The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 07:50 AM) Here's a great article: That is the dumbest leap of faith I have seen in a while. You do realize that reporting news doesn't equal what they believe is the biggest threat, right?

Obamistan
QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 07:44 AM) Did we really have to specify "wretched refuse" though? And with the drug traders and human slavers it is bringing in, we are getting exactly that.

Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) I know this will be met with much happiness around here. The Red Wings looked HORRIBLE tonight. How the hell did that team beat the Hawks? They gave up a half-dozen to a Buffalo team that had 4 goals in their first 3 games!

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) Golddigger was a bigger hit. If they are doing it based on sales, Jesus Walks probably wasn't that popular. I'm surprised I didn't see California Love on there with Pac and Dre. I would've put In the Club higher up. How We Do would've made the list by Game. The Block is Hot, which is one of my favorite Wayne hits probably doesn't deserve to be on there. Rapper's Delight should be #1 though. There's not one person I know who doesn't know at least the beginning of the song. Not many people can recite that Public Enemy song, though it is a nice song in it's own right. And I don't remember seeing C.R.E.A.M. on the list by Wu Tang. And it framed the era. PE was a huge song, but it didn't revolutionize anything. I also thought that Mind over Matter should have been the Ice T song in there. It is by far his best one.

KW helps get another Toronto GM fired
QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Don't forget Kevin Towers of San Diego was fired too...wonder if dealing Jake Peavy had anything to do with that? Firing Towers was just dumb. The only thing i could think of is that he feuded with the new ownership about the dumps.

White Sox talk new deal with Scott Podsednik's agent
QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) I think Pods will get 2 years for 6mil ($3mil each season ,with $1mil incentives), w/ an option third year($4 mill, $500,000 buyout). I think we all could live with that. Who in the heck is going to give Scott Podsednik a two year deal, without one of the years involving a team option?

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) Of the supposed 400-500 billion savings from Medicare, how much will actually be saved? Congress has yet to implement previous attempts to save using the same method. And if they do not act where do we make up that 400-500 billion? ANd add to that the fact that the Baucus bill will make insurance MORE expensive as the AHIP report stated. +90 billion= the amount by which the Ways and Means committee underestimated the eventual cost of Medicare. Why is it so hard to realize that costs always out strip savings in any legislation in Washington.... Not to mention that tax increases are being counted as pluses in the budget when any idiot economist knows that health care is going to have a near zero beta. Any tax increases will be passed on in higher costs, which means you are just shifting costs from one source to another. It doesn't make it any cheaper.

Dewayne Wise Declares Free Agency
QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Except for all of the classy folk who booed Wise mercilessly early in the season. I never understood that. It's not Wise's fault that he was in Chicago, rather than Charlotte. Those things are not mutually exclusive. They can boo both Wise and management.

Dewayne Wise Declares Free Agency
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 01:48 PM) b/c it's an example of what i'm talking about. A player is misused by a team, and that player becomes the one who takes the heat. Trust me, Ozzie and Kenny got more heat than Wise did.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) It's amazing that it took all this effort to get one moderate republican to vote for a watered down bill. Its even more amazing the Democrats couldn't hold their own coalition together for one of their pet issues. This could have been done months ago.

Arizona Fall League
QUOTE (scenario @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) He has a good arm. In junior college (and when he started at ASU) he was a pitcher. But his coach at Arizona State said he thought CJ might end up as a catcher if he made it to MLB. Bottom line is the kid is a ballplayer... can play pretty much any position... and did in college. In fact, in one game he both pitched and caught in the same inning. LOL. There is a joke in there somewhere....

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) Just watched Part 2. I was always facinated by this whole thig and back in high school, read a bunch of stuff. There is stuff in Part 2 that I didn't know about. Me neither. How old is that guy? I learned a lot too. It really is interesting how quickly the conspiracy stuff actually started. As for Geraldo, maybe his plastic surgeon can tell us?

Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 11:40 PM) That was quite the game. I missed the 2nd period due to some school stuff but when I checked my phone to see 5-4 with 5 minutes in the 2nd, I was shocked. Overall, I think the the team will be just fine, especially when Hossa returns, but the defenders have been worrisome to me, obviously as well as Huet in goal. I'd gladly deal Barker, one of our young forwards and a prospect for a good defenseman. I like the Keith/Seabrook pairing, and I like Hjalmersson, but Barker and Campbell worry me. Turnovers in our own zone have become a big problem. And how about Kane. Great players make the guys around them better and I don't know if there is a better example of that than Kane and Buff. And finally, paging Mr. Toews. Paging Mr. Toews. Any time you'd like to join the team would be great... Its not November yet...

If I heard the post game show correctly, teams have fallen behind 5 goals 5142 times in NHL history, yesterday was the 5th time a team has rallied from that to win a game.

Capitalism: A Love Story
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) I came up with another response to this while @ the gym. "Really, you're actually going to argue that insurance companies won't take out policies on which they'll lose money? Didn't you already help buy one that did exactly that?" unless you are talking about the federal government compelling me to do something, I am not quite sure what you are talking about.

White Sox players in the Winter Leagues
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 09:44 PM) Probably to still build on his arm strength. He's not quite there yet, and I believe the org. said he has room to increase his velocity a bit more. Exactly. If he is going to be able to expand velocity and innings, he is going to have to throw some innings.
