  1. Anyone see Rescue Me last night? WTF?
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) Troy Renck from the Denver Post was on the radio this morning and he had a few interesting things to say I suppose. 1.) Scott Podsednik no longer profiles as a starting CF (shocking, I know). Teams weren't all that interested in him (he's been sitting at home for 2 weeks) because he's pretty much a full time LF at this point in his career. Obviously KW doesn't care...he did sign Ken Griffey Jr to play CF last year

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) Dreamworks bought the rights to film the book Blood and Thunder, by Hampton Sides, one of my favorite books and a great story for the big screen. Can't find any other info yet - no director, or producer, or anyone else attached. Casting Kit Carson should be an interesting challenge. As an older man, Robert Duvall would be a perfect Carson. The younger one, though, I'm not so sure. I was also thinking about casting Carson and I couldn't come up with a good match. I am also wondering what they will leave out from the book. There were so many interesting and important things that happened in Blood and Thunder over such a long period of time that it is probably going to be hard to cut into a 2 hour movie.

  5. QUOTE (Texsox @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 08:12 AM) The difference becomes the ages and stages. When an 18 year old votes, there is an assumption in this country that only qualified candidates are allowed on the ballot. What is the down sides to them making a mistake and voting for the "wrong candidate"? But if you think they should have to wait until 21, I would be interested in learning why. If you also believe that military service should begin at 21, I guess I would be interested in hearing why. It seems that most 18 year olds have the capacity to serve, and serve well in the roles they are given. Most 16 year olds know right from wrong and the consequences of their actions. When they commit a crime, they should receive an appropriate punishment. There should be some flexibility based on the unique facts of the particular case, for young adults who fall in the gray area of 15-18. If you believe that they should also be allowed to drink and vote, again, I do not see the parallels. I can hear the howls of protest if a lawmaker said, since this age group can't drink, we are also taking away their right to vote and serve in the military. I don't necessarily believe every right and punishment for adult should be pushed up to 21. I believe that all should be at the same age regardless if it is 18, 19, 20, or 21. Those who can be punished as an adult should also receive all the rights of an adult. If someone can join the military they should be able to drink. If someone can be charged as an adult, they should be able to vote. We have too many different ages that define adulthood. For example, if the set age was 19, I think all 19 year olds should be able to vote, drink, join the military, and be tried as adults. We shouldn't be able to say that someone should be trusted to act like an adult and give them the same privileges that other adults get to enjoy. While I don't usually see things as just black or white, this is one of the few cases I do. Either you are an adult or your not; rights, privileges, and punishments included.
  6. QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 09:20 PM) For criminal law purposes, 16 is the age of majority in most states (certainly in New York and Arizona). The fact that the press calls them juveniles is meaningless. Remember that 16 is the age you can drop out of school and can work, etc. You can make decisions like an adult, you should be tried as an adult. 18 is only a significant age for the purpose of federal law, as far as I know. So if 16 year olds can make decisions like an adult and be tried as one, why can they not smoke, drink, or vote? It has also always bothered me that individuals can join the military and vote at 18, yet they are not seen fit to drink alcohol. I don't understand how someone can be trusted to vote in our country's leaders but yet they are not allowed to drink.

I'm reading Blood and Thunder by Hampton Sides. I am about a third of the way through and so far it is a great read. It tells stories of America conquering the west from the sides of the Navajo Indians, Mexican leaders, general Kearny, and the trapper/guide Kit Carson. It really gives an understanding of the of the time from many perspectives. The book shows no biases and shows the events from both sides.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) I'm a sucker for movies like that for some reason. If anything, I just want to see how they CGI'd the Ice Age. I enjoyed 10000 BC. I was very entertained throughout the whole movie.

  10. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) I hate ketchup and sweet tea. And in the South, not liking sweet tea is a sin. Everybody drinks that stuff. Of course, there's no such thing as sweet tea in the North, so none of you know what I'm talking about. I worked at a McAlisters for over 2 years, I know all about sweet tea and I drank it every shift I work. I think its delicious and I wish we would get some McAlisters up here. Things I hate: -Girls who tan too much (Its ok to not want to be pale, but when you are dark dark brown in the middle of January you gotta wonder how you skin is going to look when you are 40) -People who tell me how many drinks they've had tonight or last night (Well Ive had 4 beer, 3 shots, a long island ice tea, and 2 vodka sprites) I really dont care how much you drank, save us both some time by just saying you drank a lot -Rascal Flatts -Kids. They are all little monsters. -Jean Shorts on men -People that are constantly texting and taking pictures. -Most video game systems since Nintendo 64 (with the exception of the Wii)
  11. QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Dec 28, 2008 -> 08:13 AM) Though a kidney is probably the easiest and most common transplant, I will say that a transplant relies on other people, and not enough people in this world have their heads out of their asses and donate their organs. Speaking of reclusive music folks, whatever happened to Eminem? Can't stand the guy, but his complete vanishing act is pretty darn tooting interesting. Also...whatever happened with the Van Halen tour? They canceled it for mysterious reasons, and that was that. Nothing has been heard since then, and the official site still reads at the middle of the tour. Nothing about a cancellation or anything. They didn't cancel the tour, they rescheduled (maybe cancelled?) some dates so Eddie could do a stint at rehab. I was at one of the last few shows of the tour. If they do another one I would recommend seeing it because they can still rock
  12. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:15 PM) Because the point of the thread was the never ending ass sucking Hawk does on the air for the Twins. It. Gets. Old. Complimenting is one thing. Sucking ass for 9 straight innings of a 4 game set is another. I tried to sync Farmer and Stone with the tv after hearing about how big Joe Mauer is for the 800th time this series. Unfortunately the radio was ahead of the tv, so I switched it back to hear about how big Joe Mauer is for the 801st time a half inning later. If they have nothing else to talk about Hawk needs to go back to his Ted Williams stories he used to tell about twice a game. It beats comparing the size of Joe Mauer to everyone else in a White Sox uniform. One thing Hawk was right about tonight was that the new Twins stadium can't be built quick enough. The dome has got to go. I dread watching every time the Sox play in Minnesota.
  13. The latest says that the tour wills start again on March 11th but who knows anymore. I hope Eddie is ok and they dont cancel the Chicago show
  14. Unofficial was sweet last year, but this year im saving for spring break. Been drinking those dirty thirties so I can spend my 75 bucks a day in Panama. Might go pick one up right now...
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) No steroids From wikipedia (so it must be true) Van Halen has like 13 or 14 gold and platinum + alblums in a row
  16. When both teams are this good, there's not a lot to be mad about. When your a team like the Cubs on the other hand...
