All White Basketball League to Form
The Gooch replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) I agree with our nation having issues. I remember when I graduated from high school, they had scholarships strictly for women or racial minorities. But that's not racist nor sexist. But it someone was to set up a scholarship strictly for white males, it could be called both. This idea of an all white league is beyond rediculous, but if they wanted me I'd probably play. http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=2674267&page=1 I think America has reached a point where ethnic based scholarships and affirmative action should be abolished. Well at least temporarily. If the numbers of minority employees that companies are hiring lessens by anything resembling a significant amount, then bring it back -
QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) I agree...not to mention I keep thinking...WTF could he possibly have on her that wouldn't have turned up through an extensive backround check. She works at CTU, ya don't just fill out an application. I hate unrealsitc s*** on tv, with the exception of Jack Bauer killing 20 people with his bare hands. Thats funny, I was watching it with my Dad last night, and he said the exact same thing about the background check. Hopefully it ends up making sense.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 07:59 AM) Honestly, I didn't complain about the first 2 hours, but I started to feel a bit bored through that 2nd 2 hour block. Too many long, pensive pauses involving the blonde. That story with the blonde better turn into something soon because the parts of the show with her and that guy and not know what is going on is really starting to annoy me.

QUOTE (SnB @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) when did that open? I used to work a block away from there. (as of last year) I believe they opened around 6 months ago, at least thats when I first heard about them.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) Great to see a really good guy continue to succeed.(and also a fraternity brother of mine) I hope Brees takes them all the way to the Super Bowl. You are a Sigma Chi? Me too. Where did you go to school at?

5 Guys is right around 157th and La Grange. It is in that little center with Starbucks and Potbelly right by Target. They have really good burgers as well, and their cajun fries kick butt. In N Out is only on the West Coast as far as I know, but I hear that they are the burger place to beat. I havent tried Schoops yet, but I will have to give that a try.

I live in Orland Park and with the recent opening of all the new burger places in the area, I was wondering what everyone's favorite burger joint is? Don't include real nice restaurants or bars where you have had a really good burger, just burger joints. Within the past few years we have had a Red Robin, a Fatburger, and a 5 Guys open up here. Of the the three my favorite is Fatburger slightly edging out 5 Guys. Five Guys has much better fries, but I love the fried egg on the Fatburger (along with the texture and fresh topping, and they have great shakes. I will not that I have not had the opportunity to try In'N'Out Burgers as I hear from many people that they are great. So what do ya'll think?

I think we should watch Peavy pitch a full season in the American League at US Cellular Field before we crown him king of this pitching staff. I think he is going to be a great pitcher for this team, but 3 games and an article in the Sun Times isn't quite enough to take that honor away from Mark Buerhle in my opinion.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 06:19 PM) You will be happy to know we/I use textbooks as a resource, our curriculum is independent of any one book. And I'm trying to teach by telling stories whenever possible. I wish I had more time each day. We also use a lot more independently produced videos, etc. not just "education" ones. Plus, how many history teachers would play Hendrix? At least your school seems to be starting to get it right. I feel that the only subject we covered in proper depth from high school was the Holocaust. Everything else was just the who, what, and when. I have also taken to reading non-fiction history books lately including Blood and Thunder (my favorite as well), and I have learned more about our history then I ever have in class. Understanding the past is more important to our future than most people know, and unfortunately names and dates don't cut it.

Does anyone here brew their own beer. I just got a beginners kit for Christmas. I am about to start brewing a German Light beer! I still need to get a brew pot, bottles, and caps however. Does anyone else here brew at home and know where to get the best deals on these/have any good advice for someone trying this their first time?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 06:51 PM) Remember when you had to go to the ballpark to get tickets to a game? Or wait in long lines for concert tickets

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) She's very attractive IMO. If we're just talking celebrity crushes, Olivia Munn & Katy Perry are on the top of my list. Love Katy Perry http://trendstoday.today.com/files/2009/07...-arent-fake.jpg

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) You played fantasy sports by mail and made transactions over the phone. And you had to check the stats in the newspaper the next day

What a joke that was. I would have thought that considering most of the jury was made up of members of the other tribe that they wouldn't have been so bitter. The only two people on the jury that were backstabbed that shouldnt have expected it was Jaison and Shambo. Besides that, everyone else just got beat from a member of another tribe. I hate the seasons where someone who does nothing to deserve it wins. I don't really understand rewarding riding someones coatails in a game based on deceit and strategy.

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 09:03 PM) No Van Halen? No Jimmy Buffet? No Michael Jackson, ok that one would be fine. LOL Screw Nirvana. That is all. I know we will see Led Zep up there, but Van Halen and the Who deserve spots as well and I know at least one of them if not both arent going to make it.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) Russell is the greatest Survivor contestant of all time. Win or lose! No arguement! 2 Idols without 1 clue = Legendary. Laura was pissed too. I would have liked to see them blindside her if she didn't win the immunity. It looks like Russell might me out next week though if he doesn't win or find another idol.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread

QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) I would rather not have instant replay anymore in any sport. I agree. Officiating is always going to be questionable to bad on most occasions, apparently even with the assistance of technology. There is nothing worse then having referees watching video for minutes at a time delaying games and then still getting the call wrong. And "Beyond a reasonable doubt" obviously doesn't mean anything when overturning call anymore in any sport with instant replay. I hope MLB at least stays strong and sticks to just home run calls. I dread the day that instant replay ruins my favorite sport -
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) I don't know who Tsunami is, but Earthquake and Typhoon are a formidable duo. IRS and Dibiase are where its at!

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) If you like that history stuff on film, watch for Blood and Thunder, which is targeted for film release next year. Its basically the story of the "winning" of the west, through the lens of the life of Kit Carson. Fantastic book. And that John Adams book is also quite good. Have they pegged an actor for Carson or any of the other characters yet? I'll be interested to see who they find to play Freemont as well. This has potential to be a great movie if done right...

That may be the worst list I have ever seen. Notice how he talks about the absence of Ditka and Jackson because they just coached here, yet the put Ozzie at 15 ahead of big Frank, and his reasons for putting him on the list are entirely about him managing. Oh and did I mention the order of this list is terrible!
