Cleveland outdrew us? Attendance down 13% so far
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2016 -> 11:05 PM) Maybe I'm the only one, but I always thought it was cool to go to games that were being live broadcast nationally. When I was in university, I was always super-excited when ESPN or ABC would carry the Iowa games. Of course, nowadays having the game on tv is just an excuse NOT to attend, but back in the 80's/early 90's it was still a bigger event. I even remember one time getting locked out of Carver Hawkeye Arena in 1989 and Dick Vitale was also stuck....so we had a nice conversation for five minutes or so. I think they were playing Michigan, which was a huge game (not sure if that's the year they won it all on the Rumeal Robinson free throws)...and I was "tutoring" Roy Marble, so I always got to sit behind the bench. Dick Vitale WAS college basketball back then. Now, I guess the cable and pay and satellite tv universe is so diluted, having a game on ESPN doesn't matter to anyone but Brooks Boyer and the marketing department... Oh yea, sitting outside in 40 degree weather because it is a nationally televised game is totally the same as going to see a nationally televised basketball game

Early Trade Speculation
Just so we all know, Kimbrel had 39 saves and a 2.58 era. Kemp hit 23 homers and drove in 100 runs. Both of these guys played on a team that won 74 games Nelson Cruz hit 44 home runs and drove in 93 runs. Robinson Cano hit .287, 21 homers and drove in 79. But yea, they stink. Stay away. Heroes

Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 4, 2016 -> 06:20 PM) Look at the Mariners. Prior GM adds Cano and Cruz and do nothing. New GM works around the edges, fixes the defense and pen, and they're good again. San Diego last year acquired all sorts of downside veterans, cleaning out the farm in the process. Board favs like Kimbrall, Kemp...can't go wrong. Well, they stunk. Boston added Panda and Ramirez and they blew. Sat one, put the other at first, and used young players, and they contend again. They added Price, and he's stunk. The Sox this year...the big differences are Lawrie and Jackson - fixing the defense and adding some incremental offensive improvement. And yet the lust to trade everything for the "star" goes on unabated. How myopic, have you looked at Kemp, Cruz, Kimbrels, Canos numbers? Has it occurred to you maybe that the team around them, the crappy players they surrounded these players with underperformed, rather than the heroes themselves? Not gonna argue panda and HanRam because those were very much panned deals when they happened and they turned out exactly how people thought, but then again the Red Sox signed these players they didn't trade for them Keep banging that drum Greensox. One day it will make a sound

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 4, 2016 -> 04:17 PM) I never read the books and barely understand what is happening most of the time. But why did Arya choose to become a faceless person or whatever she is becoming? She wants to avenge her family and saw how awesome Jaqen was when he saved her life and wore other faces to pull it off.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 4, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) Woah woah woah. Talking about Hawk is one of my favorite things to do. I find it very interesting. I just find it awful people hate on him. I'll talk about him all day however. Not really sure what comparison you're going for. The comparison that you are complaining that people are calling your thread awful, when you did the exact same thing

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 4, 2016 -> 01:14 PM) I am on my plan period at work and I usually have 670 on the radio. There is a Cubs game on today so I flipped over to Kaplan's show. Their topic today is : If you are a Cubs fan and were promised to go to the World Series but you'd lose to the White Sox, would you take that deal? Is this show always s*** like this? It's just dopes calling in saying they'd rather not go to the world series then. Everyone keeps referencing how the teams are rivals. Yikes. Every chance he gets, Kaplan does a "If you could......Would you....?" Usually on Sportstalk live, it is ridiculous embarrassing trades and the rest of the panel destroy him for it

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 4, 2016 -> 12:55 PM) And again and again. Theres more batching about talking about attendance than actual b****ing about the attendance at this point. If you don't find the topic interesting, cool. Not sure why you post. I think you care, it's just a weird sensitive issue for Sox fans. Why, I don't know. I admittedly want better attendance for selfish reasons. The park is a lot more fun when it's filled, and I go to tons of games. Now this is a funny thing for you to say http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=3338732

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
I just want to add that Abreu had no business hitting that ball for a double to drive in Rollins and Eaton. That ball was WAY inside and he turned his whole body

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2016 -> 10:15 AM) The 8th inning, the guy was walking people. The Sox hitters weren't swinging at everything. That slows things up. Plus the replays and the pitching changes. It turns into a long night. The knucker was working pretty quickly considering how many pitches he threw. IIRC the Red Sox(and the Yankees) consistently have some of the longest game times year in year out. Its annoying, it isnt just last night

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) Question - was the announcing teams commenting on the brutal pace of that 8th inning? Two replays + just unbearable pace from their pitchers + 44 pitches total. We thought we'd be out of there at 930, but that was a 40 minute inning. Sucked the life out of the stadium even as it was bases loaded 1 out. No, but me and my buddy were texting about it. Red Sox teams just make games a slog

The Jeff Samardzija Thread
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 3, 2016 -> 10:32 PM) Bassit is a back of the rotation guy. His absence "hurts" is because we're auditioning a few guys for 5th starter likely worse than he is. (and because we went a long time with Danks and Noesi). But, not he's not great talent. This all in stuff for a "star" is generally a poor and losing approach and the net return for the Sox on those trades is atrocious (and yet the Sox keep making them). Gio was the only really good pitcher. Hudson was really good, but got hurt. The next may be Chris Deveniski (sent packing in yet another poorly conceived Williams trade). And the plus side is of the Shark trade is that we have ceiling on our side. Although the odds are slim, we could hit it big with this draft choice. Bassitt is a moot point so you can stop crying about him now

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 3, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) An article I read made it sound like they did all the other costumes in the movie, which makes it even more of a head scratcher. But I do like the look they went with. That look is f***ing terrible. Apocalypse should not look like Ivan Ooze
