Sox signed Giambi to help keep Frank?
QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) Intersting the people here who called Maggs a selfish, greedy, MF for becoming a free agent and NOT showing any LOYALTY. Suddenly don't have a problem with dumping Frank if it means helping the team. LOL. You guys kill me. Who said they have no problem with it?

Buffett weighs in on US rec trade deficit
Interesting to note, I was looking for specific by country numbers and couldn't find them. All I could find where numbers for January. China is by far the biggest offender and that is mostly because of their pegging of the Yuan to the dollar. If we want a quick way to cut the price of oil, tariff the crap out of China so that the trade gap goes to zero. If you extrapalate out the $15.3 billion for one month, we are supplying China with $180 billion a year in surplus. And keep in mind that isn't the government either. That is WE the people as consumers that make up that number. That is also $180 billion in lost income here. They have been able to rev up their economy and increase demand for oil with our dollars. Also interesting to note the next 3 biggest drains on the US economy are Japan, closely followed by Canada, and then Mexico.

Sox signed Giambi to help keep Frank?
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) I'm not sure about Frank vs Paulie, it's a close call, but that's largely b/c of injury worries. I don't know why you think Frank can't put up good numbers. Frank still draws 125+ walks in a full season and gets on base at a ridiculously good rate, home and away. That, and he'll still hit for power, though probably only 10-15 hr on the road. Those are great numbers, unless you restrict yourself to the single number, hr on the road. I haven't said I don't think Frank can put up good numbers. I don't know if he can outproduce Konerko. Honestly I think they bring them both back and this is a moot arguement. I just wanted to jump in when I didn't see both sides of an arguement being made. It wasn't fair to diss PK's road numbers, and then not mention Frank's. That is all.

Sox signed Giambi to help keep Frank?
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) Konerko's best year still didn't match Frank's worst year in a lot of areas. Also to think Frank had his best years here when Comiskey was still a pitcher's park. Past tense. Do you think 2006 Frank will be better than 2006 Paul. That is the question. Is it worth losing Paul Konerko in 2006, so that Frank Thomas will retire with the Sox, even if he can't put up the numbers anymore. We all know Frank's career will blow away anyone since Joe Jackson's untimely departure from baseball.

Vatician boots "Da Vinci" from shelves
QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 08:37 AM) As part of a broader question, can someone read, view, or listen to, unhealthy messages as part of research, or questioning, and not be harmed? Pete Townsend was busted for looking at child pornography, he claimed was for a project. Someone at the Vatican must have read the book to form an opinion, were they harmed? Could a loyal Sox fan spend the summer as a Cubs fan to see what it's like? I believe faith has to be tested. If it isn't, how do you know that what you believe is real, or that you really believe it. And it is biblically pretty clear, that if you were weak enough to let something like the "Da Vinci Code" alter your faith, you probably weren't going to get through the pearly gates in the first place.

Frank must testify at Thursday's hearings
QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 08:23 AM) A very high profile American industry may have been systematically violating federal drug laws. Seems like a good place for congress to take a look. Thomas and Schilling are examples of how to do it right. That should come out in the coverage. I would want a "victim" to come forward. Mr. Thomas you finished second in the MVP voting to a known steroid user, do you feel cheated? Powerful message. Not only that, but a Congressional Anti-Trust exemption is the reason that baseball has been able to get away with doing nothing for so long. Any other entity would have been subject to investigations and other problems. Not baseball.

Sox signed Giambi to help keep Frank?
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 07:56 AM) I personally believe Frank is more useful to this team as a player, and if they restructure, Thomas should get 6-8 million per year from us. Let's see how Konerko fairs away from US Cellular before he gets a Sexson/Glaus-like contract... I am really curious why you think Frank is more useful as a player? He cannot play the field anymore, and he hasn't been able to stay healthy either. Also why would you discount how Konerko plays at home, when Frank has a huge disparity home vs road too? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?statsId=4527 Franks hit 14 HRs at home and only 4 on the road, with his slugging and OPS dropping 200 points when he hit the road. You can't discount ones stats, and ignore the other guy.

Sox signed Giambi to help keep Frank?
QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 07:19 AM) OK, y'all convinced me JR's a lovable, sentimental fool, who I am certain wants Frank to finish his career in a White Sox uniform and if that means signing an admitted steroid user to a minor league contract, then by golly he will. And Frank will consider that magnanimous gesture in his decision to stay, because he and Giambi are tight, like brothers. [Too bad there is no liberal media to investigate this miscarriage of justice.

Frank must testify at Thursday's hearings
QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) Here's the way I see things happening: Congressman Davis: Mr. Palmeiro, did you, at any time ever use steroids or human growth hormone to enhance your major league career. Palmeiro: I refuse to answer, citing the 5th amendment. Davis: You have immunity from prosecution on this issue. Answer the question. Palmeiro: (under his breath) Oh s***. That's an interesting scenario. If you are testifying under immunity, can you still exersize your fifth amendment rights? Anyone know how that works?

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) Actually, I was just wondering if he was pitching in Charlotte or BHam? If I had to guess, he will be a set up man for Baj, but that is a tough call because there are a lot of pitchers to decide between AA and AAA. There are so many cusp swing pitchers that they have to decide whether they are starters or relievers before they even look at what to do with guys like Matt Smith.
