Comparing the 2005 team
QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) Carlton Fisk batted 2nd on that team. Even after Cruz got here? It has been a while and I was only 9 at the time.

Norihiro Nakamura now available to MLB teams
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) Would we keep both Valdez and Willie Harris on the roster? Are there enough spots? If we keep 11 pitchers, yes there is.

High Court Defers on 'Choose Life' Plates
QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 09:22 AM) That's sort of the point to begin with. I don't know the specifics of this court case - but the principle seems pretty similar. Personally, I think they should get rid of special plates anyway, and a lot of cops seem to think so too. Makes it harder to identify out of state plates. Thing is, its an easy revenue generator. The plates aren't going to change anytime soon.

Interesting Point
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 08:55 AM) I pretty much agree. I think everyone can be bought. But, I just think it is a sad comentary on our society. Its easy to say that as an American. If you want a really interesting read on the type of people we are dealing with read the December National Geographic on Afganistan. One of the tenets of their religion REQUIRES them to give shelter and safety to ANYONE who shows up on their doorstep. It doesn't matter if it their mortal enemy, they HAVE to do it. If they turn in someone, their life is over. It would be like having a child molester show up in your neighborhood... a person turning in Bin Laden would be viewed the sameway. In the article someone said a person turning in Bin Laden, his life wouldn't even be worth "an onion". One of the other interesting quotes was even if an American soldier showed up at their door, they would give them refuge. I highly recommend the article to anyone who wants to get a feel for thier society.

Who to Keep
QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 10:11 PM) I would trade Borchard for a groundskeeper. Why? We have the best groundskeeper in the game

Happy Birthday Arne Harris
I have no idea if he even reads here anymore, but he was one of the funniest guys of the old group that hung out on the ESPN boards. Whereever you are Arne, here's to you

National Compliment Day
So how about we play along and compliment the person above us? I'll even start. Mreye an absolutely devoted family man, and a cool guy to have a beer with.

Norihiro Nakamura now available to MLB teams
I'm going to unlock this with a general warning to all to drop the name calling... Anyways, I doubt the Sox are interested, as with this posting system you have to bid for the right just to negotiation with the player. I think the Sox are about capped out right now, and they have someone at 3B.

Comparing the 2005 team
I was trying to get a feel for this team by comparing them to another of the Sox teams that I have seen. I came to the conclusion that this team really resembles the 1983 team in a lot of ways. They have speed at the top of the order, thump in the middle of the order, great range on defense, and an entirely solid pitching staff. Opinions? Any other better teams to compare these guys too? The early 80's is about as far back as I remember well.

Autographs & Cards
Boy it is really hard to even tell who is going to be in BHam this year. There is going to be such a logjam in Charlotte, and that will set off a chain reaction all of the way through the system.

Illinois/Wisconson predictions
QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) UNC is a very good basketball team. He didn't say they were the best team but that is the team he thinks will win the NCAA championship. Personally I have no problem with him saying that either. Illinois or North Carolina would be my title pick if the tourney started today. UNC will present huge match up problems for anyone they get. They have 3 legitimate scorers. The one spot where UNC is weaker is they are not as deep. So basically the key would be for UNC to stay out of foul trouble.

Speed, Defense, Pitching UP
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) OK, we've improved in these areas. Is it a better mix than offense? You cannot defense against a 450 foot shot. I've been drinking the koolaide, but starting to wonder if it really is this easy, why doesn't every team do it? You can't defense speed either.

Comparison bet. Matsui and Iguchi back in 2003
QUOTE(gotoh00 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) There is a bias now in the American press that Japanese players don't qualify as rookies in the Majors, which is complete bull. That's why Hideki Matsui came in second in Rookie of the Year voting even though he had 100+ rbis. Expect that same discrimination towards Iguchi. After playing in a professional major league, Iguchi should not merit any consideration for rookie of the year either. Give it to a true rookie.

ACLU, that bastion of free speech.
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) Wrong again. We are a democratic republic. That puts democracy first! Socialists go to Europe. We don't want you here. Actually if you want to be technical, democratic describes the type of republic we live in... But silly me knowing the difference between a noun and an adjective...

This one is in for a rude awakening in a few years
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) All egotistical individualists please leave. I sick & tired of hearing this crap. You are nothing but a burden to the system. You are nothing but a burden to the tax payers. If you do not believe in democracy go to Europe or better yet to China. Democracy means majority rule. The school board represents the majority in that district. You as an individual have a right to be heard by the school district. That is where your power & influence ends. The only way this crap is going to end is if national & state congresses pass nuisance laws that costs these egotists $ when they place a burden on the courts with their frivolous suits. These same congresses should decide what constitutes a frivolous suit. So out of curiousity, are you willing to put your self where your mouth is? Are you willing to stand up to a Soxtalk test of democracy?

Delgado is a Marlin
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 04:06 PM) I'd rather have Iguchi and Marte over Castillo.......... Couldn't have said it any better. $5 million for Iguchi and Marte or $5 million for Castillo. I know I gotta go with the former.

Sox @ Cubs May. 20th
QUOTE(valponick @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) Hi, There is a bar by my house which I frequent that is planning a bus trip to this game. The cost is $60, that includes a ticket (200 section I believe), bus ride to and from the game and free beer before the game at the bar, on the bus up there and on the bus back. I thought I would extend this offer to some Sox fans who might live in the Northwest Indiana area. If you are interested PM me and I can arrange for you to get signed up. One thing though, I started a thread about a problem I was having with my taxes a few days ago....any of the douche bags who replied to that thread talking s*** don't bother to PM me, everyone else is welcome! Southsider gets first dibs because he picked me up a wristband by the way. Thanks for the offer, but I have a self-imposed ban on giving those Northside bastards a dime of my money. Have fun though!!!

2006 Sox Free Agents
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) Carl Everett has a team option for $5.5 million for 2006. The ONLY way that happens is if Frank flops, and Carl goes back to his all-star ways.

2006 Sox Free Agents
QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) It's not Mis Info. If you sign a 2 year deal your a free agent after the 2006 season. Sooooo Contreras contracts ends after the 2006 season as does Hermanson and Pollite. Frank too and Iguchi if the Option is not taken. AJ would be a free agent, his service time started in 2001 making him a 6yr man. Plus he was cut loose and his contract with us is only for a year and maybe an option. So he is too a free agent. The players i mentioned there contracts end after the 2006 season. Then you totally misread the question in the first post...
