sox working on extensions for both Jenks and Cabrera
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 26, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) On the FA Market I think he'd get more than that. If he'd sign for that I'd go for it, but I'd expect it would take a down year for him to come into that range. 3/$30 or 4/$40 might be more realistic. After seeing what Furcal got a year ago, that might be low.

Some SoxFest quotes
QUOTE(Wanne @ Jan 26, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) This is the one quote that got my goat... I'm really hoping this isn't the case...because if it is...jettison his ass off right now...RIGHT NOW! I honestly can't see that being the case because if Juan comes in and works hard...he very well could be the starter. Doubtful...but very realistic. But Ozzie would know him better than anybody...so it is a real concern IMO. I also got a kick out of someone demanding, "WE WANT ANSWERS!....." Puhlease....can you be anymore friggin dramatic. If the contracts that just "OK" players are getting this off season doesn't motivate Uribe, nothing will.

ozzie looking at colon
QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) 2008 Bartolo Colon aspires to a contract for eight million dollars for 2008 Impacto Deportivo Impact Sports The only way he could get eight million is if someone paid him in Peso's.

Uribe vs Richar BATTLE for 2nd Base
QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) Yes, but can "Comedor Profundo"'s ego handle the platoon delegation? He played the best ball he played for us in 2004 when he was a supersub.

FairTax
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) Funny how nobody seems to mention the human cost in this. We all talk about government bloat and all that, but how do you think the economy would handle suddenly having to absorb hundreds of thousands of jobless people? Everybody seems to think that this wouldn't have an effect on the economy. In all most all cases, the private sector creates and maintains more productive jobs for the amount of money spent. Instead of having 3 people to do 1 job, one person does it, and the savings get spent elsewhere, instead of for duplicity. Governments are a case study in waste, because there is no motivation to do anything better.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) Politicians pose with people all the time. More research will have to be done, but it is a distinct possibility that it is a fluke. It probably is, but the mere fact that he has a picture with them makes me laugh. People in glasshouses shouldn't throw stones, so the Clintons should probably put the bolders away.

Kenny and Jerry Steroid enablers?
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 09:02 AM) I was thinking about who Canseco could have named as a "bomb shell" and Maggs would be the best target. An All-Star slugger who was not named in any report, actually gives the book something unique. And it would be niave to think there were no juicers on the Sox and that management did not know it. It was too common, too obvious to those that knew what to look for and where to look. And I think Mariotti could have thought up this article idea on his own. Say what you will about Jay, he knows how to get his name on everyone's lips and writing anything negative about the Sox gets all Sox fans in a tizzy. Funny that this will probably have Sox fans defending Maggs, something I thought I would never see. You'll never see me defending Maggs.

Kenny and Jerry Steroid enablers?
Glad to see Jay is still reading Soxtalk for ideas for his articles. Either that or we confirmed that Dick Allen is indeed Jay Mariotti, which would explain a lot of what he thinks of the White Sox front office personel.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) That's the other possiblity for Bloomberg. And Paul may consider it too. It would be interesting to see a race like that - Clinton, Romney, Bloomberg and Paul. To actually have 4 candidates run that could get significant votes would be unique in recent history. I think you would have to go back to the Civil War to get a race with 4 major candidates, correct?

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 08:00 AM) Perhaps the Bloomberg meeting should tell you something else... Bloomberg may endorse Obama. And if he does, he'll do it right after SC, with a week to go to NY primary. One of Bloomberg or Paul, or maybe both, is going to run in a third party candidacy. I have no doubt. If we get Clinton versus Romney, there is going to be a yawning chasm in the middle of the country, begging for ANYONE else to run.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 07:47 AM) A photo showing the Clintons posing with Resko, or whatever Obama's 'slum landlord' friend's name is has turned up. Hillary appeared on the Today show and denied knowing the man at all. I believe her for 2 reason. First, she wouldn't have hit Obama with if this was an acquintance of hers. Also, the picture looks photoshopped to me. Should be an interesting day. For those who are interested, the pic is front and center on Drudge. I'll be honest, I laughed my ass of when I saw it.

THIS DATE IN SOX HISTORY: JANUARY 24TH/Collins, Loaiza
Has there ever been a better set of players moves than Esteban Loiaza? They got his near Cy Young season for $500,000. Then they traded him for a guy that won 15 games in a row, and powered them to a World Series title. Plus how could you not love his Soxfest shirts?

Bill Clinton on the Trail
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) new deals with china were signed in the 90's. Chinese trade deals with the WTO. NAFTA stands for north american free trade agreement, China isn't any where near north america. My posts have included the wording "NAFTA and China deals" or "wto, NAFTA, and chinese deals". The word "and" or a comma shows that they are different and used in combination, not that they are the same thing. I understand completely. But if you ask me it is kind of strange for Ron Paul to promote himself as the one true capitialist, while trumpeting the horn of extreme protectionism. Free trade is capitalism as its best. He would actually be hindering our economy by throwing up barriers.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) Not to look a gift horse in the mouth but. . . Where are they getting this money? Will this actually help? #1 it is more deficit spending #2 It will have a minimal effect in most economists eyes. It is more of a mental thing than anything.

Latest name on the steroid front? Magglio
One interesting thought that I just was reminded of... remember when Ozzie and Maggs went at it in the press, and Ozzie at one point said Maggs should shut his mouth or else? Was this the "or else"?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) Ok, so this would be the equivalent of a 1 time tax cut of $1200...and so if I were to say, have already been planning to take a honeymoon this summer on my 1 year anniversary, I might just think that it's paid for by that rebate. (Not that I mind paying the taxes of course, as the communist hippy that I am. I'll just stick myself into the Ron Paul wing of saying "Ok, if they're giving it to me I'll take it") That is how I have understood the proposals up to this point. I haven't explored the newest one, but I am guessing it is along this same line.

Name Your Favorite City
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) reborn. SS is right, great coastal city. Yeah, what Tex said. There are so many great spots and beaches all up and down the island. It is a slice of paradise, that no one really talks about. My favorite is taking the ferry over to the Bolivar Pennisula and driving onto one of the beaches, and parking right on the gulf with no one for hundreds of yards around. You can't beat the Texas gulf coast.
