  1. QUOTE(Man Of Steel @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) When ARENT those the right words?? Sometimes it is "f*** the Cubs" :fthecubs
  2. Last year they had ads for the condos going up around 35th and state. I wonder how those did? I'll bet they exploded in price. I have been commuting on the South Shore train for 6 years now, and it amazing how much that near south side has been built up.

  4. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) Rowand wasn't a good #2 hitter because he couldn't bunt. He practiced his bunting alot at the end of last season and this offseason because he was embarrassed by his failure to be able to lay down a bunt. If Aaron comes into camp and has the bunt down, and works on a good inside out swing to use the hole between 1st and 2nd, then I have no problem with him in the two hole, or anyone else who can do that for that matter. Just what I saw of Aaron, he would be a much better #3 or #7 or even leadoff, hitter.
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) While bunting ability is a nice tool to have, the ability to take pitches, hit behind the runner and to hit run are every bit as much a part of the equation of a number 2 hitter. I think too much emphasis is put on bunting ability around here ... especially for an AL club. Yes in theory, but in reality we have a manager who knows how to run a certian system, and if his players can't execute it, it makes Ozzie's abilities as a manager much more limited.
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) Am I the only one who doesn't want to see Uribe in the two spot? He's more of an RBI/HR guy, not really good for OBP/contact. I'd much rather have Rowand hitting there, but maybe that's just me... Honestly I have always thought that both Rowand and Uribe are terrible #2 hitters. If we came to camp without Iguchi, I would have rather seen Willie hit #2 or have Rowand lead off with SPod hitting #2.
  7. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) Fantastic move. I wake up to something like this after a 6 hour drive last night Since I can't read through this entire thread right now can someone tell me if the local media has picked this up? It has been picked up by the Score and MVP.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) A different domino effect is that the White Sox are on the radar of Japanese baseball players and their fans. I think we have earned much respect from our friends overseas. Kenny talked about that at Soxfest. He said the reception that Shingo got in Chicago, and the cult-like following he had everytime he got into a game, played huge in Japan. The fans and players there took note of that. Shingo also went back to Japan and talked about how great Chicago was to play for and in. Kenny said he owes lots of the White Sox buzz in Japan to the way the Sox fans took to Takatsu.
  9. I can't argue with that assessment Addy
  10. QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) yeah, I don't see how you could put a guy who has never played a big-league game in the 2-spot. Put him in the 9-spot and get him some confidence. They should put Rowand in the 2-spot so he gets some pitches to hit and get him off to a good start. Rowand wasn't going to be the 2 slot hitter even before the Iguchi signing. It was going to be Uribe.

  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 10:05 AM) But you HAVE to admit, even the rotation has several holes that could open. Two cuban pitchers who are large question marks, as well as JG who never lives up to his potential. There is alot of chance for error Big difference between holes that "could" open and holes that "are" open. Anything could happen. For the first time in maybe a decade we have a pitching staff that is solid 1-11. If there are injuries, there is no planning for that...

  16. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) Tiger looked good today. Not 1999-2000 good but maybe 2002 good. Good to see local product Luke Donald giving Tiger a run for his money.
  17. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) Now the job is restocking the minors. All the minor-leaguers thrown into deals has drained the system a bit. IF the Iguchi move is true, KW absolutely gets an A from me. Like you said, he addressed all needs, bolstered the bullpen and did it within budget. Meanwhile, Billy Beane was selling off his rotation.... After the hatchetjob that KW got in Beane's book, you know that has to be in the back of Billy's mind...
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxmatt @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) I guess it could go either way for #1 defensively. I was thinking of it like if the bulls played the spurs, going by the stats, the spurs would win 91-86. PPG is very subjective. As was pointed out, that could be altered by great defensive rebounding, not allowing second chances, or it could be something not at all a result of the defense, and that is how long the offense holds the ball. A team that works the shot clock into the red everytime they have the ball is going to compress the game, and create a lot less posessions, which means a lot less chances to score.
  19. I think this was the best off season in years. The Sox totally remade this team in a short period of time, without cutting payroll, while simultaniously getting all of their holes filled.

I don't remember if anyone mentioned it or not, but I saw " I Robot" over the weekend and loved it. Isaac Asimov was an incredible writer... BTW has anyone heard of plans to make the foundation trilogy into a movie?
  21. QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) Mark is gonna pitch over 200 inning this year...he has so much smooth innings and rarely has one of those innings that he's out there for half hour milking the cow.. You forget that he's thrown maybe 115 pitches in a game cause he does it seems with out effort..batters foul alot of pitches of him sometimes...but I don't see thinks changing..Ozzie is gonna leave him out there as long as he's doing good and not bases on pitch count. Ozzie did make it a point to say that he is going to decreases Marks inning to about 200 total. He feels great about this bullpen, and as long as they preform, he plans on giving all of his starters less innings.
  22. Excellent work Goldy
  23. Can I get a translation for the translation? Any other verification out there????
  24. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) 47 wins they will have the 3rd to fifth seed. That is how bad the easteren conference is. I can almost guarentee it won't be the 3rd seed. That will go to the division champ with the lowest amount of wins between the 3 divisional winners. That almost for sure will be the Atlantic winner.
  25. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) Is he on the 40 man roster? Will we have to send him through waivers to get him to AAA? He is on the 40 man roster, I don't know about the second part though... I don't know how many options he has left or how that works.
