Most exciting sporting event you ever attended.
kev211 replied to bigklita's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Notre Dame @ Michigan State September 23, 2006 Notre Dame down 37-21 with 10ish minutes to play. Won 40-37. It was amazing, and the MSU fans were destroying us. At the end of the game the look on their face was priceless absolute disbelief. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 01:35 AM) No, but be becomes less valuable. Because the league-average offensive output for outfielders is higher than that of second basemen. So they could pay someone less to produce in the OF, and leave Utley at 2b. I win

QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 01:29 AM) this a fantasy baseball type response. if the phillies moved utley to the OF does he become less productive? No, but he immediately becomes a lot less valuable. Stress a lot there too. Utley is one of it not the best 2B in the league. In the OF he's just another guy who is going to hit you 30-35 homers with 110-120 RBI. Basically Beckham's bat going to do the same thing at SS/2B then it's going to do at 3B. It's just a lot more valuable at 2B/SS because the Sox will have an easier time finding a 3B who can produce good offensive numbers, then a middle infielder.

Sox versus Yankees August 2, 2009 game thread

QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 10:39 PM) Why are there so many damn tickets left? According to ticket rep, 8K tickets still remain. For Buehrle's first home game after perfect game, that's embarrassingly sad. The Sox are a team that's always depended on walk up. So there is your answer. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the 8k is bought before the game today. -
Yeah the thing that pisses me off most about ESPN is the NFL live gets to air every night at 11:30 for a half hour. Wtf? I can deal with the day time airing, but there is no need for a half hour of NFL stuff in night time coverage when it's not Football season. Baseball tonight only airs during baseball season. Anyway I watch it because its the only 24/7 Sports Channel that covers everything, but am not a big fan of it. Baseball tonight is decent because of Tim Kurkjian and Buster Olney and sometimes Peter Gammons when he isn't in love with the Red Sox. I love the MLB Network though and watch that a lot.

Everytime they showed the dugout I went on a find peavy mission. It was awesome seeing him in it.

QUOTE (3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) He is texting/making jokes with Harold Reynolds and MLB Network crew. That should tell you how busy he is... Wait he seriously was? How could he find time for that if the deal was as last minute as everyone says it was.

Manny and Big Papi tested positive for steroids in 03
kev211 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 08:46 AM) And to those who are begging to have the whole list released... it'll never happen, at least not officially. The LAST thing baseball management wants to do is piss of the MLBPA by throwing their players under the bus. I don't think it would be MLB releasing it. It would be the government. -

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:38 AM) A tree could have told you that Ortiz was cheating. I felt badly when the Yanks lost to the SawRx in 2004. Not only did it spawn terrible unspeakable s*** such as Fever Pitch, but it also offered all a glimpse as to what will happen when miserable, miserable cutesy loser franchises finally chance upon a World Championship. You will never hear the end of it. I hate that this has happened to baseball, but I'm also glad that Jimmy Fallon's movie can be further questioned and disregarded. The PED SawRx were a slightly more successful, less bumblef*** version of the Cubs until 2004. A pill here and there, two buddies jabbing each other in the ass with needles, and all of a sudden you have the most nauseating World Series Champions in forever. You couldn't hide in an Afghani cave from it. The only thing magical about the PED SawRx winning in 2004 and 2007 is that everyone chose to ignore the fact that Papi's head was comparable to a small hot air balloon, and that human beings were able to develop artificial means of achieving endurance and strength. Both are remarkable. On a side note, IIRC, and if I'm wrong correct me, wasn't Damon's name also associated with PED's at one point? I could have sworn that there was at least the briefest mention somewhere along the line. I've never read, but anticipate Curt Schilling's thoughts on all this craziness and tomfoolery in his blog. I'm literally putting down a Dostojevsky novel right now in anticipation. It's a shame for MLB. A full blown enema of the 104 who tested positive would suit the league far better than this steady drip drip that keeps you up all night. Sooner or later (with 'later' being a bad, bad thing for MLB) these names are going to surface. Just an FYI. Fever Pitch was coming out weather they won, or lost the series. But the ending was rewritten after they did. Arroyo thing is also BS. He's just trying to save face for when the list does come out. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) If Beckham is really starting to get it defensively, there may be no need to move him back to ss. If we don't trade Lexi, that could be a good ss/3b combo for a while. It worked out for ARod. Short is a lot tougher to play. I don't care if it is Gordon's "natural position." Yes but its much easier to find a 3B that can give you .300 with 25 homers, then it is a SS or 2B. His bat is so much more valuable at short or 2nd. Basically at 3rd he is just a good player, at SS/2B he is one of the best players in the league.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:31 PM) http://score670.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=128&t=35430 I have no credible links to any official release, and harbor doubts as to the validity of this tidbit. I don't subscribe to Bobby Wade's twitter (or any twitter for that matter) but I guess there is a rumor going around (stemming from an alleged Wade tweet or blog post) that the Twins want to utilize the Dome for select discounted "Throwback" series in 2010 and perhaps beyond. I can't see this as being legit, especially given the timing (Sox recent s***show and subsequent b****ing about the Dome). With a new ballpark opening next year, wouldn't you want to milk that sucka till the last drop in it's inaugural season? Only way I can see the Twins in the Dome next year is if the new park isn't quite good to go in the first few (cold) weeks of the season. To use it throughout the summer? Can't see it. It's a great idea. There will be 78 games at the new park, and the 3 games at the dome will probably get high attendance just due to the novelty of the idea. Of course all 3 games will be vs the white sox no doubt.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) Just a heads up, the video quality isn't that good for the online version. And kudos for having an open mind about it. I watched half of it last night. It's pretty powerful, and terrifying at the same time. I turned away a couple of time because I didn't want to see what they were showing. But I've had beef, and chicken since watching it so it didn't sway me that much. I'll watch the 2nd half when I get around to it.

#8 was the best. But the whole thing just reinforced the fact that I like Conan a lot better. Video: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/media/vide...tent_id=5781065

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) Mauer for Fields and Flowers? What? Well Fields would then become a rental to twins because of the changing of ballparks next year. So they might want someone else Bartolo Colon could fill Slowey's spot perhaps.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) I sure as hell hope this isn't the case. So, happy i could watch five seasons, love four of them, just for them to screw around on the mainland in some alternative universe for half-a-dozen episodes. part 2 of comic con, at 4:40 addresses you concerns
