 Mph. It was also noted at the time he was giving up a lot of fly balls and Boston felt he would not be effective in Fenway. So I think if Boston saw he was struggling and passed on him, we don't have much to complain about. This is kind of funny when Boston actually got swindled with Pomeranz. So I guess they aren't all that much smarter
  9. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) Very interesting. Wonder what, if any, remedies will exist for the Sox (or any other team similarly adversely impacted)? I doubt any team on the short end gets a remedy.
  10. Jose, as of right now, is hitting .300 with 24 HR and 95 RBI. There is an outside chance that he gets .300 30 HR 100 RBI again. Considering where he was at the all star break, thats just crazy

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) Did anyone go to Riot Fest last year? Is it a mess to park around there during this? Didnt they move Riotfest so that this problem would be reduced?
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) People forget that 24 teams passed on Mike Trout but they never forget that Paul Konerko was once beaned in the face
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) That isn't what he said at all. QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) Who was the last elite closer to be taken in the top 3-5 picks? Go ahead, I'll wait.
  14. Twins are transitioning Jay to a starter, and has never been considered an MLB elite closer
  15. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) Huh? How is a guy with a .306/.371/.537 slash with 27 HRs, 82 RBIs, a 3.2 fWAR and 4.4 bWAR a "sort of not bad outfielder". He also has played in at least 135 games per season every year of his career other than the year he was suspended with an average of 148 games per year. He has not been on the DL since 2014. For his production he is also not that highly paid with an average of $19M over the next four years ($15M option with $4M buyout in 2021). Again, im not doubting his ability to hit, the crack about "sort of bad outfielder" is a defense only comment. I just think the guy from this point forward would probably fit better in the AL where he can just DH. Chavez Ravine is huge, and Braun is not a good OF, he never has been, and he isnt getting younger
  16. all i can say is Netflix is killing it. I love their selection, and it just keeps getting better
  17. QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 06:26 PM) Disagree. I think Braun would look great in LA next year. Ethier and Reddick will be gone. Braun can still rake, and he is very serviceable in LF. They can afford him. Look at his stats for this year. He hits, period. I never said anything about him being unable to hit. How many games did he play last year? How many games is he probably gonna play this season? (Hint: not enough, either season) He is always injured. He needs to be a DH. I think open free agency will net both the Dodgers and Brewers a better get than a straight swap
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 06:00 PM) The rumor still is that Braun and Puig will be flipped in the offseason. Came within 20 minutes of it happening this time around. Doesn't really make sense for the Dodgers. They don't need another highly paid often injured sort of not bad outfielder
  19. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 04:56 PM) How about we get back to discussing baseball? Sounds good to anyone else? I love seeing when there's new posts but hate when I have to shuffle through posters just bantering with one another back and forth that they are right and the other is wrong (although the banter may have started on the topic, recently none of it has been ending there, just saying). Agreed. Sorry I continued it after I asked that it would be stopped
  20. That was the rumor when the Brewers made the claim. I think it is moot now that the Dodgers pulled him back after the claim was made
  21. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) Well, what about that Marty guy? Whatever happened to him? Where'd he go? Here one minute all over the place, then POOF - gone! Completely out of sight! You got him chained up somewhere down in the Soxtalk dungeon? If so, release the prisoner, immediately!! Marty was suspended for a few months and then the suspension was lifted. He was allowed to come back but chose not to and asked us to delete his account. Got anything else for me thad?
  22. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 04:16 PM) As I noted in the warning thread previously stickied, baiting is allowed but personal attacks are not. So you have certain admins baiting people left and right they don't agree with to try to get them banned. Please give a list of those banned in this practice
  23. They should trade him for good prospects because the last three seasons were all flukes
