QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 10:01 AM) I appreciate Sheffield for speaking his mind. I am guessing this was meant to be green, in which case, well played. If it was serious, then... see Fathom's post.

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) quite true.. so maybe you have to overpay a bit to get a middle reliever in May rather than July. What a difference it would have made. You are suggesting that overpaying for one middle reliever would have made a significant difference? I really don't think so. This bullpen has multiple holes to fill, and having to give up the farm to fill just one of them would not have helped much this season (but it would definitely have hurt later).

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 11:00 AM) I did qualify my statement by saying he half heartedly threw Dye in front of the bus. When asked about Dye he was grouped in with other performs and then it was said that he is "focusing on himself". I think he was seriously talking about multiple people, Dye among them. I guess I also tend to agree with KW on this one, so I don't feel so bad for Dye. But he did certainly take a stab there, you are right about that.
-
Seriously, what trades could KW have made in May or even June for solid, experienced relievers, that wouldn't have required giving up major talent from the minors (which the Sox have a very limited supply of anyway) or giving up some high price like a starter? And besides, in spring training and even the first month plus of the season, everyone was PRAISING the bullpen for their performance. And there is still a lot of talent in the bunch, but some of them need more development. KW gets some responsibility for it because its his roster, sure. But to say this "all falls on KW" is to suffer from long term memory loss.

Please, as a favor to all of us, let's all try NOT to say ANYTHING about the plot, storyline or characters in the 7th book for a little while yet, since basically no one has read it. Or, maybe start a seperate thread for those who HAVE read it? Just a thought.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) There seemed to be some hints that Dye could be brought back if Sweeney and Co. are not ready. KW sounds none to pleased with Dye and seems to have half heartedly threw him in front of the bus. DYE'ing to get a new contract I fail to see where in that article that KW threw Dye under the bus. He said the whole team is disappointing, and that Dye is included in that. And that is an understatement.

If Jackson can even play semi-decent defensively in the OF, with his bat, he could be a great pickup. But he isn't worth Garland or Vaz. I am hoping its JC plus a spect for Jackson, but that might not be enough, depending on the spect.

And its Wassermann!!!

Ehren Wassermann has been called up to the majors. -
As for directors, there have been rumors that one M. Night Shyamalan may direct one of the remaining two movies. He was supposedly slated to do an earlier one, but schedules conflicted and it didn't work out. As the films and books get darker and more mature, I think Shyamalan's style might work quite well with the franchise.

(test post) I am hoping for Wassermann, but they'd have to move someone off the 40-man to do it, so that's not likely. Heh, new reply window is pretty cool.

Rudy Giuliani has a BIG problem....

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 10:40 AM) Well, if the GOP wants a GWBushII type, they will get totally decimated in the election. I think the american public has had enough of these new "conservatives". The only good thing that has come out of this admin are tax cuts and supreme court nominations. edit: ok, i'll also give them credit on busting up terror cells and stopping attacks in the US. The GOP knows they need to have someone more moderate. Personally, i hope Giuliani wins the whole thing. Shady business dealings and infidelities? uhhhh, he seems like a saint compared to the dems "hillary and bill clinton in 2008" ticket. Thats the main thing to the GOP, not letting Hilary be president. Republicans don't want to see taxes go up to 40% on working families again. I am certainly no Hillary defender - I don't like her either. I was coming at it more from a GOP-only perspective. I don't think they want Rudy, or McCain. I think its Romney or Thompson. -

Between this, his pro-choice stand, his repeated infidelities, his questionable business dealings... he just isn't what the GOP wants. He won't get the nod. -
QUOTE(J-MAN @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) After having spent 7+ hours on an international flight with a family that had a young child who screamed most of the 7 hours I support the flight crew. If people can't get their children to behave reasonably they shouldn't fly - particularly on long flights. The parents seemed oblivious to their "little darling's" screaming. Before you say anything - yes I do have children. Some people are just slobs and have no idea of how to be civil - what really grossed me out was the mother changed the kid in the seat - didn't even take him to the bathroom to change him! OK, yeah, that's gross. And of course I have been highly annoyed by screaming kids on a plane. But, as a parent I am sure you know, you often cannot stop a small child from screaming, much as you want to. And WTF would you do if your kid was saying "bye bye plane"? I mean really, are you going to slap him for talking in a fashion that might be annoying? I'm sorry, but I see zero excuse for what the stewardess did here.

