  1. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) Who doesn't think about small Asian girls? But they are so much hotter in a Southpaw costume
  2. QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 10:22 AM) Anyone else think he's full of s*** despite being under oath??? I sure do.
  3. QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 10:07 AM) One thing about the Ozzie love--having Neal as the next SP option after B-Mac would only enhance that affection. If think if Walker shows he can pitch in tough situations like Cotts has, and go more than an inning at a time, Kevin would go north. Having multiple options for SP's in the minors ready in case of injury is a necessity. The sox didn't have that last yr. Ozzie won't let it happen this yr. My reasoning is I don't think Adkins is cut out to be a SP, even though he'll likely go to AAA and be a SP. Jon has had a few yrs as a SP that haven't gone too well BTW-Isn't Walker being paid a decent salary, even if he goes to AAA [like $500k]? I thought the salary might bump up to $750 K total if he made the sox. Contract details Oz has made overtures about wanted to use Neal as a starter later on. He seems intent to me on bringing him north as a starter through the comments he has made. It might be different if Neal were getting hammered, but he is holding his own so far.

  6. QUOTE(sec159row2 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 09:32 AM) ????????????? Examples -They completely own minor league baseball and dictate all of their rules and business practices. No other sport does this. -They don't subject everyone to the same draft rules. Look at the NBA, NFL, and NHLs drafts to refer to what I am talking about. -They have forced even unwilling owners to share their revenues with small market teams. -No one else can start another baseball league and not be subject to MLB doing anything they want to crush it. They can committ anti-trust violations such as a predatory pricing to drive them under, and no one can do anything about. The USFL won a lawsuit against the NFL for committing these same practices that MLB could get away with. -The commisioner can force teams to take actions they don't want to, even though he has no ownership in their teams. There are plenty of other examples, but my mind is blank right now...
  7. QUOTE(sec159row2 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) #1 he's been lying his whole career #2 why isn't he playing football anymore #3 torn bicep isn't a steriod injury? #4 he's been on steriods the whole time... like I said I don't think frank took steriods... but i don't know why I think this... we have no proof as to who's telling the truth and who's lying... why do I/we believe frank??? cause he's on our team????? I would be crushed if it turned out frank was lying and sammy was telling the truth... #1 You can't argue with that as a hypothetical without test. Anyone can be lying at anytime, ever. There is no way to tell 100%. His actions with the issue speak louder than anything. #2 He was obviously WAY better at baseball #3 Not when you tear it from the impact of the ground on a really bad diving technique. If he would have thrown it out it would be a different story. #4 It doesn't matter, if he was on roids he would have gotten a lot bigger, a lot faster. All of his gains have been slow, measured, and consistant. Not the huge bulk jobs that coincide with steroid usage.
  8. The anti-trust exemption allows baseball to engage in anticompetitive practices.

  10. QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) They couldn't possibly have seen Redick, or else they wouldn't have made an idiotic statement like that. It sound to me like, thos types of people just get their info from what they've heard, rather then actually seeing them play. Yeah they don't share your opinion so they are idiotic. How arrogent and condesending.
  11. A few things to respond. #1 Frank has been speaking out against steroids basically his whole career, and not just when it became a hot topic. #2 Frank has been huge his whole life basically. He played TE at Auburn as a freshman. You don't play football in the SEC as a small dude, especially as a glorified lineman. #3 his injuries are not a of a steroid nature. He tore a bicep diving for a baseball. He has had tons of foot and ankle problems, which is not unusual for a guy his size. The injuries you look for in a steroid abuser are things like pulled muscles and torn tendons. None of Frank's injuries fit the profile. #4 the size that Frank has added has been gradually over his 16 years in MLB. He never came to camp 30 pounds bigger one year over next.
  12. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) Or blame a fifth.
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) Dorn. Dorn COULD play 3B when he wanted to. Think Kenny Williams
  14. They reinstituted lots of the cuts that Bush wanted in the budget, no surprise there. The House and Senate still have some differences in their bills they will have to sort out. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/18/politics...5&partner=MYWAY
  15. Like I said before, I really wish he got to testify. If for no other reason than to standout as a becon against all of the other cheats and liars.
  16. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 08:36 AM) The other catcher I thought looked good when I seen him was Casanova. I know he won't have a shot at the big team but in time he may turn into something for the Sox. They already reassigned Raul to the minor league camp.
  17. Your middle infield is kinda scary for only a 10 team league. Also you have a ton of question marks in your rotation. Schilling isn't supposed to be ready for openning day, Miller is going to be out at least another month, Contreras I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, Washburn is a stretch, and I would trade Pedro as an injury risk.
  18. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 07:07 AM) Hmm....I signed up for this, and I remember having to use the soxtalk password and name, but it says my yahoo bracket isn't registered under any group. I'll have to keep you posted to what I have, if it turns out to be anything respectable. YOu have to register for the Soxtalk group separately.
  19. QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 07:04 AM) How many people can make a comment about JJ Redick without actually seeing him? He doesn't play any defense? Why don't you ask Rashad McCants if JJ Redick plays any defense. And how is he no the best at what he does? Salim Stoudamire is definitely not a better player or shooter then JJ Redick. Stoudamire has taken less 3 pointers then Redick, he also makes less 3 pointers a game then Redick, he's not better then Redick at free throw shooting, and he plays in a conference with the likes of oregon State, Washington State, California, USC, and Oregon. I think most people have seen JJ play, as Duke is on TV all of the time. Odds are that more people have seen Reddick play vs McCants or Stoudemire.
  20. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) I was wondering if they would take to a beer swilling and sailor like mouth as a pope? I guess I play nice until I get the new hat... then I let it out on em and see how it goes lol You'd still be closer to Heaven than many popes...
  21. I am going to guess Neal goes north. Cotts has a few things going for him. The biggest one is that Ozzie loves the kid. And Ozzie has seemed to get his way with the last couple roster spots usually. Also Walker gets $500,000 if he goes north, Neal gets nothing extra.
  22. I will say one thing in Jaime's favor. He did everything the Sox have asked of him. He has played any role or position, and never complained about it.
  23. Trading Davis also makes sense as the Sox brought 5 catchers into camp for a reason. With AJ looking like he is going to start 110-120 games this year, there is no reason to have this many catchers in camp otherwise.
  24. Does anyone know if there is a place to get information on the B games? Is there a stat page or a box score spot for them?
  25. A lot of interesting things here. I do really wish that Frank got to testify. I think he would have come off with PR coup sitting up there with all of the rest of the scumbags, liars, and evaders. With all of the bad press the big fella has had this would have been a nice reward for all of the years he stayed on the straight and narrow. I also wish they had granted immunity to the ballplayers, because I really would have liked to seen these guys come clean. It became worthless to have Mark McGwire there, because he couldn't answer anything without it possibly getting him in trouble. Baseball's leaders came off as complete assclowns. Bud Selig gave some of the most self-serving answers of all of them. He didn't want this issue in public just as much as anyone else. He could have made this a public issue, or at worst, he has the ability to enact these kind of rules for the good of the game, without subjecting them to collective bargining. If he really wanted something done, he could have done it. And as a former used car salesman, he knows all of the backdoors. And finally with the whole using steroids arguement that went on, the "if you never did it, you don't know it" arguement is a joke. With that logic Soxtalk has one member that I know of who is qualified to talk about major league baseball because he is playing it right now. None of the rest of us should be able to comment about it, because we have never played, or are playing.
