  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) if the unions had so much power they would have been able to get card check at least to a vote with a huge democratic congress. Because if they aren't guilty they have nothing to hide?
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 10:08 AM) You know exactly why that isn't happening - the auto companies aren't making billions in profits. Deep pockets, and further more, protecting the auto industry means protecting jobs. Most of the large financials are making money and not laying anyone off now, so its safe to raid them for the money. If GM suddenly was making big bucks this year, they'd be in the discussion too. Please. There is a reason that isn't happening, and it has nothing to do with that. Its the same reason they seem to be exempt from all of the "too big to fail" crap. No one is talking about breaking up the auto companies either.
  3. QUOTE (Drew @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 07:24 PM) Usually on a National broadcast, the announcers defer to the team with the better record, but those mouth-breathers were rooting for Detroit the whole game. Listen to how they called the fight between Eaves and Versteeg, listen to how they called the goals for Detroit compared to the Blackhawks. And I only have Internet, where the radio stream is about :30 behind the video, which means I can't do what I did as a kid and listen to the radio with the TV sound off. But yes, it was a great game. Best thing of all? If you ask me, I think we've found our big-game goalie. I do have to say that both of the Detroit SO goals were just awesome moves.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) Just like he did before his ROY season. He's a joke. I just hope they pay him a lot of money...
  5. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) Wouldn´t he have better potential at long relief if he did well in Charlotte? Then I could see making a case for Coop working with but only if he is productive in AAA. Not sayin he is a bust already but pretty close. I could see them trying to work him in as a reliever.
  6. 72 points, #1 in the NHL!!!
  7. What an OT! Let's get this extra point boys!!!
  8. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 05:25 AM) Scouting report (Recent) from SB Nation: Scouting Report Assets * Owns a huge frame with great reach that makes him seem to tower over hitters. Owns a nasty fastball and slider, both with good movement. Can be simply dominant when he gets rolling. Flaws * As wild and inconsistent as they come. Sometimes totally loses the strike zone. High walk totals hurt him. Can lose focus with both hitters and base-runners. Career Potential * An ace-level arm but a back-of-rotation producer. Not as promising as I had hoped because every reference to potential looks at that horrendous WHIP ratio. Must be a duplicate headcase like Zambrano but without the attitude. I mean when he loses it he really loses it. Oh well so much for some initial "Reclamation Project off the Scrap Heap" excitement. But who knows. For around 400K you can let him go as has everyone else. Late post- is anyone on the forum aware of any recent "Pitcher Reclamation Projects" who suffered extreme wildness but were tweaked by a new coach and wound up developing some level of control?? Jose "wild pitch" Contreras
  9. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 10:23 AM) I really hope Niemi is in net Tuesday as well as today. Huet was awful against Minnesota, good against Columbus, and then awful against Columbus. I want to see Niemi get more PT. As the Hawks play a ton of back to backs before the Olympics, you will see a lot more of Neimi.
  10. Ah I totally forgot about Danks...
  11. That is pretty much in line with what was expected for both of them. Glad it is done, and again no arbit trips for the Sox.
  12. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) Nothing like exempting unions from paying thier fair share when they try and tax 'Cadilac' plans. WHy don't they just come out and change it to 'all Democrats are exempt from paying anything more for the first five years'. http://tinyurl.com/ygmg24h I'm still waiting for the automotive tax to recoup the losses from the irresponsible auto companies bailout losses...
  13. THe Hawks defense has been awful for the first half of this game. Wide open guys all over the place, bad turnovers, and guys out of position.
  14. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 01:37 PM) What are some real ideas for outdoor games bewteen 17-24 year olds? I'm 20 years old and me and my friend picked up the frisbee the other day and we've been going nuts over it. We've been getting games everyday 3on3 of some ultimate frisbee, got me thinking of other games people would play. I was thinking of Capture the flag, but thats a little kiddie, hard to get another 20 year old to want to play that game.... Anyone have some ideas for us ? . Frisbee golf is a nice one if your friends aren't in great shape.
  15. I don't think anyone out there has high expectations for 2010.
  16. Where is the "Tex is bored and looking to stir things up" box?
  17. You mean you violate the rights of people who don't want to be forced to pledge?
  18. That sounds great on paper, except if you go in without a plan in a situation like this you could cause food riots, looting, and all kinds of other problems. When you are dealing with something the scope of what we are talking about, it has to take a large contingent working in unison to keep order over a process that could very easily deteriorate because of the sheer desperation of the people who are trying to get help.
  19. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) Do the Cubs have even one good young major league level player? Randy Wells and Soto and maybe that's it? Soto only depending on a bounceback year And Wells avoiding a sophomore slump...
  20. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) Should we bring in Mike Sherman so we can have former head coaches of every NFC North team? If we are going to do that, could we get Mike Holmgren instead?
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 01:41 AM) s***, jokes on him, he plays in Kansas City. the only good piece of meat he gets there is BBQ...
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 07:56 AM) you guys with your "Im gonna...." and "last straw" sayings about Vizquel DHing crack me up I'm gonna wait until Vizquel gets a start at DH and all of these last straw statements end up being BS before I crack up...
  23. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 09:15 PM) What I read was, he doesn't have a non-compete clause, but the sooner he starts another show, the less money NBC would owe him. EDIT: As Ni just posted a minute before I did. Sounds like he is getting what happens with a contract in sports. After they are cut, whoever picks them up, pays the money the first team would have been paying.
  24. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) Funded by US military (defense spending) or UN? I happen to agree with you, but I guess my point is, these disasters happen all the time, and there's no single resource that can handle it the right way. So, our military gets bogged down in what I don't think they belong in - the point being there that they are not as efficient at this as they would otherwise be if there were a specialized group that did this. Like I said, it's just a thought. You're right, on its own, it would never fly, but shouldn't it? Do you think people would "sign up" for this type of branch over the traditional military? Honestly, I think the PR from a situation like this makes it totally worthwhile for the US to lead missions like this.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) Agreed. It's actually a good thing, because I don't think the Sox have ever been that good when Buehrle has been the #1 starter come postseason time. He was the best pitcher during the entire 2005 season, but Contreras was the unquestioned ace of that staff when the playoffs came around. Its not a bad thing at all. I think both can control their egos enough ( I KNOW Mark can, Peavy seems like he would be OK with a chance to win) that it doesn't really matter.
