  1. That was a lot more stressful than it should have been. But we'll take it.
  2. If only these employees would lift a finger to enforce the smoking regulations, I'd be a happier fan. People smoke on the concourse all the time and I have yet to see anyone even asked (by a Sox employee) to stop smoking where smoking is prohibited.
  3. That was an ass-kicking of the highest order.
  4. I haven't tried all those beers, so I can't make a valid judgment. But Natty Lite was the swill of choice when I was in college, so I'm inclined to vote for it as the worst beer of all time.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 04:54 PM) All I'll say on this topic is this one item: in 6 months, someone needs to bump this thread. Maybe even 3. Maybe even 1. Exactly. Let's look at this in three or six months. If this is really a "turning point," then we're going to see a reduction in violence in Iraq. Like I said, I'll believe it when I see it. Otherwise, it's just a bit of good news amidst a deluge of bad news.
  6. Were those power rankings released today? After the vaunted Mets dropped 2 of 3 games to the 4th place team in the AL East? If so, what a joke.
  7. I watched all three games on the TV this weekend, and I was proud to see the White Sox fans showing up in such force. It almost sounded like a home game with the chants of "Paul-ie" and "Let's go White Sox"!
  8. Maybe this will act as a barb which gets Pods to work on improving his defense.
  9. QUOTE(jenksd @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) I think both clubs are feeling very good about themselves right now. What he said. I do think that the Tigers have to feel like they're playing with house money right now. The longer they stay in first, the more confident they're going to feel. I just wonder when they're going to hit that stretch where they drop 6 of 7 and how they're going to react. Overall, I think the Sox have a better foundation for continued success this season. The Tigers have too many question marks in their starting rotation (when it comes to season-long success and durability, not "stuff" or skill).
  10. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) Maybe the MO is different but Id feel safer in Baghdad then in a lot of inner city neighborhoods. The events of the last 2 weeks are pretty solid evidence that our Iraq strategy is now working and will continue to do so. That being said, we have to press our advantage and finish the job of rolling up the terror groups in that country. I do, however, anticipate that troop reductions are going to happen this year, not because of some arbitrary deadline but because the Iraqi security forces taking charge will make their further presence unnecessary I'll believe it when I see it. This is just another "turning point," just like the last 10 or 20 that the administration has touted....
  11. QUOTE(minors @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) These sick freaks they started killing all the way back in May 2002. And of course now he admits it because the liberal Supreme Court ruled he could not get the death penalty because he was 17 in stead of 18. This guy knew what he was doing and his action were very much adult behavior and should have recieved the same punishment as the other guy. Sniper With Roberts and Alito on the court now, the Supreme Court is anything but liberal. This is not, of course, important to you. Anything with which you disagree is automatically "liberal."
  12. No help from the Cubs, but then, we didn't really expect any, did we?
  13. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) Not turning up? The security crackdown is working, violence is coming down to Los Angeles levels, the full government is in place, a huge amount of actionable intelligence has been found which has led to raids netting hundreds of insurgents and killing a couple hundred more. Um..... Los Angeles levels? When's the last time there was a car bombing in Los Angeles?
  14. Somehow, I don't think the Cubs are going to be able to help us out much this weekend.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) Thankfully the process is long, drawnout and difficult, as to keep crap like this from be coming constitutionally protected. Agreed.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) To the people in favor of this amendment ... Do you realize that changing the constitution in anyway requires a constitutional convention? Do you realize that if and when a convention is called, they will not just vote on this one item and adjourn? Do you realize that once the convention begins, anything and everything is fair game? They don't have to go through this tough criteria on each issue, just the first one. Once the convention starts, they could theoretically gut the constitution as it currently stands. In my opinion, this is a relatively piss poor issue to risk exposing the constitution to the whims this group of politicians. This doesn't even come close to justifying a constitutional convention. Look past the jingoism for a minute and think about the can of worms that can be opened here. Actually, you don't need a convention to amend the constitution. All it takes is a two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate to propose the amendment. Then, 3/4 of the states must approve of the amendment. A convention may also be convened, but it is not needed. Here's the text from Article V of the Constitution, which deals with amendments: (From the National Archives)
  17. Is there a rash of flag-burnings going on in the US that I'm simply not aware of? Is there a need for this amendment?
  18. I've also got to tip my hat to Juan Uribe for the great game he had last night. I've been critical of Juan lately, so props where props are due. Swinging a hot bat and playing some great defense will do that....
  19. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Look, if you're having an abortion through RU-486 (the day after) arguing that you're killing something is completely asinine. Point of clarification- Are you talking about the "Morning After Pill" or RU-486? They are not the same thing. It doesn't affect your argument, but I think it's important that people know there's a difference. The Morning After Pill is simply a higher-dose birth control pill. It's no different from the birth control pills that millions of women use every day. It works by suppressing ovulation. The Morning After Pill is only effective up to 48 hours after unprotected intercourse. RU-486, on the other hand, will cause an abortion and will work after fertilization and implantation. I'll go back to my lurking, now....
  20. Another good, smart move by KW. Good job!
  21. This game would be a great one to win. Let's take the series!
  22. QUOTE(bmags @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) i wasn't complaining, i just thought it was funny. I didn't say you were complaining. I thought it was funny as well.
