  1. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 11:02 PM) Any of you Ohio State fans remember the name Walter Dublin? He could get drafted late, has a cool story. Left OSU to help his sick mom, played in the AFL (youngest to play there) and CFL b/c he was too young for the NFL. Now eligible for the NFL draft, runs a 4.6 40-yard dash at 6'3", 275 lbs as a DE. I kind of wonder why more guys don't do that, to be honest.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 06:08 PM) With the added players that aren't receiving offers, it's almost time to expand again. If not expand teams, at least expand rosters from 25 to 27. The NL nutting up and adding the DH would take care of a lot of the issues.
  3. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) The DH position is "the most effective hitter". On the 2010 Sox it's designed to exploit matchups. That could mean move a runner over, sac fly, take a walk or lay down a bunt. Why is this so hard for people to grasp?! Because it's stupid, and doesn't help the Sox win.
  4. Press conference at 12 East on MLB Network.
  5. I get the Yankee Stadium thing, but our park's pretty home run happy. And honestly, even if Damon hits 0 HR's, he's a more productive hitter than Mark Kotsay.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) Its a little different. How come no one takes it out of the mothballs for a full season as a "tribute"? Unretire all the numbers, then every player who ever had a number retired can have someone wear "his" number as a tribute. It will be great, after all, its apparently more of an honor to have someone wear your number instead of having it in mothballs. My point is its silly to retire numbers if you are going to unretire them. Does anyone really think a back-up 43 year old infielder is really going to raise the awareness of Luis Aparicio a guy who, its getting at least close to the point that the majority of people in the USCF stands never saw play in a White Sox uniform? Even if it does, will it be long lasting and will JimH's buddies in their board shorts and hats on backwards even care? Damned kids these days, I swear...
  7. Facebook status form someone I barely know, but still awesome. --bahahahaha. some people are just too STUPID for their own good...just like the people trying to get there car out of the parking lot.
  8. Edward Norton's character in Fight Club.
  9. QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) MB's perfect game. Studying for the Bar exam. I just remember getting what I thought was a REALLY random text from a friend in California (who should not have been able to see the game) about Dwayne Wise. It was so strange that I didn't think anything of it for almost an hour when I took a study break. This. My friend had tickets, but I had work that day so I had to pass. I caught the 9th inning on the radio by chance (went to the car on a break). Got let go from the job two weeks later due to staff reduction.

    USB Drives?

I carry it, mostly to print stuff from my laptop at school.
  11. BBC World Service is the best part of nighttime driving. I like NPR as well.

  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) It's probably a sign and trade. I think they're targeting AJ and Kotsay. We don't have At Bats for Mauer, he can go play elsewhere in the division.
  14. It seems like the consensus is that eventually he'll be a first baseman, but would it be possible that he could play 3B or corner outfield after he stops catching full time? Because he could be a more valuable piece if that happens. Though to be fair, even if he were a DH full time, he still has crazy high value.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) It's all those years as practice back in high school when I worked at a Cinnabon at the mall. I guess I never took my skills with me from when I worked there.
  16. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) That's a little hyperbolic. They came up short in the 2995 and 1997 World Series games, but took them to 6 and 7 games, and only lost in 1997 to the Marlins in extras. Four consecutive division championships from 1995-1998 is hardly not winning anything, though sure they have no hardware to show for all of that. I totally hated the that era's Indians teams, and for years I blamed the strike on derailing our momentum and letting the Tribe dominate he division all those years.
  17. 1B/CF? Weird combination, but I want the guy.
  18. 2000 broke my little 11 year old heart, I can only imagine stuff like 83.
  19. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) Why? He seems to be on track to match all of these guys. It's not that I don't think I can, but I'm still unsure about Beckham's defense at 2B. And lets face it, a tier below those guys is still really impressive. Second is loaded with talent right now. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) For a starting player, it is. For any player, it's not. I don't really know what MLBN was getting at, but Konerko, Beckham, and Ramirez are still above average players. I see your point, but the fact is they're starters, so I feel like you have to hold them to that standard.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 11:07 AM) Konerko's still slightly above league average. As a 2.5 win player, that's better than your average starting player. Gordon Beckham posted a 2 WAR last year in 100 games and he'll probably progress, so definitely above average. Even Alexei was slightly above average last year on a down offensive year. They really picked the wrong guys to call "average". Usually, when we talk about league average, we mean replacement player, which means a WAR of 0. All three of these guys are far beyond that level. A WAR of 2 is average. The fact is, Konerko gets destroyed because of the positional adjustment. Alexei had a down year, but I think he rebound, and his plate discipline continues to improve. As for Beckham, I think he'll be a good 2B, probably a tier below Utley, Pedroia, and Kinsler (and maybe Zobrist) though.
  21. I think I saw this a few weeks ago. All they did was look at the avg. players Avg./HR/RBI total and find a guy with similar totals.
  22. Mishawaka (I'm just gonna do Northern Indiana)
