Again, I don't expect a miracle of the manager who has to operate within this mess. What I do want to see is a team that is smarter and plays cleaner baseball than we have for years. Some semblance of baseball IQ, especially from the homegrown guys would be amazing to see for once.

Trying to argue that something that has literally never happened in the 125 year year history of major league baseball isn't a big deal is one helluva of a flex, just because someone else came close, but still failed to achieve it. It's like saying that being the first consensus hall of famer didn't matter for didn't matter for Mariano Rivera because Jeter was one vote away from doing it previously.

For this purpose, I would imagine this is the correct methodology. I think you guys are talking past each other here calculating the same thing two different ways.

I think the question is where does this count day one. For example is calling someone up on the 10th count as 2 days on the 11th because they were on the active roster for two distinct days, or are you doing it as 11-10 = 1 and coming up with 1.

Because he would take up a roster spot over the winter, when he may not effectively pitch again until 2027, with a late spring 2025 surgery. The 2025 season is 100% gone. If he has an 18 month recovery, instead of a 12, he also misses the entire 2026 season, and then you again have to decide how to roster him over that winter without him throwing a pitch in a live baseball situation since 2024.

Ugh, hate to see Carela go, but this is what the roster management combined with 6 TJSs does to you. Hopefully he got a nice injury settlement and we can get him back.
