QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 25, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) I'm looking pretty hard right now, I've been struggling with my leadership for a couple years but was hopeful I could transition elsewhere in IT under leaders who could develop me/offer leadership opportunities. It hasn't happened, and I just had a sit down with my supervisor where I asked for more responsibility/title as a team lead under him as someone else in IT got a similar title. It wouldn't require any direct reports and I said I didn't expect any raise for it, it would just be focused on giving me a more clear path on getting into leadership. Their answer was a blunt no (and my reviews/HR standing/9 box crap are all stellar). Pretty much I took it as a message of where my leadership actually views me. I'd take that as a sign too.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 25, 2017 -> 11:20 AM) It also happened ~12 hours before the polls opened but also after several hundred thousand mail-in ballots had already been cast. It's the edge case of "what if something dramatic happens at the last minute??" some people use to argue against early voting/mail voting. it is also why Pols want you to vote early. No chance at an 11th hour scandal taking you down.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 25, 2017 -> 11:22 AM) Salman Abedi: How Manchester attacker turned from cannabis-smoking dropout to Isis suicide bomber This just in, pot-smoking causes terrorism.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 25, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) I haven't seen them do it this year, so it may be gone, but last year they played a game in between innings where you go up against a player and list as many vegetables or cereal, or ice cream flavors you could in 30 seconds. There is no way Caulfield would lose unless he got caught up in a tangent halfway through. It is not "if". It is how many.
  6. I have seen various interviews over the years from JR that he really thinks MJ would have had a big breakout season the next year if the strike hadn't happened. He talked about the progress he had made, and how he was starting to get it.
  7. QUOTE (heirdog @ May 25, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) Or potential Mods that were passed up that could be Mods. Lol Or players from the 1990's that would have made great mods.
  8. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 24, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) statistics... are just.... statistics.... conservativism in a nutshell: rely on personal small sample experience and deny the relevance of broad, large sample statistical analysis. unreal. I assume you're not a moneyball guy either, are ya SS? You must be an "eye-test" and "good face" kind of guy. I am not the type of person to speak on this from my ivory tower on the subject. There is nothing of which you speak out there. There are people who have interpreted certain statistics in the way your preconceived notions buy into, and that is the extent of it. Understanding statistics and their proper usage is actually more important than the raw data. Stats can be made to say whatever you want them to say, and for some reason you want them to assuage your guilt. Maybe your guilt would be better served by getting to know the people who you look down on.
  9. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 24, 2017 -> 09:37 PM) Yes. Statistics can be manipulated and framed to fit a certain argument or perspective - absolutely. They're flawed. Throwing out statistics and relying solely on personal experience is also extremely flawed, and there's a reason the scientific method doesn't rely on one person's personal experience when establishing scientific consensus. Anyway. Let's let this die. He thinks I'm misusing statistics. I think he's biased based on his political leanings and the bubble of his personal experience. Neither one of us is changing our minds about that. Unless you are claiming the scientific method has figured out racism in society, you are relying on one person's lack of personal experience to explain something you haven't experienced.
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ May 25, 2017 -> 09:16 AM) Easy to say the Sox should have traded Q last winter but what exactly were the players offered for Q? We don't know, just the reported rumors and that's all. Hard to play hindsight without knowing what exactly has been passed up. Let's say the Sox hold onto Q. MiGo, Holland and Pelfrey will be gone and with any luck so will Covey. Giolito obviously needs more time so we're currently looking at a 2018 rotation of Q, Shields, Rodon, Lopez and Fulmer with Giolito as #6 on the depth chart. Given the struggles Giolito has had and that Kopech needs all of this season and the next to build up innings, having Q around for another year doesn't sound so bad. I won't complain if the Sox have Q in their rotation next year. Could end up a blessing. The Houston offer that slipped out was pretty lackluster. If that was typical of what was offered, I take the risk of bringing back Q as well.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 25, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) With the Cubs, he also was criticized with the way he ran the bullpen. He has had a couple of questionable decisions, but so far he's been OK there. Of course when the bullpen is getting guys out, you will always look good. He's certainly not some guru, but the players seem to like him, so he'll be OK. If the White Sox ever get to where they want to be, they won't have many guys in the line up where bunting is even a thought. That may be why he is so bunt happy now. We'll see. As it has been for years, I think the pen and pitching usage is pretty much up to Cooper.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 25, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) They could call up Lopez tomorrow as the 26th man, send him back down, and call him back up next Wednesday for good (no 10 day return rule with the 26th man). By next Wednesday, the Sox will have gained the extra year of control. Sunday is the cutoff day, it becomes Monday if he spends Friday on the roster. Who is on schedule to pitch then?