Guys... arre you seriously discussing the logical flaws in a movie about chevys becoming living toy robots? even better, you are seriously discussing the logical flaws in a Michael Bay movie?!

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 01:30 PM) This woman deserves frequent flier miles, recouped for expenses and that's it. no way should she get $$$. I'd add in she should get the money from her plane ticket refunded.

Former Surgeon General Complains of Censure, Manipulation

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 01:05 PM) LOL That really made me laugh. You consider meteorologists scientists? That's almost like calling a fortune teller a scientist. Well. meteorologists are scientists as well. But most weather-people are NOT meteorologists. -
QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) Customers are assholes as much as customer service people. There's way too much "customer is always right" and "my kids aren't like that" bulls*** around. If any of you ever worked customer service, you'd agree with me. People will try anything to get "paid". That might be true. But in this case, I see some pretty crappy customer service, no matter how annoying the kid was. Also, have you done much flying lately? There are certainly plenty of good folks working for the airlines, but there are a LOT of really pissy people too (which might be as a result of their working conditions, I do not know).

QUOTE(JPN366 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) You misspelled his name! It's Ehrn Wasserman! That's what ESPN2 said. Heh. ESPN2 needs to check their info I think. According to MILB, the Barons' site and his college, I got his name spelled correctly. Wait... why was he on ESPN2? -
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) interesting stat... in 2002, Joe Crede made an error in 15% of the games he played with the Sox. This dropped to 9% in 2003, 8% in 2004, 7% in 2005 and 6% in 2006. in 2007, Josh Fields has made an error in 9% of the games he played with the Sox. That is interesting. But Josh has only played 32 games this year, Joe only 53 games in 2002. I'd start the comparison in Josh's and Joe's first full years. Also, errors are not a great way to measure defensive ability. Its only a small part of the picture, and even then is subject to the whims of official scorers. And the other measures that can sometimes be helpful like ZR and RF won't be as reliable until a player has played most or all of a season.
-
Yeah, I remember him being a big time hitter, and then he became a pitcher. Maybe now, while he is still young, its time to put him back on the other side of the ball.
-
I am glad to see this get national attention - flying has become such a pain in the ass. The airlines have really gone off the deep end, and anything that can be done to broadcast their lack of customer service is good.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) He needs to cut down on the strikeouts, though. But I do like his power and ability to hit to the opposite field. Fields is serviceable at 3B, but I don't think that he'll ever be more than mediocre there. If a better defensive option comes along somewhere down the line, I wouldn't mind moving Fields to LF. Crede was a defensive bad-ass, even with a bad back. With him and Ventura, we've been spoiled defensively at the hot corner. Definitely spoiled, and with Fields there, I think people will start to miss Joe a lot in the long run. Hopefully Josh can develop into a significantly better hitter than Joe. It looks like he might.
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 01:42 AM) right now he isn't. Most forget Joe wasn't this stud defensive thirdbasemen when he came up either. Fields already has good range and has better arm then Crede, he just needs to really work on his glovework and the transition from glove to ball. Nobody is forgetting - Crede was just far better defensively when he started here than Fields is now. And now yes, that gap is even wider. And no, Fields doesn't have a better arm than Crede. He may have more potential to have a stronger arm, being a former QB, but he has neither the strength nor accuracy of Crede's arm right now.

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) no chatter around here about Senator Vitter? http://news.aol.com/story/_a/alleged-madam...709224309990001 rumor has it, Cheney was on her rolodex too. Not for personal use, but for business use when he was at Halliburton. Eh, another Senator who can't keep his wick dry. No big surprise really. If he was in IL, I'd make sure not to vote for him.
