Quintana
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 02:04 PM) Brinson is likely considered untouchable, and the Brewers are likely looking to see if the Sox/A's will accept some of their second tier prospects in exchange for Gray/Quintana (Sox/A's will not) I don't know that a deal gets done without Brinson unless they want to send us like 5 guys.

Todd and Melky
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) Yeah I don't think they will get a significant piece back but to say he has no value seems odd. I think the Carlos Gomez comp is on shaky ground. The huge difference here is that Carlos Gomez was a stud CF who could go get the ball and help the rest of your defense. As a LF, Melky Cabrera is a good DH. Gomez will also go steal you a base. Melky once he gets on base will applaud for himself.

Todd and Melky
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) No rumor or anything but just a solid read I came across. May piss off some people on this site (well, just Greg). https://theloopsports.com/2017/07/05/melky-...ed-trade-piece/ Seems like pretty high returns for Melky to me.

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) I think the Bulls lost interest in him when they decided to rebuild. That said, Jerry West is a good eye for talent so the fact that he signed him bodes well for the Bulls overall interest in him, imo. Honestly, I am getting more mad about our decision to rebuild. Look at these contracts and recognize how much of a value proposition Butler was. That said, only the Bulls know how he was in the lockeroom and if he truly was a disaster, then I kind of understand. All I see is a sad attempt to not have to pay him the new super-max contract after next year.

Quintana
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) Why would the White Sox or Brewers trade or trade for four outfield prospects? Especially since they also have some nice IF guys in Isan Diaz and Lucas Erceg that would look really good in our system.

7-6 Games
QUOTE (Donaldo @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) Another homer for Adolfo. As of now, Micker is 4th in his league in HR and 5th in RBI. He is also tied for the league lead in doubles with 24. Also worth noting is 7th in HBP with 10, 16th in Hits with 78, 16th in OBP, 16th in SLG, 18th in PA, and 3rd in K's.

League Wide Speculation
Quintana makes a whole of sense for just about any team. Not only are you getting a front line pitcher, you are getting one who is young, affordable, and signed for a number of years. If a team is going to buy big, he is a guy to do it for.

Quintana
The one thing worth noting is that Milwaukee's AAA team plays in Colorado, which means there are going to be a lot of altitude driven stats.

Attendance is Actually up 8.1%
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 11:52 PM) Lol - "glory of the game by itself". That's beautiful. Is that what White Sox fans should grasp onto AND have been content with these past 12 years since 2005? Forget the "WAHHHHHHHH - I don't wanna be reminded of the owner's 40 years of futility!" facts. Let the "glory of the game by itself" flags fly over Guaranteed Excuse Field these days and damn anyone who dare criticize the horrific rate of winning that has occurred within. That's the approach less-than-serious fans seem very content with taking, which is fine. Have at it. If the one playoff series with its lonely one win brought to you by this owner and his management team these past 12 years is good enough for you, then just say so. Go ahead, exclaim your satisfaction with that (seemingly less-than-desirable) record of achievement. In the meantime, let the more serious bunch amongst us who expect a tad bit more than that share our views as well, without being subjected to the unnecessary and really very lame insults along the way. Look, you can be as bitter as you want. Obviously I can't do anything about that, since you have quite literally been holding this grudge for decades. What would be nice is if you actually quit trying to ruin it for everyone in every single thread where ownership is discussed, or even hinted at. The level of obsession is obvious, and rather sad to be honest. It would also be nice that if you truly meant you didn't want to see insults, that you would actually stop insulting everyone who isn't as bitter and angry about nothing as you are. Go buy a dog, get a new hobby. Obviously you get no joy from baseball. You are 100% doing this wrong. This is supposed to be a release, not a point of anger.

Cafardo: Cardinals interested in Avi
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 11:11 PM) Weird post to respond to with a freakout. He is 2 for 31 and you'd think the law of averages would prevent such a slide at this point in the season from a .345 hitter, BABIP be damned. I am an Avi supporter by and large. Weird response from you. I wonder how many people out of a 100 know how an average works?

Robertson reinstated, Ynoa DFA'd
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 12:16 AM) Thank you. Ynoa has talent but right now, he sucks. They may lose him to a non-contender, like the Phillies, but it happens. If the Nationals claimed Ynoa thinking he will fix their bullpen woes, I'd be surprised. If they claim him and he DOES fix their bullpen woes, I'll buy everyone beef sandwiches from Portillos. BP mid-season top 50
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) Of course that's only if he turns out to be the absolute elite. What if he turns out to be a really good reliever- say David Robertson. I guess we'll found out soon enough what the flip value is. A really good position player or starter is simply worth more. And, obviously an elite starter or position player is worth a lot more than an elite reliever. David Robertson is a $48 million player. If you can get a guy at $500,000 to do the same thing, that is a huge win.

