Steve Phillips AL MVP...
They also said Busty Olney picked JD. Now the Sox just need to make the playoffs.

Keep Jermaine in the #3 hole
QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 12:44 AM) Do you guys think Ozzie will actually do this once Thome comes back? Unfortunately, I doubt it, but you can always hope.

Garland's ERA revisited
I could care less about the Cy Young award. It seems like the award is getting more and more like Gold Gloves. The Cy Young will come down to Halladay and Santana. It is amazing what not hitting a batter can do to a pitcher.

24 games in 24 days: The tracker
The Sox need to win out vs Detroit and go 2-1 vs Minnesota to stay on track. The 2-2 split vs KC hurt.

No updates on CBS for the 17th. Only caught one for the 18th:

Heath Phillups
If the Sox don't have room for him, he now has pretty good trade value to make a package deal.

soriano on waivers
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) actually I think every player gets put on waivers, you just pull them back. I thought that most teams put a lot of players on the waiver wire to mask the players they want to move. If they didn't do that teams would low-ball them.

IF the Sox win the Wild Card...
If the Sox win the WC, than more than likely they will either go to Oakland or NYY. I think the pitching matchups will change depending on who the Sox play.

Red Sox trade for Eric Hinske
I just wonder if this was an extension of the Hillenbrand situation.

Speculation about Pods
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 08:02 AM) Yeah he's having a nice season no doubt. But he'll also be 40 at the start of next season. I think the Sox would prefer more of a longer term investment if they were going to replace Uribe, because they don't exactly have anyone in the minors who's really ready to take over at SS. Personally I think the Sox see Owens' role in the future as that 4th OF, kind of like what Pablo Ozuna is doing right now. On Dye with these OF's in AAA, you can see why some people here have mooted him in a deal for Roy Oswalt. Well then you would have to sign a FA like Dellucci or trade for one like Crawford if you still wanted that leadoff hitter at LF, and it's not Pods, but you don't want it to go to a guy like Sweeney either. KW certainly has multiple options on this though. I can definitely see Owens in that role off the bench, but that would not solve the leadoff hitter role if Pods leaves. With the extra Starting Pitcher and some decent expendable prospects, the Sox should be able to make something happen this offseason.

Speculation about Pods
QUOTE(TLAK @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 07:41 AM) I'm surprised no one mentioned Jerry Owens. Ozzie named him as a possible September call up. I know he P'd offed Joey Cora over the winter and started off terrible at Charlotte but I see he's climbed to .264 AVG .330 OBP 37 SB. I think the present White sox starting lineup definitely needs more effective speed. I also haven't seen him in a box score for about a week. Can anyone who watches the Knights let us know how he's playing, beyond the numbers? Is this guy close to becoming a Major Leaguer? Those 37 SBs come with 11 CS. Fields has 25 SBs to 5 CS, and Rogo has 26 SBs to 9 CS. Owens has a sub 700 OPS in AAA, so I don't think he would be ready in 2007, possibly 2008. The one odd thing is the Sox will have to find room for one or two of them soon. If Anderson is locked in at CF, then Fields, Sweeney, and Owens are competing for the other 2 OF positions. That doesn't even count Dye.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) I haven't forgot the past couple days. Yesterday, there was only one pic of Contreras crying. And today CBS didn't release anything. These were reposted today on CBS, but still nothing for August 17th yet. August 15th vs KC August 16th vs KC

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) Horrible, horrible, horrible series. However, we picked up a game on the Twinkies and FINALLY got Mark his 10th win, so I'll take it. For the series, we lost half a game. The Twinkies went 2-1 while the Sox went 2-2. I just hope the Sox play up to the competition vs the Twins. This is going to be a huge series.

Speculation about Pods
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Yes, they only lead off once per game, but they also quite often have the chance to set the table for your 2-5 hitters. Their performance in front of those guys directly impacts the performance of your big guns. I know, I just think the label gets used like the guy leads off 4-5 times a game. As long as that player is a high OBP guy he should be able to leadoff.

Red Sox trade for Eric Hinske

Speculation about Pods
The funny thing about the leadoff hitter is that they are only guaranteed to leadoff once a game. If the Sox move Pods, they will more than likely pickup a leadoff hitter at another position (SS).
