  1. QUOTE (Ranger @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) Well, you can through every single players statistics and find at least a game or two that a big hit of theirs gave the team the win or one good play helped preserve a victory. I just want to make sure I get this right: you would be satisfied with the contributions of an individual Sox player that hit .225 with an OBP below .300 over only 90 games as long as his defense was good? Something about that strikes me as odd considering his 2004 season was statistically better, yet I remember vividly many, many Sox fans trying to run him out of town before the '05 season. Then people should have also been satisfied with Juan Uribe's contributions the last couple of Sox seasons, yet it sure didn't sound like they were. I'm assuming that you were also satisfied with Brian Anderson's 2006? The comparisons aren't valid. 2006-2008, Uribe's WAR came in at 0.9, -0.1, and .2. Anderson's came in at 0, -.5, and .1.
  2. QUOTE (Ranger @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 06:20 PM) So because of the suggestion of UZR, you honestly think he had a good year? I guarantee that if a Sox player puts up those kind of offensive numbers, you would not consider it to be a good season. I do. Crede's value has always been mainly defensive.
  3. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 06:04 PM) Nix: Uh-oh. Look at how many balls got by Nix.

  5. QUOTE (Ranger @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Are you serious? Go take a look at his line and tell me if you think you would call that "working out" if a player did that for the Sox. Aside from hitting 15 HRs in 90 games, Crede did not have a good year. Crede put up 1.9 WAR, thanks to his great defensive value (23.4 UZR/150)

  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 06:53 PM) I think soldier field itself is synonymous with the Bears brand, 100%. Coming down into chicago, on the lakefront, to watch the bears is part of the experience. They are the Chicago Bears and part of that is where they are located. I dont see them ever moving out of the city, if anything they could move farther south down the lakefront. But it's not something the need like the Cubs need Wrigley. The Bears play the most popular sport in America in the biggest undivided market in America.
  8. I like watching pro sports because it's an opportunity to watch people who are the best in the world compete at the highest levels, pitchers hitting is not this. And the whole strategy thing is overrated. If anything, not having a DH often dictates the strategy for you.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 11:05 AM) I think the whole situation was botched. The state or city should have gone the extra step and put a roof on the thing, if that meant a whole new building in a different location, that would have been OK by me. A roof would have given the ability to draw extra revenue for big events. If Detroit got a Super Bowl, no doubt Chicago would have got one (although that would have been likely a one time thing), Final Fours, Wrestlemania (might seem obscure to some, but that event often sells 50k+ tickets) and other large events. I was always under the impression that wjen JR built the UC, he had a handshake deal that Chicago wouldn't build another domed stadium, but I could be wrong.
  10. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 11:45 PM) As a country, Canada may indeed have the most talented players compared to other nations, and their Olympic squad may have the most talent at these games, but whether they have the best team has yet to be decided, and is far from a matter of absolute fact. I will regard the best team at the Olympics as the one that actually wins the tournament. Gold medals are won on the ice, not on roster sheets. Single elimination tournaments are a terrible way to determine team quality in any sport.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) I hope that wasn't the actual question (or "answer" as the case may be on Jeopardy), lol I thought it was a dead giveaway...
  12. QUOTE (3E8 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) The White Sox were the answer to a daily double question today on Jeopardy. "This is the President's favorite team and his favorite to play for them was Harold Baines". The guy answered the Bulls, then Bears The sports questions are always crazy easy, they had one where they asked what position Magic Johnson, Steve Nash and some other point guard played.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) It basically exposed the inherent risks in the "Indians Model," which is to buy out the arb years and the first few FA years of your promising young players. But in all fairness, stuff like that is the only thing that a team in a market like Cleveland can do if they want tot have a chance to compete.
  14. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 10:54 AM) Alex Rios http://www.talk-sports.net/mlb/sucks.aspx/Alex_Rios That link was full of legitimate baseball analysis. Thanks for that.
  15. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) Thunderbolt, Jones hit 17 home runs in limited at-bats in Texas. If he had 500 at-bats, he whould've hit 25 homers easily. A DH with 25 homers, a .214 avg. and a .323 OBP is a bad DH.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) And here is the pessimist in me... If he was a PEDs guy, what would stop him from finding something undetectable through piss tests to save his career? As long as he's on the White Sox, I'd call it mixed optimism at the very least.
  17. ^^^ Could that have worked out any better? No facing Russia/Canada until Gold Medal Game.
  18. Yeah, that's the place. They had a nice Buehrle perfect game one too.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) what kind of shape is rios in? Surely that will tell us. It doesn't matter, Alexei lost 30 pounds this off-season, so we're good to go.
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) Congrats on reply 2,000. Or 2001: A Post Odyssey.
  21. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) Probably not. Can he get Type F status? Hey, don't knock type F free agents. If someone signs Jones next year, the Sox get a free stadium blanket.
  22. Finally saw Hurt Locker. It was really good.
