  1. Interesting. I am not surprised to see Fields out the door so quickly, but I am shocked to see Getz gone. Teahen is a nice add for us.
  2. Sorta like your fat ugly sister who gets botox, a tummy tuck, breast enlargements, and an ass lift.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 01:05 AM) I'm about to opt out of my verizon contract. There's a report that on Nov. 15th Verizon will be making contract cancellations $350 instead of $175. You are bound to whatever contract you signed. If they raise rates, it will be on people signing new contracts.
  4. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 08:14 AM) Trib "In a dramatic turn of events, a Cook County Circuit Court judge halted Illinois' parental notification law on abortion just hours after a state agency gave it the all-clear. Judge Daniel Riley granted a temporary restraining order sought by the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois in the late afternoon, hours after Illinois' medical disciplinary board decided the state could begin enforcing the law. It requires physicians to notify parents or guardians when those 17 or younger seek abortions. Unbelievable. The rights of the parents be damned...
  5. QUOTE (WCSox @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 11:56 PM) If I were Danks, I'd definitely be trying to get a deal done this winter. He's had back-to-back rock-solid seasons and his value is higher now than it's ever been. Plus, as you alluded to, pitchers are so susceptible to arm injuries that holding out until free agency to make that big mega-contract is incredibly risky. On the other side of that coin, Danks may never see a worse market for contracts than the one he is looking at right now.
  6. Happy Birthday YAS!!!
  7. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) Also, as I discussed with a mod, I have a real good source that says Pods is not a good team guy and many of the guys from the '05 team aren't really fond of him. That actually isn't much of a secret. Pods has always been obsessed with not getting sent back to the minors. He was in the TCQ school of intensity and self. Supposedly he has relaxed a ton and has been a much more likable guy this time around.
  8. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 08:19 PM) Andrew Ladd is a completely interchangeable piece on this team, Steeger has some special abilities... I agree with you 100% you are still pissed Havlat is gone... Hater.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 10:27 PM) Again, that's fine. But the system is in place now. The Yankees make a s***load of loot and put it right back into the team. Isn't that what any fan of any team would want? Actually the probably don't. I would bet they are the most profitable franchise in American sports right now.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) And the Yankees should care about that why? Would you care if the White Sox were the ones with the 200+ million dollar payroll? I don't have a problem with the Yankees. My beef is with baseball (I.E. we need a cap). The Yankees don't care about that, but about 29 other teams do. That is the entire point.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) All that's fine. But with all the whining about their payroll (not singling you out. I'm talking everybody in general), you would think they were going on their 9th straight title. I just find it annoying to continually complain about their payroll. They do what they do because they can. It's not against the rules. How many times just on this board has KW been referred to as 'cheap'? Yet we all hate the Yankees because they spend more than everybody else. You do realize that the Yankees resetting the curve for salaries has an adverse affect on the rest of baseball as they try to figure out how to keep up, and lose their players in the meantime, right?
  12. Just do it.
  13. Well that isn't how you want it to start...
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) Do we really think D1 won't be earning that $ at that point anyway? The other option is for him to be gone. I would guess he is going to be just fine. I was just making the point that it won't be at $6 million for each year. It is going to be cheap up front, and expensive at the end.
  15. Tell them you have the other one in the works. Also tell this group they are your first choice, so that you can move them along.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) California made huge spending cutbacks at the state level already. It turned out that it did exactly what you'd expect; they cut an awful lot of jobs, gave people furloughs and pay cuts, that wound up causing more people to lose jobs because people weren't spending money, and thus pushed California's tax receipts even lower. Quite literally it is the exact opposite of a stimulus. Well that, and the largest recession in like 80 years. All states have had huge cuts in their tax receipts. Its not like California is on an island there.
  17. Hell, it should have slowed you down!
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) As many of those cutbacks as they made, it hardly made a dent in the grand scheme of things considering how far in deficit they are. I cannot tell you how much I hate this line of thinking. You don't have enough money, so why cut if it is going to be enough to plug the entire deficit. That is so counter to common sense, I don't know what else to say here. Its like thinking that you are unemployed, so you have to hurry up and spend all of your money, because you aren't going to have any soon anyway.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) That's really not a bad contract. Obviously the length is concerning if he ever suffers injuries but even then at $6M per year that's hardly crippling Except it won't be. The end years will be over 10 million.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) Don't put me in the ABBA group. I just know lots of people like their music. I bet you were first in line for the premier of Momma Mia
  21. I think you start at the same offer, minus last year obviously, and see if you can add another year on the end as an option again. The numbers will look a lot bigger, but they are the natural progression for his contract status.
  22. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Well I don't think schools have any "right" to punish kids for what they do outside of school. That's just going too far and infringing on their personal lives. Sheesh, there's way too many people who "follow the rules" on this site. Almost everyone's job does the exact same thing.
  23. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) Jobs is one part of the economy. Wages another. Remember Bush playing that game. We lost high dollar jobs and gained low paying service sector jobs. Regardless if it looks good or bad to whomever, whenever you are turning something around, the first order of business is slowing down to a stop, then turning around. But in today's climate it seems to be far more important to make "your party" look good or the "other party" to look bad. Solutions and progress, actual or perceived, be dammed. Its been that way for a while now.
