  1. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 08:58 AM) Don Sutton is in. Tommy John and Bert Blyleven aren't. Those were 3 guys with longevity based statistics. .... Hell add Phil Neikro as being in. So, if Mark hangs around long enough to get close to 300 wins it's a 50-50 chance. If MB can win 300, he is in no doubt. There aren't any pitchers who have won 300 and not made it, right? I don't think Mark sticks around that long. I don't think he needs baseball as much as we need Mark Buehrle.
  2. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Did KW even ever look at Jackson before he was traded? Yes. We offered Jermaine Dye.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) Not a fan of King Julien?? I think his Julien ad libs are the funniest thing he's done by far. Is he still doing the voice in the cartoon series? If so, that is pretty solid.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 12:35 PM) lol @ "today", as if somehow that doesn't apply to the one before him. And the one before him...
  5. Ah, yes, ready to be an instant favorite I was a big fan of the Braves growing up and my favorite player was Chipper Jones. They were always on tv on TBS so I would watch them everyday. I never really started following the Sox until I got drafted by them but I can tell you I already love watching the Cubs lose.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Scotty Bowman is sure getting a lot of credit for shared work done with Murray, Devellano, and Holland. Stan Bowman's getting a lot of credit for being a f*** trophy. Which is still more than Tallon has ever done.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) Just applying your standards. So what contractors, vendors, and customers is Social Security worried about losing?
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 10:57 AM) Southsider after reading most of your posts on this subject I'm having a hard time figuring out your point or what should be done. Actually I'm getting the feeling u don't think there's a problem with the current system at all. The last post was irony. Everyone talks about taking on the big bad drug companies, and yet here they are giving in at the first chance they get.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) When AIG et al. hold their big conferences, we get huge lectures from you folks about how they absolutely need to hold those things, they're a complete necessity to meet with contractors, vendors, people they do business with, etc. Take note of the fact that SSA held this thing in Phoenix in the summer. You know why they might have done that? Because no one in their right mind wants to go to phoenix for a conference in the summer. It's 120 degrees every day. The only reason why you'd go there is that the hotels are really cheap. They paid like $85 a night. The feds have paid retention bonuses to single AIGFP employees that cost more than that conference. And here you are defending it after it attacking it when business did it...
  10. If this isn't talking out of both sides of your mouth I don't know what is... Democrats in Congress are looking to extend the exclusivitity period for name brand drugs from 7 to 12 years... Boy that oughta cuts drug costs http://www.masshightech.com/stories/2009/0...tent-limit.html And why will this pass? http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/14/us/politics/14money.html
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:16 AM) InsideTheSox They often will post lineups hours before game time. I have that one sent to my phone Is that the Reifort feed? He is the best.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) August 1st is tentatively going to be a huge day for FutureSox.com
  13. I can't believe Armstrong made it.
  14. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) That was a pretty common mispronunciation of Comiskey when I was growing up - and he called it Cominsky Field. Ugh. I always hated hearing kids call it Cominskey. It's like shopping at "Jewels". Yeah, that is totally authentic southsider pronunciation.
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) I think Hoyt, Dotson and Bannister were something like 42-5 the last half. Of course I may be off on those numbers, but it was pretty unbelievable. Britt Burns was the #4 starter. I don't remember the details as I was only 9, but I have never seen a team go on THAT kind of a tear in Chicago. It was the best baseball I have ever seen, even including the 2005 who was consistantly good for the entire season.
  16. Here is the question... how many of those guys make their major league debuts in a uniform other than a Sox one, and who is the highest ranking one to do so?
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) Why do people even get bent out of shape with minor league numbers? Hes 20 years old and just defected from his home country. Id say that there has to be some sort of adjustment period to being in this country, let alone playing baseball. Its the cool thing to do...
  18. When a new group comes in, they want their own people in charge. Its not a big surprise they didn't want a guy in charge who really didn't do much until he got lucky on Toews and Kane. Give me the Bowmans anyday. Just look what they built in Detroit. If they can build something half as good here, it will be better than anything many people have seen in their lifetimes.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) it is 97% of the legal population. So it really won't be 48,000,000 people covered, which is why the projections are only for a trillion dollars. That makes a lot more sense. The estimates are that about 9-10 million are counted in that number as illegals, so the number drops of dramatically, especially because the CBO used an estimate of only 45.7 million not insured. The interesting part is that the fines for non-compliance only apply to legal residents, so the illegals will continue to exploit the system while the 56% of the country that actually pays federal taxes will continue to fund their illegal activities, even though 80% of the country opposes it. http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NDliZ...zY1ZmJiNzUxYWE=
  20. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) How did the '83 team only have one guy on it...and it was the rookie Kittle. Wow. They were really bad for the first couple of months of the season. They went crazy for the last 2/3 of the year.
  21. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Got a question of the most boring day of the year. But it is related to Buehrle (mods, feel free to break off into new thread, if needed). Is Mark Buehrle a Hall of Famer? OK, so he won't get to 300 wins or 3000 strikeouts and he's only been in the top 5 of Cy voting once... But, let me give you some stats off the top of my head: - Been more or less the #1 starter for the Sox since 2001 - Double digit wins in ever season he's been a starter - Lifetime ERA of 3.79 - More than 200 IPs in all but his first season, which was mostly as a reliever anyway - Top 10 in ERA 4 times - Won a World Series. - Been to 4 AS games - He is currently eighth all-time in wins and innings pitched by a pitcher in a White Sox uniform. - Started every season opener from 2002-2006, 2008-2009 - Threw a no-hitter I know his career obviously isn't over and a lot of things can happen, but let's say MB continues on his same pace until he retires. Here's why I ask...of course if you look at the pitchers that are currently or will shortly be in the Hall, MB doesn't stack up. BUT, how much cache does a player get for the little known stats? Also, the criteria is going to change. Do you think the Hall will look at the fact that he was the White Sox best pitcher for so long? Discuss. He's never won a Cy Young and he has never won 20 games in a season. Those two things are going to be the first red flags for him not being an HOF pitcher. If he can't even be called the best pitcher in the AL for a single year, I don't think you can call him one of the greatest ever. He just hasn't demonstrated the dominance that I see as necesary for the Hall.
  22. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) Soxtalk feels weird today...I cant put my finger on it...it just feels weird. Its Gage's avy turning you on...
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:40 PM) You seem to be more than happy to defend our current system, where we ration by income. Edit: and don't tell me you're not defending the current system, because any time you argue "There's not enough doctors to cover everyone!" it's an argument in favor of rationing by some means. Your assumption was that I have never been on the bad end of the system. That is not true. I have gone without insurance for periods of time before. Even with that said, I do not think that someone else should be paying for me.
  24. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 06:06 AM) Next time someone argues that the moon landing was faked, asked that person why NASA would decide to use real astronauts instead of actors and bring up how the director would've reshot the scene after the line was screwed up. Unless they just said he screwed up the line to make it seem authentic...
