  1. Of course, how do you determine what country the terrorist attack came from? And how can you say that "Country X perpetrated the terrorist attack" as opposed to "Some guys who happened to be from Country X perpetrated the terrorist attack"? I think France is posturing, more than anything else.
  2. With all this in mind, you have to like the prospect of Jose pitching for a contract this year. Even if he walks after '06, we'll probably get a fantastic effort out of him this season.
  3. I'll definitely be avoiding driving to the park like the plague. CTA Red Line all the way.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) Wait? Is this a Six Million Dollar Man reference? Yes. It just seemed to fit.
  5. First album I ever bought was Mr. Mister- "Welcome to the Real World." Followed closely by Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet." Both on vinyl.
  6. Option 2 makes the most sense. "We can rebuild him. We have the technology."
  7. I'm glad I got my partial plan in December! While I'm going to have a good time rooting for the Illini and Bulls this winter and spring, I am already excited for the Sox to get underway and defend their championship in 2006!
  8. I'm apparently getting mauled to death by a rabid pit bull. I guess I should be more careful at the ol' dog park....
  9. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!! I'm sorry you all had to hear that. It was the stress talking. I feel marginally better now.

    Joey update...

I'm very sorry for your loss.
  11. I keep wishing that our choice in 2000 would have been Bradley and McCain instead of Gore and Bush.
  12. Someone, quick! Bring him a bag of pretzels! EDIT: For all of you Secret Service people reading this message, it's a joke.

    Scrubs

Here's another endorsement for Scrubs. I love the show.
  14. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) ... Chew's classmate, Linda Cox, works a minimum-wage job and has been a Public Aid recipient for 15 years. She also relies heavily on public transportation. "I only earn $560 a month and of that, over $200 a month goes to my bus fare," Cox told The NewStandard. "I have a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old who also need to get to school. If they change the prices and take away transfers, there are going to be a lot of days missed. I already see no money at the end of the month." ... Someone ought to tell this woman that for $75 per month, she can have unlimited rides on the CTA, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Spending $200 per month on bus fare is just plain dumb.
  15. Well, the signing is a pleasant surprise. I just don't know what will come of it. On the plus side, the Sox are in the proverbial "catbird seat," where they have a lot of positive options for moving forward. I wonder what KW will have for us....
  16. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) The bottom line is was it illegal? No one here can answer that. And the sooner this gets vetted, the sooner we can correct the actions, one way or the other. And if it's illegal, don't we have to at least consider impeachment? After all, if what Dubya did was illegal, it would seem that it violated his oath to uphold the Constitution, right? Or that it's a "high crime [or] misdemeanor?"
  17. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) Anti-Christmas votes Last week, the House of Representatives passed a resolution to protect the symbols and traditions of Christmas. The vote was 401-22 in favor of the resolution (5 voted "present"); below are the representatives that voted "nay." Gary Ackerman (D-NY) Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) Lois Capps (D-CA) Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) Diana DeGette (D-CO) Jane Harman (D-CA) Alcee Hastings (D-FL) Michael Honda (D-CA) Barbara Lee (D-CA) John Lewis (D-GA) Jim McDermott (D-WA) George Miller (D-CA) Gwen Moore (D-WI) James Moran (D-VA) Donald Payne (D-NJ) Bobby Rush (D-IL) Janice Schakowsky (D-IL) Bobby Scott (D-VA) Fortney Stark (D-CA) Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) Robert Wexler (D-FL) Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) Anyone have the text of that resolution? (And is this thread doomed to be moved to the Filibuster?)
  18. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) I did, actually, but NOT on the charges he was brought up on. I think he did far more serious things in office, but the one that stuck was lying about the "devil with the blue dress on..." which was VERY unfortunate. (nice song tie in...) So I think you can relate, then, to those of us who believe that Dubya has done some "far more serious things in office" which might, just might, be impeachable offenses. There's evidence, some of it circumstantial, some of it from Dubya's own admissions, that he broke the law and violated the Constitution, which he swore an oath to uphold. I don't think it's fair to simply dismiss it, to refuse to investigate it, and to accuse the people who are calling for an investigation (which, I might add, stops far short of impeachment) of partisanship or supporting the enemies of the United States. EDIT: I don't mean that you're calling people traitors, I mean that's what the Right Wing Spin Machine is doing.
  19. Heading back to the '80's- Heard some Survivor (the rock group, not the show) on the radio a few weeks ago. Bought their "Greatest Hits" from iTunes. I was rocking out to Survivor on the Red Line this morning. (There really wasn't any other place to put this.)
  20. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) Get ready... I pretty much agree with this. This is not an easy issue. But my points are that the law allows certain things to take place, and all presidents bend it to fit the needs of the day. This case is no different. Whether Clinton, Carter, Bush I, or Bush II has done it, I don't like it. Let's find out what the right way to do this is, and get it done. I do, however, think the bashing of Bush for taking something out of the law that he really believes is the right thing to do, and admitting it, with that as a pretext, the "IMPEACH HIM" cries need to go the hell away. Be honest- did you support the calls for Clinton's impeachment?
  21. QUOTE(Yoda @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) Merry Christmas everyone. This is the time of year to be happy, joyful, pleasant, and at times indigent, for whatever reason. But hopefully all you soxtalker’s have a good one. Indigent? I sure hope not!