  13. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 24, 2017 -> 11:46 PM) Are they going to put him on the DL I would bet the odds of that are pretty high. It might not be announced until the day his slot is due to start again because of service time considerations.
  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 25, 2017 -> 12:18 AM) Quintana is proving this year that you can't win in speculating baseball... ever. Except the Sox did exactly that by waiting to trading Sale and Eaton in the off season, instead of last deadline.
  15. QUOTE (daggins @ May 24, 2017 -> 05:57 PM) "Full price" doesn't exist. His value decreases every day he is on this team. Which is why his poor start is doubly unfortunate - even if he has a terrific ROS, his value this winter is much less than it was last winter, and will be even less at the deadline next year. The Sox won't be inclined to trade him if he isn't pitching well, so they will just keep decreasing his value. Instead you get his production.
  16. QUOTE (daggins @ May 24, 2017 -> 05:25 PM) They just have to adjust what they expect in return. I agree it doesn't make sense to keep him around, but they have to give him another season to rebuild value, like with Robertson. Maybe he gets hot at the end of this year and finishes with nearly normal Q numbers. In that case, they will get less, but not a lot less. If he doesn't rebound before the deadline next year, they are in real trouble, and the rebuild could lengthen considerably. No. If you don't get full price, you sit on him.
  17. Christopher Kamka‏ @ckamka 19m19 minutes ago Most road HR this season 10 José Abreu #WhiteSox 9 Freddie Freeman #Braves 8 Murphy WSH, Myers SD, Perez KC, Sanó MIN, Zimmerman WSH
  18. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 24, 2017 -> 04:48 PM) And you're relying on extremely limited and biased personal experience, regardless of the statistical realities in this country. So there, let's just discount both of our opinions as meaningless, and let others draw the conclusions they wish to draw through their own research, should they feel compelled to do it. Except the statistics are just that, statistics. It is what they are being made into that is the problem.
  19. At least Abreu is staying hot.
  20. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) And I feel exactly the same way about you. Your opinion about the issue is so wrapped up in ignorance and a refusal to recognize that if you take a black person and white person with exactly the same qualifications, or having committed exactly the same crime, the white person will almost always get the job/loan/lesser sentence/etc. The white person will almost always win out over the black/minority person. That is borne out in statistic after statistic, which you can poo poo all you want because of your "personal experience", but personal experience means exactly jack s*** compared to statistical fact. You're succumbing to an N=1 fallacy and yet you cling to it and let it inform your every belief in life. That's what all conservatives do. I guess I can't blame you, but I don't respect your opinion for that reason. You aren't relying on fact. You are relying on feeling and emotions and trying to make your stats fit it. This is why the goalposts of what you are talking about keeps changing in your "facts".
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Ugh, for real? Absolutely. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/115853014/ev...t-service-time/
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) If he comes back ok, I don't really mind...preserving service time for more important times... Rodon still accrues service time by being on a major league DL.
  23. Daryl Van Schouwen‏Verified account @CST_soxvan 9m9 minutes ago Single and double for Jose Abreu, who is hitting everything hard these days. He's 15-for-39 (.385) with four homers on the road trip.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) Quick cut the taxes for the rich. One thing I don't get is if cutting taxes is just going to be passed on to the working class, why is the right so opposed to raising the minimum wage? Pass the tax savings on to your workers, no? Letting people keep money they already had vs taking money from someone else
  25. Colleen Kane‏ @ChiTribKane 1h1 hour ago James Shields threw a 30-pitch bullpen today. Another bullpen scheduled for Friday and a three-inning simulation on Monday.
