  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 16, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) Who was he referring to? Based on his approval rating I will have to disagree. That's what I can't wait to return to... 4 years of approval ratings running the country again.
  2. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ May 15, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) Wow, the finale was great. Very eventful. Seriously, that was the funniest parts of the whole episode. I was falling out of my chair laughing as some of those scenes.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 16, 2008 -> 07:52 AM) I had to scratch my head after reading this on MSNBC's First Read: Why? He is actually doing what a legislator should be doing, representing his consituants, instead of his own self-interests. Good for him.
  4. Seriously, after all of the things I have seen GWB called and compared to over the past 7.5 years, there is some nerve being pissed off about this. Every day on the campaign trail stuff is said similar to this. Maybe if both of the Dems whole platform wasn't based off of Bush's term, they woudl have some room to complain. Now Bush does the samething and all of the sudden he is bad for it? Yeah, nothing is going to change if Obama wins, because he is the exact same politician as Hillary and George... An opportunist looking to make something out of anything. Change my ass.
  5. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ May 16, 2008 -> 05:32 AM) Intimidation in Zimbabwe as it approaches its runoff election -- police are regularly storming Anglican churches on Sundays to prevent worship. (Except for one apostate church run by a Mugabe patsy.) http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/16/world/af...16zimbabwe.html Zimbabwe has been a case study in how to destroy a nation in a short period of time. They were one of the most propserous Africian nations there was, until Mugabe got it in his head to completely redistribute all wealth in that country. The entire economy is destroyed and in shambles. They used to be self-sufficient in food stuffs, but now there are no commodities left, combined with price controls, and no one has anything. Their currency is worthless, and inflation is something like 6 figures a year. Yes that is 100,000%, compared to high estimates of 5-6% here in the US.
  6. I know these deals are all the rage right now, but what happens when someone throws $50 million at the next Chris Shelton? There is no doubting Quentin is good when healthy, but do we know he can stay healthy for 5/6/7 years? He has had a couple of MAJOR surgeries. That makes me nervous.
  7. First win of the season without hitting a home run! Plus one win in SF means a .500 road trip!
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) This is a prime example of McCain (or insert other candidate name here) being taken wildly out of context by the media (CNN's headline reads same). He was giving a speech, and was illustrating what the world and the country would look like at the end of his first term - in 2013. He mentioned a number of things, including that the Iraq war would be won, and most of the troops would be home. He did NOT say that it would necessarily take that long. 100 years in the same sense we have had troops in Europe for 100 years. In all seriousness, this is as absurd as the whole Al Gore invented the internet thing. I honestly can't believe people are using it so completely out of context with a straight face.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2008 -> 11:08 AM) At least to my eyes, the reason why the Cindy McCain/Sudan stuff matters isn't that they were invested in places that did business with that area...it's that she has refused to allow any reasonable look at her tax returns by the public, and essentially all of Senator McCain's money, investments, holdings, and even income is shown under her tax returns. In other words, if he were to be elected, and she continued to take that position, it would be impossible for the American people to judge whether or not the President had a financial conflict of interest on any particular issue. The Sudan stuff is just an example of why it's important for a candidate to do this type of disclosure. Especially when you consider that Cindy McCain's assets, including her airplane, has been used to ferry people around for the campaign without billing the campaign. That is something I find highly troublesome. Even Senator Kerry's wife did significantly more disclosure than Cindy McCain has done so far. Of course conflict of interest in the eye of the beholder. Its pretty easy to argue make the same argument for any of the candidates out there, especially when they are getting hundreds of millions of dollars from people. There is usually a reason they are giving you money in the first place.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) So, since neither universities nor businesses are actually allowed to contribute to political campaigns...basically the argument 2k5 is making is that no one who is employed by anyone who does anything controversial whether or not they personally had anything to do with the actions of those groups should be prohibited from contributing to a campaign? Basically, I think this means that anyone who owns stock in any company in the U.S. or is employed by any company in the U.S. should be barred from contributing to a campaign. Because I own a couple shares of BP, Obama should clearly return my contribution, as otherwise that money might have been the dividend I get from BP, and clearly you don't want an oil company funding your campaign right? That's a position I wholeheartedly endorse, because it pretty much requires a public financing system. Yay! Not my argument... Just pointing out the silliness of this being a point of contention in the first place.

