  3. It is tough to blame this all or even mostly on coaching. This roster lacks premium talent, and they completely lack depth. If everything went right and no one at the top of the roster got hurt, it was a borderline playoff team. But with any injuries to key guys, this roster was f***ed. They need players and they need stars badly.
  4. Zero chance at the playoffs.

  6. Hold on to Fox for the season, try to tank this to get the highest pick possible. There is no good reason to try to win games the rest of this season.
  7. X the Bears out of the playoff hunt.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) When does he get posted again? I believe it was December 5th, assuming the posting system is approved by MLB owners.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 10:21 PM) I think it's the exact opposite, there's little upside to keeping him. If he repeats 2017, then if you want to sign him next offseason it'll be a 9 figure deal because that's what he'll get a year later. If he repeats 2017, then if you wait until next offseason, you're trading him with only 1 year left before FA so "you're not getting anything significant anyway" since he'll only be available for a year And he'll be hitting Free Agency at the same time as all the other teams are spending their offseasons going after guys who are substantially better. The only way this works that things give greater value is he comes out on a tear for the first half and you can move him at the deadline, but the downside risk is BABIP related. If he does everything right and gets slightly unlucky for the first 200 PAs, then he's worthless and costly and that's basically a coin flip. If you can get anything of tolerable value for him now, take it. The problem is that teams have the same disincentives to trade for the guy.
  10. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) If he does, that's something the White Sox can offer that a contender can't. Eh. If that is what it takes to get him, teams are going to bend over backwards to promise whatever it takes to get him. If the choice is moving someone else and or not getting him, teams will make space for him.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 06:41 AM) So the bulls lost by like 50 and Jordan Bell spent the whole post game embarrassing the bulls. Kerr seemed happy to take part. Things are going really well. I flipped over to that for about 30 seconds to see what was going on. GS was even missing Durant and Green. Damn. Bulls gonna Bulls.
  12. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) We shouldn't minimize the prospect of having both Avi and Abreu through 2020. Two of the next 3 years could well be seasons, in which the Sox make it to the Post Season. I've said it before but, a lineup featuring Moncada, Avi, Eloy, Abreu and one solid left handed bat, sandwiched in between the 3 right handed hitters, could be a very potent offense, irrespective of what the other half of the lineup includes, which should be pretty decent, given all of the young talent. I think that the first option should be to explore the cost of extending both of them. If they want too much money, keep them until they reach free agency and access the team's needs, at that time. If we trade both of these guys, it is pretty well sealed that we are looking at 2020 or 2021 to make the playoffs.
  13. Kill the happy crap now, it is time to get violent for black friday.
  14. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 23, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) I'm pretty sure we can only go to $300k. I think it was Callis who corrected himself and said only $300k, so only $100k against our pool. I was really hoping it was going to be $500k but I'm pretty sure its not. I also believe this is correct. The 1st 200k doesn't count against the caps, but the penalty phase restrictions do still stand. A team that is in the penalty box can't go over $300k.
  15. The Hawks might have missed five open nets last night. It was pretty surreal.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 06:40 PM) Good post man, really good post. Just look at the Luis Robert threads before the Sox signed him. Many of us knew back then that if the Sox signed Robert, it would put the Sox out-of the running for Ohtani. If the Sox passed on Robert to go after Ohtani and failed to land Ohtani, the Sox end up with nothing. So the Sox chose to go after Robert and used a video with appearance's from Abreu and Moncada to entice him to sign with the Sox. It worked and was the wise thing to do. The Sox have much more history with Latin American players than they do with Japanese players so Robert was the logical choice. It really was a no-brainer. Well no, not exactly. They would have had two years worth of signings under the new system which is going to allow for the players to be more spread out amongst the teams by not allowing teams to blow away the caps.
  17. A person working on Thanksgiving Eve sucks almost as much as the drive home afterwards.
  18. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) Sure would have been nice for him to expound upon that statement. Typically that means west coast over east coast for Japanese players.
