I'm pretty annoyed this morning. I hop in the car and on the way to work I pop on Mike & Mike. It turns out Mark McGwire wanted to come clean and testify in those infamous, televised hearings. He told the "prosecution" he would come clean, that he'd used steroids, etc etc, but of course he wanted immunity. They went to the Attorney General, made the offer (which would have been HUGE for those hearings) and he denied the immunity. Big Mac then agreed that he wouldn't talk about the past in the hearings. He did not perjure himself, but he sure wasn't going to say something that would have him wind up in the slammer. He did nothing that any of us wouldn't have done, and now the nation has spent 5 years making fun of his "not here to talk about the past" statements, when he was more than willing. They should have given him immunity and that would have been much less of a joke. I still like Big Mac.

My favorite scene in the history of Seinfeld is the episode where Elaine's neighbor has a dog that won't shut up. She, Kramer, and Newman "take care of" said dog by stealing it and leaving it on the front stoop of someone's farmhouse... but it snags some of Kramer's shirt and brings it home. Authorities show up, yada, yada, yada. So we cut to a policeman at a door, and it's opened revealing Newman. Without a look of surprise on his face, and a cigarette hanging from his mouth, "What took ya so long?" Oh man, that gets me everytime. However, there's not much in Seinfeld that doesn't get me everytime... Jerry collecting money from Elaine over the Putty bet, and laughing with a cigar. Brilliant. I could go on all day. But yeah, that Newman scene above is great.

Alright, with Vlad off the market, you have to take a look at signing JD and rotating the DH/RF spot between him and TCQ. Give them each plenty of rest and also use the DH for Konerko some with Kotsay taking over 1st. That would keep all 3 of the older players well-rested (JD, Konerko, Kotsay), as well as give TCQ plenty of chances to DH and stay out of harm's way. At this point, JD is easily the best target who can be had and could fit in our budget, and he'd sign a one-year incentive-laden contract.

Might as well throw the other few up here.