  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) Is it really so hard for people to park in one spot? Sometimes, I miss having an old beater car that I didn't care about. I used to squeeze in next to the asshole who thinks his porsche needs two spaces, right up next to it, when I had a car I didn't care about. That was always fun. I love having a train station car that I don't care about for just these situations...
  15. I am a f***ing genius for changing the f***ing line up around because we f***ing won. When we lose I will be f***ing stupid, because I changed the f***ing line up. [/Ozzie Guillen on his line up changed
  16. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 15, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) They apparently missed all of the 56-foot forkballs that he threw three feet to the left of AJ. Seriously though, you've got to love Jose turning it around this year. This dude's arm has taken an absolute beating over the years and he keeps on like the Energizer Bunny. As for CQ, what else can you say about this guy? He might end up as big as steal as Schueler grabbing Maggs off of waivers back in the mid '90s. Maggs was a FA signing out of Venezuela right?
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2008 -> 08:02 AM) Well, in fairness, I don't think Steff, Soxy, QP, Melissa or others of the fairer sex really want to prove their manly worth. But we'd still love for them to show up too!!! How about improve your Soxtalk cred?
  18. Brandon hit for the cycle last night, and has been mosterously hot. http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/r...ses/?id=3640666
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 15, 2008 -> 02:07 AM) Way to go Brandon Allen, gotta love those people born on 02/12/1986. Actually, he's been on fire lately and is up to .305/.346/.594/.939 this year. He still doesn't walk enough (especially with as much as he strikes out), but he hits for pretty good average and has very good power as a big, lefty batting 1st basemen. As for Getz, I thought last year that he'd be a better option that Richar long term once he was ready, so yeah i'm a huge fan. He doesn't stand out at much, but he's a very solid all around player, and we don't really have many guys like that. Steady influences up the middle are always a plus, and I think he'll be ready to provide that by next year, if not earlier. A lotta love for the pride of Montgomery Texas!
  20. Anymore interested? If we are going to do this by ourselves we need 25-30 people for the softball portion of our festivities. I think we are in the 15 range. Don't be shy. Prove your manly worth to all of Soxtalkdom.
  21. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 14, 2008 -> 12:26 PM) The funny part is that dude could be Gage's brother... The resemblence is scary.
  22. QUOTE (Cali @ May 13, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) Not that we didnt know it was coming but abc OFFICIALLY picks up Scrubs for Mid-Season 2009. YEAH!!!!
  23. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ May 14, 2008 -> 08:59 AM) i was thinking, wouldnt it be best to release thome? sure it would mean eating all the money hes owed this yr. but then we wont have to put up with him next yr. that saves u money. obvioulsy, it appears as if hes gunna get the plate appearances necessary to get that option next yr. or is this idea dumb and unrealistic? (i dont think the sox would release thome. hes just dreadful to watch) is roberts a FA at the end of the year? (if he is, we should have money to pay him) Release Thome? Seriously? I'll bet there are close to 20 other teams that would be willing to take a shot at him on the waiver wire, if nothing else. Hell look no further than Seattle for a team desparate for a player exactly like Thome. We could get players for him, if we really wanted rid of him as an organization.
  24. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 14, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) When scoring three runs or less 2-15 When scoring two runs or less 1-12 When scoring a run or less 0-8 When not scoring a run 0-4 The sad thing is outside of the 13-1 loss to Minnesota the average runs allowed in these games. Total runs not earned runs, total runs is 3.5. Including the Min debalce 4 runs. average. Of the 17 games in which they have scored threee runs or less Carmona, Marcum and Halladay are the only legitimate pitchers. Kinda hard to win those games
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 14, 2008 -> 01:33 AM) Yeah it's really not puzzling at all. I mean, what player reflects more on the history of baseball, Jorge Piedra, Ricky Bones, or Barry Bonds? Not to mention the Nixonian mistake of the cover up being worse than the crime. No one would be bothering the guy if he had told the truth.... I don't know .... at all? America is a funny place. Do the crime, but if you tearfully admit to it, they mostly forgive you. Boldface lie to our faces, and we want blood.
