I think it is all absurd and can't see having to run down tons of combinations through a trade generator to justify by these imaginary trade proposals are awful, when they were most likely intentionally awful to begin with. Jose Ruiz has been a useable middle reliever for pennies on the dollar of free agents. He's put up 3 seasons which average out to just above a league average ERA. Baseball is full of guys like Jose Ruiz on the back of most MLB rosters. If they have been creating mlb middle relievers out of thin air for 20 years, this franchise would be in a lot better shape.

Who cares if Jimmy Lambert was better. We turned Jose Ruiz into a useful bullpen piece after being a minor league waiver claim. THAT is the part that actually matters. McClure is a AAA roster spot that anyone in baseball could have had a few weeks ago.

It is more like collecting versus playing a game with fixed options. In this game there is only one Liam Hendriks, and everyone wants him. Most want him enough that they will be willing to pay up for him. You play all of those offers against each other.

If one in ten of these guys turns into Jose Ruiz, you have won. It isn't like you will ever hit on a big number of these guys, which is quite literally the point of churning the bottom of the roster to take chances on these types of guys.

Look, the whole world knew we were selling Sale/Eaton/Quintana. When you have a commodity people want, your desperation doesn't matter, because teams needs and competition matter more. Even if the Sox are being required by Jerry to cut dollars, Liam Hendriks still makes the back end of every single bullpen in MLB a lot better. Teams will bid for that, because there is no one out there for only dollars who is even close to that level.

Nothing wrong with a flier deal like this. It's a live arm and see if your guys can harness it. If not, send him packing again.

The Sox don't have to dump Hendriks. Teams need relief help, and Liam is one of the best in the business. If teams want him, they will have to pay up for him. It really is that simple.
