Nuke, is this true?
QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) Why the hell does it cost so much to make a damn phone call...?? And its the exact reason that satillite phones have never taken off, and Iridium went bankrupt. Those phones work ANYWHERE in the world, and they are not dependant on towers and antennas. That's why they were the only phone network not to crash on 9-11. But the problem is they had to put up a bunch of satillites (I don't remember the exact number but it seems like it was 50+) in order to support the network. It is ultraexpensive to maintain and upkeep.

America Idol's finest..
QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) My problem isthat after that doughy William Hung, half of the people auditioning were trying to be soooo bad. They are trying to achieve the level of "fame" that William Hung received. It's rather sad. It takes away from the enjoyment of seeing real people really suck and think they don't. Instead we get overactors trying to REALLY suck and be comical to get a shot to be on the next season of the Surreal Life on VH1. I was thinking the samething. This season seems so contrived. I have turned off the show everytime so far this year, which this early in the game never happened in prior years. I loved watching people make fools of themselves... this year it seems so forced... :sleep

Rumors thread
That is hilarious. Haven't the Tigers learned anything about giving out long term deals to injury prone players? They just got out from under that horrific Higgenson deal, they almost paid Juan Gonzalez over $140 million, and now they are going to offer Maggs that kind of money? Well I can always take heart in the fact that De-Troit sucks.

9 year old Brazilian being scouted by Euro Soccer
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) It doesn't matter because he won't be signed for a few years. I can guarantee that. Just because teams are looking at him doesn't mean they've offered him a contract yet. These teams took forever to give Adu offers as it was. Signing him is a technicality in my eyes. The fact that they are even bothering a 4th or 5th grader just blows my mind.

9 year old Brazilian being scouted by Euro Soccer
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) Why isn't this in the Sports Bar? This kid won't sign for a few years and even if he does he will be playing on youth teams anyway. A big reason why Adu didn't sign with the European teams was that he wouldn't play much with the senior club. It has societal implications beyond sports. Is it right for a 9 year old kid to be being contacted by professional sports organziations?

Bulls vs Charlotte
QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Okafor is better than Gordon. For all around game, there isn't a question in my head of that. Gordon is a much better scorer that Okafor. Other than that, Gordon is lightyears behind Okafor in every other category except maybe passing ability, and that's only because I haven't seen enough of OK on the NBA level to see if his post passing is any good or not.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) It isn't up to Boras to tell a club how to run their business. Placing a player with a well run organization isn't a consideration of an agent?

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) Dude, can't agree with you anymore, this is the truth, he is looking out for the players..and people think that is a bad think.. Boras is not the bad guy, the bad guys are the owners who are dumb enough to pay what he asks... Let me asked the people that hate Scotty B this question, lets say for s***s and gigles you make 60k a year, and you hire scotty B he can get you 105k for doing the same job, but your company will take the loss.. would you do it? The problem is, if this is like most companies it is a zero sum gain. Payroll is a fixed number. If they pay you an extra $45k they have to cut that somewhere else. So instead of having guys who know how to do their jobs, you get a couple of newbies out of college who screw everything up, and make your job twice as hard. See also the Texas Rangers. ARod was surrounded with horrible players until the draftees could work through the system and start to contribute. By the time they were ready, they had decided they couldn't afford to pay one guy that much so they instead got a more moderately paid player and balanced the money around. Another great example of that is the White Sox taking Maggs and Carlos's money and turning it into a plethora of players and making the team as a whole more solid.- 6th sign of the end of the world

QUOTE(Sox1422 @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Damnit! I wish I would have known about this in high school. I drank so much Zima when I was a Junior in HS. What makes your stomach turn more? Drinking mouthwash or drinking Zima? Zima is soooooo nasty. :puke- Willie Harris Article
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) Kenny Williams and Ozzie Guillen, by identifying a player who is not with the program, are just doing their jobs. We, as fans, are aware of certain things that we know did happen. We know they traded for Robbie Alomar to hold 2B thru the second half of 2003. We know they they traded for Juan Uribe to push Harris at 2b as well as be a backup for Valentin. We know they traded for Robbie Alomar to push Willie in 2004. We know they traded for Scott Podsednik because Harris was ineffective in the lead off spot. We know they signed Tadahito Iguchi because they thought they needed an upgrade at 2B. And yet, ... get this .... Willie Harris is in SHOCK at this point. How many proverbial 2x4's do they have to hit this guy with? What all was said to Harris in private, which from what I've read, the assumptions are either "nothing" or "Ozzie's fault he can't lead Harris". There's an old saying ... You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. This is not the Sox. This is all on Willie Harris, his stupity, his arrogance and his ego. many various members of the White Sox organization-> Any questions?- Scott Boraaasss

QUOTE(Man Of Steel @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) I also dont see why TY insists that IU played such a more difficult schedule than Illinois this year.. Illinois Wake Forrest (16 - 2) Gonzaga (14 - 4) Cincinatti (15 - 3) Arkansas (14 - 5) Oregon (11 - 5) Missouri (10 - 9) Georgetown (13 - 5) Indiana UNC (16 - 2) UConn (12 - 4) Notre Dame (12 - 5) Kentucky (15 - 2) Charlotte (14 - 3) Missouri (10 - 9) Based on that IU may have played a SLIGHTLY more difficult schedule, but Wake Forrest beat UNC and Cincy hammered Charlotte, Georgetown also beat ND.. so technically we played the better of the teams as of right now.. Just want to throw this out there because I am sick of hearing He Gawn make excuse after excuse about IU.. but I can understand why, its his favorite team It has a lot to do with the bad teams they play too. That nuetralizes the really good teams.- Willie Harris Article
