  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 11:30 PM) I said 'hitter' Scotty. Ha! So you did, I even bolded it.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 11:06 PM) Amen, brother Rockin. That was a pretty entertaining post, Dick Allen. One of the best I've ever read. It's why message boards are worthwhile. I didn't get mad at Abreu today at all for his failures, but to be fair, it should be noted that if you had to pick on one hitter who "cost us the game" it probably would be him today. Opposite of the pick to click I'd say. That's OK obviously but he stunk today. Paulino does suck, though. Please cut him loose, White Sox. My god he is buzzkill (so is Axelrod; don't you dare bring him up to the big league club). Over any of the pitchers?
  3. Indians have had some of the wimpiest hits this series...
  4. This game is incredibly hard to background-watch on mute with no graphics.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) Ventura sure is hesitant to ask for reviews. Was definitely safe though so maybe they saw it on replay
  6. What's with our entire pitching staff struggling to throw strikes? That's not the trait of a Coop staff at all...
  7. If this offense keeps up, we'll start pulling in a normal number of people. I almost went to this one, but live in Peoria so it was a little too much for the wife.
  8. I would not say Gillaspie has cost the team anything yet.
  9. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 02:28 PM) The blackouts don't anger me nearly as much as the fact that archived games randomly restart mid stream, that they leave up the blank COMMERCIAL BREAK screen for some unknown reason even when watching archived streams, that the screen goes blank when you fast forward so that you have no idea where you are, that the slowest you can FF is in :59 increments, making it impossible to skip the blank, unsold commercial breaks, that there's no way to skip to specific innings, that the Apple TV stream shows the final scores of the archived games by default, etc. Mlb.tv is a textbook example of how quality suffers without competition. Xbox version takes care of several of these issues (inning indexing, skipping commercials easily, not starting in the middle, not showing scores). Or, at least it did last year. I haven't watched a game on it this year. But yeah, the Apple TV version sucks. Was definitely an afterthought.
  10. Ugh...... Also, it's silly to blame Viciedo even though he's a bad defender. Avi had terrible form on that dive. The next time anyone hit a sinking liner in Avi's direction, it was gonna happen. 100% his own fault.
  11. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 07:13 PM) Belisario sucks. I'd release him after the game Haha everyone sucks but maybe Webb and Cleto. Can't release all of them
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) flowers with a total whiff! Playing up further than he would since he can't block the plate. Don't love that new rule.
  13. Lots of pitchers start out in the bullpen, get spot starts, then go back to the bullpen. Some of them then go on to be starters. What, precisely, do people suppose has been altered by this pattern of development? If anything, bullpen guys should throw a greater percentage of strikes than starters, so I'm not sure how "being jerked around" would result in an inability to throw strikes. Are you saying he gets fatigued easily because of the role switch? He should be able to get stretched out over a season. Seems like the reason all of this happened is that Santiago is a fringe player, not the other way around.
  14. Meh, Hector was a borderline talent to begin with. He was never really highly-regarded by anyone until he showed some stuff in the bullpen. That's what you get as a fringy prospect: you get put wherever you can fill a hole. He ended up demonstrating some impressive qualities but that doesn't mean they should have handled him like he was a potential core player.
  15. I don't know if it's worth anything, but Paulino really needs his slider to bite in order to find success, so neither Arizona nor Colorado are good places for him to show what he's capable of. Add the "rust" factor in, and I'm not at all ready to write the guy off. He throws 95 and has decent off-speed pitches. If he's still looking like this in late May or June, I'm ready to declare the lottery ticket a bust.
  16. These types of games are so fun to watch after such a long time averting my eyes from the offensive black hole from which no timely hit escaped last year.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 4m #chisox sign tommy hanson to minor league deal I like it. Nice. I kind of feel like he won't return to his former self, but if he ever does we've got a major steal. The usual low-risk, small percentage of high-reward accolades unto Hahn.
  18. How quickly some people forget that just a few weeks ago they themselves projected struggles early on as Abreu adjusted. He's still got about two months of grace period before anyone should be getting on him about anything, including defense. He might be a bad defender but every scouting report I've seen had him pegged as decent. It shouldn't be at all surprising if he's below average right now, so let's just all wait until the dust has settled a little bit.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 12:33 AM) Why is that, though? Baseball has become a game where the bullpen is more vital than ever before. Why would the Sox put together such a bad bullpen when the team has improved in many other areas? It's like we want to make sure we lose (for draft picks) but look exciting doing it. Because you don't spend unnecessary resources on parts that won't be there when the winning seasons do arrive, and it's impossible to project a bullpen past one year so why try this year when you project a solely developmental season anyway? Your best bet is to pick up people with little risk and trade the ones that pan out to further increase the talent level of your club in more sustainable ways.
  20. They're not good. That was pretty well known coming in. Nothing to be done about it unless the team is somehow looking like a contender. Almost sweeping the Twins doesn't cut it from my perspective.
  21. Better learn to love this sort of thing, this is exactly how I have the 2014 White Sox earmarked. As long as players develop, this is just the kind of thing we're going to have to live with.
  22. This is like the Washington Generals playing the Washington Generals
  23. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 05:46 PM) Arcia knocks in the go ahead run and does fist pumps while staring into our dugout? What a b****. Kid is getting plunked June 19th
  24. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 05:13 PM) Props to Belisario pointing up in the air at a pop-up that went about 15 rows deep Hey the fans need help finding the ball too