BP mid-season top 50
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 07:36 PM) To me it's a market inefficiency. Teams are paying ridiculous prices for elite high leverage relievers, yet a guy like Burdi who has that kind of upside and is nearly major league ready is considered a reach at the end of the 1st round by many and is regularly excluded from top 100 lists. We're talking about a guy who if all goes well could conceivably land an Andrew Miller type return in just a few years, while other potential guys at that spot could very still be in the minors. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't waste an early pick on just any reliever, but I think a guy like Burdi is well worth it. A guy like Burdi is absolutely a moneyball play.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) Rick Hahn has the best job in America by far. So for about five years he can put the worst team imaginable on the field (LOL, cringe worthy rotation of Pelphrey, Miguel G, Holland, Shields) and be lauded and loved for it. "Good job Rick," Reinsdorf will say after the season, "you are doing a good job of losing and getting us top draft picks. Hope you can keep acquiring horrible players so we can lose even more games." Then in the meantime he trades the few good older players we have. Real difficult. Anybody could sit in an office and trade Eaton or Sale or Robertson or Q. Oh wait ... he hasn't even traded Robertson or Q yet in the supposed rebuild. So in conclusion, what a great great job Hahn has: Lose as many games as possible with the worst players you can assemble while working on trades that anybody could execute. Obviously Boston wanted Sale. So you get a list of their best position player hitting prospect, Moncada, real difficult to pull off. Sign a top guy like Robert. Everybody wanted him. Real difficult to pull off. Hahn can enjoy 4-5 more seasons of horrid baseball and be praised for it, cause it gets us a good draft pick. I hope Hahn is enjoying his easy high paying job, putting a loser on the field and fans not being mad but saying, "PLEASE LOSE MORE!" As opposed to making the worst possible posts for years...

Attendance is Actually up 8.1%
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 06:02 PM) Lol - that's because we the fans end up in exact same spot each year, which is summer after summer of meaningless baseball. Fix that, and the "speeches" will change faster than Grant took Richmond. They won't. If you can't find happiness in 40 years of baseball, there is no amount of winning that will change that. Some people need a bandwagon, others can handle the glory of the game by itself.

Can Illinois Survive?
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) In terms of per capita spending, Illinois is 37th. In recent surveys, most Illinoisans want the problem solved mainly by cuts, but they don't actually want any specific programs, services, pensions or payments cut by pretty decent margins. Illinois government is that Skinner/Krabappel argument over school funding forever What is interesting here is that the states budgets can be found all broken out by category. Illinois trails the national averages by large amounts in areas such as lower education, higher education, medicare/cade, corrections, and transportation. They are second in the entire country on spending for "other". Not quite sure what that is exactly, and while I have my guesses, that 43.7% of the budget going to "other" (compared to 22.7 IN, 28.8 MI, 32.4 OH, and 40.8 WI) is only averaging 26.5% in the rest of the nation. In Illinois you have nearly twice (as a percentage of the state budget) as much money going to things that aren't schools, roads, poor services, jails etc that most people expect from their state. That is how you are low in per capita, but still not getting anything to your residents when compared to surrounding states.

BP mid-season top 50
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 04:18 PM) If he becomes an elite reliever, he'll likely be worth much more in trade than whomever we wouldn't have drafted instead. I'm still more than ok with the pick. Burdi is so far ahead of where he should be in the minors right now, it isn't even funny. The Sox need to just leave him alone in AAA, and even if it takes a couple of years for him to catch up, so be it. It is also worth pointing out that with the increase in the value of a reliever, the old thinking about drafting relievers probably needs to start to change. They have WAY more value than they did 10, heck even 5 years ago.

BP mid-season top 50
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) Yeah, I'm thrilled with the progress as well, but he still has work to do in the plate discipline department before he enters top 100 territory. But even with moderate gains in that area, he'll be on these lists in no time. And quite frankly, given his overall rawness, I wouldn't be surprised to see a massive leap at some point. The leap he made this year with just being healthy is impressive. Sounds like he is more confident, and the game is coming to him a bit. As young as he is, I think a big leap is a realistic hope.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) The bigger concern is NK selling advanced nukes to rogue groups/terrorists. They don't have the tech yet, but they will eventually. Sanctions haven't work. Global intervention hasn't worked. This faux show of military force hasn't worked. We just need to make a decision - are we cool with NK getting that technology or not? If not, there are difficult decisions to be made that would include military intervention. What we have been doing hasn't worked at all. It has still allowed them to keep advancing all of their weapons programs, including their nuclear one. It has been a joke.

BP mid-season top 50
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 03:36 PM) Pitching obviously looks good with three top 50 guys, a guy who probably just missed in Lopez, & another guy who should be in the 75 to 100 range bare minimum. And that doesn't include a bunch of other guys in the 100 to 200 range in Fulmer, Burdi, Adams, Guerrero, Stephens, & Flores. Moncada is obviously awesome, but we desperately need to add more on the positional side. Robert should be a top 50 prospect too, but after that it's really only Collins who is likely to crack 100 lists. Would have been nice if someone had a breakout performance and snagged a spot on these lists. My guess is Adolfo doesn't make the cut despite what should be considered a promising season. While I don't think that Micker belongs on any top 100 list yet, I am very curious what the prognosticators are seeing this year in regards to the progress he has made this season so far. The power has definitely come around, the K numbers are down, and he seems to be making better contact. While he still has plenty of room to work, I am thrilled with the progress and his health so far this year.
