QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) You make it sound like there's never been any clever here in the Dem thread . . . True. That's not what I meant, but that's how it reads. Crap.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 05:40 PM) "I don't think that taste is there." Heh heh heh. I caught it. (Seconds after that was uttered, Podsednik takes Lidge deep for the walk-off HR.)

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) Congress needs to ask the right questions. For sure. But, Congress doesn't set the policy for these items in wartime. That's the only thing. So where's the balance? Right here. There they go, moving the goalposts again. (And kap, don't even think of making a clever retort. You're in the Dem thread now.)

While I understand it's tradition to do the "na na hey hey" song when the opposing pitcher gets pulled, I always thought there should be a requirement that the Sox knocked him out. There have been times when the opposing pitcher has been dealing, the Sox haven't really gotten to him, but the pitcher gets pulled, usually for matchup purposes. But it wasn't a removal because the Sox smacked him around. I always thought that jeering an opposing pitcher who's throwing a great game against us doesn't show us to be very baseball astute. Still, it's tradition, I guess.

Firefly was so badly bungled by Fox. They showed episodes out of order and didn't give it the time it needed to succeed. I love SportsNight; it was a very smart show. If "Scrubs" gets canceled like some of you think it will, I'm going to be one angry man.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) Why do I find this picture so funny? I'd like to introduce y'all to my next nominee for Director of Homeland Security....

72% of U.S. Troops want out of Iraq within 1 year
Balance replied to Balance's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) Yeah I am sure the troops all want to be in Iraq fighting a war. Sounds like a great way to spend your time if you ask me... of course they want to be out of Iraq in a year. Hell I wonder how they found 29% of people who wanted to stay Also interesting... The weekenders want out quicker as opposed to the guys who are "in". So, you're questioning the troops' courage and commitment, then? -

QUOTE(juddling @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) i guess that 680 soliders in the sample size speaks for the rest. Yet another worthless poll. Well, that's what it means to conduct a scientific poll. So, yes, that sample is statistically representative of the whole. -
http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1075 A Zogby poll released today showed that an overwhelming 72% of our troops in Iraq believe that we should completely withdraw from Iraq within one year. I guess they want to "cut and run" like Kerry and Murtha, eh? I'm just waiting for Rove's spin on this one.

Could Chicago host the 2016 games?
Balance replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I really don't want it here. Think of all the expenses to taxpayers and the traffic and congestion, to say nothing of all the security that will be needed. Too much of a hassle. -
But victory is just around the corner!

Certainly, all Frank accomplished over his career with the White Sox would merit a standing ovation when he returns.... ...were it not for how he conducted himself from the late 90's onward. As talented as he was as a hitter, he had a nasty habit of appearing to be a "me-first" guy. His attitude this offseason has cemented that impression. I won't boo Thomas. I have too much respect for his long career here to do that. But I won't give him a standing ovation. Polite applause seems appropriate.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) Now here's your Roe V Wade challenge. DO IT!!!!!!! The time has never been better to end the practice of state sponsored murder of children. As George Carlin said, "Not every ejaculation deserves a name."

The link still doesn't work. Care to describe what it's all about?

I was able to get a pair of tickets to all three Sox/Cubs games, and I picked up some tickets to Elvis Night. And then I decided that I should rein in the spending.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) Want revenue for clean-up? Tell the cops to ticket for littering when they see it. And tell the press you intend to do that. The combined effects should help. A-frickin'-men! Too many people in my neighborhood just throw their trash on the street, never mind that there are plenty of garbage cans within a block's walk. Is it so hard to carry your potato chip bag that far? I could go on, but I need to keep my stress level down.

What Juggs thread? What vote? Dammit, I wasn't consulted!!!

Checking in on Clinton's investment fund.
Balance replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 11:41 AM) Probably because his wife is still a Senator, and may be running for higher office in 2 years? Then they should talk about Hillary. Bill Clinton is no longer the president, yet he still serves as a rallying point for the right wing nuts. -

Balance replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
I'm puzzled why all there's still all these right-wing attacks against Clinton. The man's been out of office for 5 years. Maybe the best response is to revisit some of the misdeeds of the Nixon administration. It's as relevant. -
Sadly, that's how it's going....

This is probably why the fiancee and I haven't gone to see a movie in months.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) He did break the rules and should be punished accordingly. But, sure, I do feel sorry for him if one screw up does end up killing a legitimate shot at a scholarship and possibly cost him a chance at going to college. I would feel bad for him, too. But people need to learn that actions have consequences. Getting arrested will tend to have a negative impact on your future.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) Hit a google news search on Cisneros. It has been reported by a few different reputable groups now. I remembered seeing LA Times at the top of the list when I checked. Well, if the story is being reported by reputable news sources, it's therefore in the news. Where, then, is the purported bias that's keeping it out of the news?
-
Where'd this report come from, perchance? I'm a little suspicious about bias when the article refers to a "Democratic law firm." Law firms are made up of individuals, all of whom have their own views.
