LET'S MAKE A LIST OCTOBER '11 - FAVORITE SPORTS MOVIES
IlliniKrush replied to knightni's topic in SLaM
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 09:50 AM) I don't think that's true at all. Each has a specific set of skills that are required to master the sport. Sure any joe blow can pick up a bowling ball and heft it down the lane or smack a golf ball down a fairway but at the professional level either one takes a lot of practice to really be good at it. I know the pros on TV make it look really easy but to maintain the averages/handicaps they do it requires a ton of skill. I've been bowling for about 25 years and usually maintain right around a 200 avg give or take 5 pins or so. The pros usually maintain 220+. Plus they bowl on much more difficult oil patterns. Maybe not 500x, but it's way more difficult. The average person is a much better bowler than they are a golfer. Plus, bowling is repeating the same exact thing for the majority of the game - 10 pins, same shot, nothing changes. You don't have the same exact shot in golf very often, if ever. There are plenty of things you can list that have "a very specific set of skills" but it doesn't make them require the skill golf does. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) I didn't know where to put this, so here goes. After 72 days, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are divorcing. Way to stick it out. Got a lot of congrats yesterday for having my marriage last longer than theirs.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) How so? Because it takes 500x the skill to golf well compared to bowling well? -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 12:28 AM) I've mentioned this a few times now...the books here have a ton of exposure on the Cardinals because their odds were so ridiculous at the beginning of Sept. There's some guy from St Louis who put $250 on the Cardinals to win both the NL and the WS. The NL was 500-1. He already cashed $125k there. The WS was 999-1. I think there are a ton of people who put between $10-100 on the Cards in the beginning of Sept when the odds were that long though. Holy f***. I couldn't imagine watching a game knowing $250K is on the line.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) Second, what the hell do people do when they don't go out on Friday nights? I'm bored out of my f***in mind. I found something for you to do.

Here's a video game style box score. WIN was up 6-2. Then PHI was up 7-6. And then WIN pulls it out 9-8 with a minute left. http://www.nhl.com/ice/boxscore.htm?id=2011020128

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 11:52 PM) Was I the only one that would have walked Albert and Lance in the 10th? I know it goes against pretty much everything but I wouldn't have even thought twice about it, would have walked them both. In a video game you might try that. Real-life, no f***ing way. You're not letting a single lose the game for you. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 11:55 PM) I didnt know Brian Kenny left ESPN to join MLB Network. It was a good career move for me. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 12:17 AM) So my buddy just showed me his gambling ticket from September 12th when he put 10 dollars on the Cards to win it all... I may drive to Vegas and put all my savings on the Cardinals and Carpenter. I should have done it for game 7 cubs/marlins 03 when I had no doubt then, I don't see this being any different.

Mighty Ducks higher than D2? This list just lost all credibility. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 12:54 AM) For as much as you like to make fun of me for my drunkenness have you ever known me to get into "drunken brawl?" I've been in plenty of fights before but they're out of necessity, I don't go looking for problems. No. But a bunch of you running into a bunch more of you would lead to more alcohol, more arguments, lots of bumping into one another, and ultimately fights.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 09:35 PM) If there were thousands of Rowand44's running around the world would be a much more fun yet scarier place. It would be one giant drunken brawl.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) Worst day of the year in Chicago is New Year's eve, by far. Yes, because you have thousands of Rowand44's running around. Agreed on all points Rock.

After a hit on Selanne he engaged with him, kept chirping him well behind the play like he wanted him to fight. Then kept getting into it on the benches with Parros and Getzlaf when they didn't like it for obvious reasons.

Not much else to be said about Kane tonight, brilliant. First glimpse of Carcillo clown style tonight, I knew it'd come eventually

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 01:29 PM) So I had a big time interview scheduled for this morning with possible relocation consequences and I was super excited/anxious about it, pretty much kept me up all night. I check my email this morning and turns out the person that was supposed to interview me had to reschedule to Monday because she got sick. Ugh. And

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 05:50 PM) This is the least excited I have been about Illini basketball since I can remember. The last few years have just been so disappointing, I don't want to get my hopes up before they fail once again. (Although who am I kidding, I'm sure I will be all in once the first ball tips off) How can you not be excited to see a new wave of, in theory, hard working guys who listen? It's exciting to know the disappointing class is now gone and we have something else to look forward to. I don't know how good they'll actually be, but it will be fun to watch them grow. The result may be close to the same, but how we get there will be far less maddening, it appears. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) How is it news? "Eat s*** f*** you" has been going on longer than "Jump Around". Because a letter just went out, that's how. Sweet tradition. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) Good point, I guess that Sharp kid's working out alright. It's hard to remember that it wasn't a FA move, just a flat-out raping.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 09:50 AM) Speaking of Salak, he's the organization's first legit goaltending prospect, and was acquired in possibly my favorite trade the Hawks have ever made... sending of Jack Skille and two dudes I don't care about and receiving Michael Frolik and Salak.
