  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 08:40 PM) D-Backs think Brandon Allen is 2010 ready. http://twitter.com/SI_JonHeyman/status/2524547374 They wouldn't have made the deal if they thought he sucked...
  2. Buehrle gives up a bomb, and it is 3-1 Cleveland.
  3. I get the feeling a DL trip and surgery are on the horizon for Marquez. Does anyone know what his velocity has looked like since he came off of the DL?
  4. You could see this coming a mile away... Then again, it could just be another smoke screen for Kenny.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) It didnt help that Hawk practically named him the next Babe Ruth. I almost wonder if that was why Hawk has hyped some of these guys up so much, is help in the selling of these guys to other teams for Kenny. Teams like the Yankee seem to do this with every prospect they end up dealing, maybe it would work for us too?
  6. Happy Birthday guys
  7. Nix has such a nice arm on the double play.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) Adultery = slimeball in my book. You want to bang other ladies? Man-up and get a divorce, regardless of what it costs.
  9. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) AJ seems pissy today. Everyone is. The strike zone is for s*** tonight.
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) "Efforts to contact his agent have been successful," said GM Kenny Williams. "Their efforts to contact their client have not been so successful. If he's out there Thursday, and shows a better mix between his breaking ball and fastball, he's got a place here. If he doesn't, he doesn't have a place here. Only he can dictate if he's ready." Colon pulled a similar stunt with Boston last year. "If he doesn't show up Thursday in Charlotte, somebody will take the mound," said Williams. "This train is going to keep rolling." http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2...r_noshow_i.html That was almost 100% exactly what I expected Kenny to say. f*** him. He can go away if he doesn't want the organization to win.
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 05:01 PM) According to Joe Cowley, as reported on Boers and Bernstein, KW has no clue as to the whereabouts of Bartolo Colon, who was supposed to make a start in Charlotte this week. I wonder if he’s pulling a similar stunt as Odalis Perez, where he wants to opt out or if this a legitimate concern. If that is the case, expect him to be the guy dumped for Pena.
  12. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) This move proves Williams' confidence in his scouting department. Not only are they suggesting to Williams to Pena's statistics as of now are an aberration, and he's a capable replacement for Dotel next season, but you're saying that trading for a relief pitcher is better for our future then holding onto Allen. I know Williams and company have done well, as a whole, these last few seasons, but the recent mess of last offseason (Swisher/Vazquez) really doesn't need to be amplified with anything resembling production with Allen. Not to mention the fact we have seen A LOT of the Diamondbacks over the years.
  13. Of all of the people who say stuff like this, Buehrle is the one guy I could see following through on retiring early. Hopefully he doesn't, but more power to him if he wants to.
  14. Why did he cut that one off? It looked like he would have had him at the plate!
  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:20 PM) This move also might signal that the Sox view Viciedo as a future first baseman. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:21 PM) or flowers as a 1b. I think you guys are on to something with them viewing one of their power hitters moving over to 1B eventually. Viciedo might be a target, or we could see something like Dye getting resigned and moved to 1B as well, with a shuffle in the OF. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) Frankly, that's exactly what this sounds like. Except we gave up more than Joe Borchard. It is interesting because with his strikeout rate, and his ginormous power, Borchard might be a great comparision for Allen. He seems to be getting his average and walks up, but he still has a pretty big hole in his bat. It is also scary that he is on pace for only about 20 homers this year.
  16. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) While I am sad to see Brandon Allen traded... I love Tony Pena's arm. He is a guy who hasn't been consistent, but has absolute electric stuff. And the Sox seem to scout the Dbacks pretty well. This seems like a move for 2010.
  17. Interesting. That might be the last thing I expected to get is a reliever. I am curious to hear the book on the guy.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) Sending all the illegals back to Mexico is nothing more than a fantasy and I'm really wondering why people still actually talk about it like it's something that can actually be done. Instead we are going to bankrupt our social programs by making them all citizens, and giving them free retirement and social security. That's a pretty nice slap in the face to the generations who have actually followed our laws.
  19. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) While that may be hot in the short term...it's not 100+ heat index for an entire summer. Kap? Tex? Wanna join me on this one. I spent three years in Houston, and the humidity was just outrageous. Those were HOT summers.
  20. Like I said... it isn't that important to him.
  21. QUOTE (brendol @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) We arent getting Halladay. If we do, it would completely drain our minor league system. We arent serious contenders as it is, so i doubt kenny will do that. "Those who do not learn from their history are doomed to repeat it"
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) Future Sox was just brought up on Boers and Bernstein. At 3:58 ET, 2:58 CT. You guys are moving on up! What was the context and the discussion???
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) More insight on Obama and gays in the military. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...p;#entry1940139 I always thought it was an executive order Clinton signed as a compromise. I never realized Congress actually passed legislation for it and that it'd take Congressional action to change it. No wonder Obama hasn't done anything yet. Do you think if he REALLY wanted to do something, he could have put the pressure on Congress in one of his primetime news confrences or the like? Of all the things he has tried to get done, he has made a very clear public campaign for, including ones that take Congressional action. Gays in the military is obviously not that important to him right now, or he would have put it out there in a very public manner.
  24. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 12:52 PM) Pretty much what I was trying to say. He doesn't because he doesn't want to. I'm saying he probably could be a policy wonk if he wanted but since ranting and mocking gets him unbelievably rich, he's never going to. Which is exactly right, because when he first started getting going, he used to do exactly that, until he figured out what sold.
