  1. The Astros might have a need, but I also see them as the least likely team to pay up based on how they value players.
  2. Also worth noting is that Singer is no where on that list.
  3. Wow, they really love Madrigal.
  4. A 15% walk rate would put him at 90 walks in 600 PAs. The 8 guys who walked 90+ times last year read as a good chunk of the all-star game in Votto, Judge, Matt Carpenter, Ed Encarnacion, Kris Bryant, Goldschimit, Trout and Rizzo. The lowest OPS out of that whole bunch was .835 from Carpenter. Collins is going to have to hit a ton to get that kind of respect to pitchers to allow him to talk at a 15% rate.
  5. Cedeno was a 31 year old free agent who pitched all of 3 innings last year. He also already has about 4 1/3 years of experience at the major league level so if he had played 2/3 of a season with the big league club, he would have been a 2nd year arb guy, so his cheap years are gone. Gomez was a 30 year old who also could not find a major league deal this winter and was really bad at the major league level his last two years, and would qualify for free agency with 26 days on the roster. I mean sure they could have built value, but realistically, they would have had to make the major league roster out of spring training to really do so to prove to teams that they could do it for 3 or 4 months. In a call up today they have about 8 weeks to prove that, which is probably too narrow of a window. Maybe you get something for them, but this is not a Tommy Kahnle situation where he was still a full season away from arbitration for the first time. Neither player is that young either to where teams can see some upside, nor are they getting the cheap years.
  6. This post stinks.
  7. Realistically, this is true. Even if called up today, they would have such as short period of time between now and the deadline, that it would be nearly impossible for them to establish value.
  8. So which to relievers do you move down? Don't forget we are making roster spots very soon for Rodon and probably Kopech, with Hector Santiago dropping from the rotation to the pen in all likelihood.
  9. The back absolutely had an impact on his play, and cost him nearly two months of play at a minimum, and probably more than that it his level of performance. I wouldn't call him special, but he has shown he can play at the major league level when healthy. In 2016 he put up an OPS+ of 98 with the bat, and a positive dWAR for a total fWAR of 1.2.
  10. yeah, between that and the huge questions about what kind of hitter is even if he comes back healthy, we are getting nothing of substance for Avi Garcia.
  11. When you have 108 years looming over your head, you don't get to say "next year" as if you are the Yankees. The Chapman trade won them the World Series. Is isn't usually easy to be that specific, but his work down the stretch and in the playoffs was quite literally the piece that put them over the top. The Cubs do not win the World Series without Aroldis Chapman. So while you can debate if with guys like Torres and Eloy do they win it a different year, I think you can make a real argument that if the Chapman deal isn't made, the Cubs never win a World Series in this stretch. That has to be the basis of any "worth it" type of argument. Would it be worth holding on to those guys if you never win the big one?
  12. There is a level here that you really want to see. Yes, I want to see both Lucas and Carson learning at the major league level because their talent level is going to be too much for a lot of AAA. But when you get to the point where you aren't just struggling, but are fighting to get two innings in, that just destroys everyone else's jobs on the pitching staff and puts stress into the pen that they don't need. If you are going to be here, you need to be going at least 5 innings in almost every start. Otherwise the damage to the team is just too great, and you are pulling everyone else down with you.
  13. Two reasons. They needed roster space, and they have Anderson, Moncada, Garcia, and Sanchez at the major league level up the middle giving them a lot of quality depth.
  14. When it comes to Avi, think Dan Jennings valuation.
  15. The age question is a vast oversimplification. Not all 33 year olds were created equal. The reason most players are gone by that age is because they never were good to begin with. How many players out there are putting up an OPS+ of 149 right now, and 142 for their careers? I can tell you that as of today Jose Abreu is 17th in all of baseball in OPS. If you figure 14 hitters per roster and 30 teams out there that puts about 420 major league hitters out there. Average that out and guess where Jose Abreu is? The top 4% of hitters in MLB today. He has talent that very few in MLB have. He has a skill set that will age well because he is a hitter first, who happens to have a lot of power. There are many examples of his type of players doing exactly that. Even if he deteriorates from his career average of 3.7 fWAR per season, down to the 2 WAR per season range, he is still putting up numbers that are right at what he is going to be getting paid in those season JUST from a statistical standpoint, and not factoring in what he means off of the field to the young players. The average value of a point of WAR for 2017 was $10.5 million.
  16. Just like last time Yoan slumped this year, I am still buying.
  17. So a majority of the guys are at least 10% above league average? Add to that where Abreu is now, and that makes me feel better, not worse.
  18. He didn't play a full season last year.
  19. That's exactly what Palka and Skole are.
  20. Step 6: Delete your account.
  21. Lmao. This coming from the guy who was upset we weren't taking pitches instead of scoring runs.
  22. This is their 5th best catcher.
