  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) Great read. I'm looking at my business, I need a big ass truck to haul my rig, and thinking this may be a great time to buy a truck. They must be sitting on lots with everyone trying to trade them in for fuel sippers. Maybe a nice Dodge Cummings Diesel. You are on to something there. I remember recently reading in separate articles that Carmax has record inventories for SUVs and trucks, coupled with the automakers saying that SUV/truck sales were down double digit percentages vs last year.

  6. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 08:07 AM) I think they are living in an unreal world right now. How long will they keep this state of denial? What should they being doing? Sulking? Quitting? Crying? Blaming someone else? Seriously think about that statement.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 07:33 AM) How much would an average Pizza cost in Chicago FWIW? Deepdish or thin crust? There is a big difference there. Good deep dish is much more expensive, as there are a lot more ingrediants that go into it.
  8. QUOTE(wallyburger @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 07:34 AM) I am talking about cheap all year, not just Griffey. Jerry took Maggs, Lee and Valentin money and flipped some of it over to the pitching staff and pocketed the rest. Bevery Hills staff and a bargain basement offense. I really think Jerry's problem is he is a risk free guy. He just won't hedge his bet. His budget was his only consideration and Kenny thought the pitching would carry the club. If by "pocketed the rest" you mean "increseased the payroll from $63 million in 2004, to $75 million in 2005", then yes you are right.
  9. Kent reminds me a lot of AJ from the stories. He is a guy who won't tolerate half assed play, and I can respect that. Milton Bradley is an egotistical piece of s*** who I want no part of.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 07:17 AM) Thanks. I've been predicting doom and gloom because I felt it was just a matter of time before our tough 2nd half schedule caught up to us, and we stopped getting all the breaks. Now, a superior Indians roster is peaking, and making up games at a frightening pace. Keep bashing me all you want, I'll still be rooting for the Sox unlike a lot of cowards on this site. It's hard to get mad about a team collapsing when they haven't done a thing to try and correct the problems the team has. Its not even bashing you, its the truth. To be honest I haven't seen anything that looks like you are rooting for the team. Everything is about what is wrong, not what is right, fun, enjoyable, exciting etc. Even when something good happens it gets qualified by a negative. To be honest, somedays I wonder if you enjoy being right more than you enjoy a Sox win. But I will give you this much, at least you were saying what you were saying consistantly. The people who had the magic numbers in their signatures and the cute sayings before, only to be replaced with how bad we suck, trade demands, and how they know we are going to lose now are the true bottom feeders. Unless you want to count the people coming out of the woodwork after not posting for months to say how bad we suck. I don't know how much you enjoy baseball, but at least you are a stand up guy.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) I'd be a lot happier if we still had a double digit lead. No you wouldn't. You haven't been happy all year no matter what our record has been. You have been predicting doom and gloom forever.
  12. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) Apparently, I've heard that most of you guys who had been giving me s*** are now starting to realize I was right. Starting to realize that, "Best team in baseball!" in the beginning of August gets you nowhere fast. This is a real scare whether you want to admit it or not. This team is dying fast. "But we got pitching so we'll always be there." My ass. Tell me how many games you can win without scoring runs. This pitching staff hasn't been great the past month, especially the overrated Buehrle(overrated around these parts). The "smartball" offense is looking horrible. This year's team offensively is no different from last year's. We're all swinging for the fences. Wait, I just noticed there is a difference. We have guys worse at swinging for the fences than in year's past. Maybe that's why we aren't scoring. Gimme back Carlos Lee anyday(and no this isn't hindsight either). There's only maybe 3 guys I'd take from this year's team and I would replace the rest with last year's team(offensively). PK is the only hot one right now, and even at that, he's going to cool down drastically again. I know there are tons of crappy posters who think this thread is garbage, should be locked or whatever. I say F U to them. They even know the lead isn't safe, even though it's still at 7 games. I'd like to see those prospects that everyone keeps talking about, help us now, not in 10 years. Hey, but "we still have the best team"...oh wait, we don't. I thought you were never coming back? I guess the temptation to act like a two year old was too great for you.
  13. I am going to incur some major hate when I say this, but I have no problem with losing that game last night. That was the best baseball game I have seen in years at least. When you throw in the pitching that Santana did, the pitching that Garcia did, especially to pitch over the Ozuna error, the catch by Ford, the catch by Stewart, the catch by Dye, and the play at first base on the Ozuna bunt, that game was a pleasure to watch. I will be thrilled to death if we play like that in the playoffs. We hit a lot of balls hard off of the reigning Cy Young pitcher, the Twins defense was just always in the right place. There is nothing you can do about that. Our pitching and defense were absolutely unbelievable, and one stinking pitch doesn't change that. Honestly I am proud of the way the Sox played last night. In years past this team would have found a way to lose that game. Last night the Twins found a way to win it before we did, and to me there is a big difference there. The Sox have zero reasons to hang their heads after last night
  14. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:13 AM) Barnabys here in South Bend has a beer batter crust pizza that is an awful lot like that. I their pizza. Freshen my memory for a second, is that the place in the old downtown area? If so that was a great pizza place for not being in Chi-town. Its about the only redeeming thing in SB
  15. QUOTE(winodj @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) The problem is that we really aren't doing with less, we are just shifting the burden to states and cities which tax you MORE as a result. To me that is not a problem, but the way it should have been all along. Now the problem IMO is that the federal government is still making too many rules that should be decided at the local levels.
  16. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) Ross Gload has an incredible ability to swing at pitches in the dirt. Much like Vlad Guerrero, except Vlad actually hits them rather than striking out. Wait Vlad is a better hitter than Ross Gload? I luv it when you analyze
  17. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) I seriously wonder if he's healthy enough to play the outfield. If he is I can't imagine that he'd still be sitting in Charlotte unless there's more to it than ability. Attitude? "Chemistry"? probably just his shoulder If he were healthy enough to throw from the OF, he would be here instead of Anderson, no doubt.
  18. It will be interesting to see if Ozuna gets more hits than he gives up at 3rd base. He basically played even against Johnson, not including the two CSs.
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) Once again, some random woman's panties save the day. If i only had a dollar everytime i said that..... ....I would probably only have a dollar. And your mom would be uber pissed
  20. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) no bras, just panties. do we have to wear them on our head like rally caps though? that might be a little questionable. Only if they haven't been washed...
  21. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) At least you've proved your point :rolly McCarthy's starts since demotion. IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA McCarthy 45.1 30 10 10 12 38 4 1.99 Wow 4 walks in 45 innings?!?!?
  22. Couldn't happen to a nicer drunk...
  23. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) Then you would have to look at the population, and determine the number of smokers vs. skydivers vs. drivers and figure out the rates directly attributable to dying from each. Sounds like something right up your alley Mr CPA
  24. Maybe he is waiting to get the General Managers job?
  25. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) Would this include skydivers? Construction workers? Any dangerous job or activity? All have inherent risks. I wouldn't call it a suicide. I would call it reckless indifference. (Thank you Law and Order.) I didn't interpret the letter as meaning meerly "dangerous" activities. I think he was talking about thinks you know will kill you. Things such as smoking, overeating, overdrinking, etc. Not that I agree with the guy who wrote this, but I just thought it might make for an interesting discussion.
