SoxFan1 replied to Jenksismyhero's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Jeff Goodman reporting that Groce to Illinois is a done deal. Sun Times also reporting a done deal. http://sports.cbsimg.net/collegebasketball...o-replace-weber http://www.suntimes.com/sports/colleges/11...ball-coach.html -
Might not be a bad idea to turn on ESPN2 and watch this Tsonga/Rafa quarterfinal.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) Looking for some good healthy meal ideas, I currently eat the following: Meal 1: 2 or 3 scrambled eggs (max of 2 yolks) no oil or butter. sprinkle of cheddar cheese toasted whole wheat bread Sriracha or some other sauce Meal 2: 3/4 cup cooked brown rice 2 eggs scrambled zero calorie wing sauce boiled chicken breast (put it all in a pan to cook together) The 2nd meal I also make in a fried rice fashion, but with no oil or butter but with some frozen veggies and different low cal sauces/seasonings. Im looking for stuff that can be made quickly, or added to these meals to change them up a bit. I also eat lots of salad (with limited dressing) and have been trying to eat more vegetables and fruits (especially those that fall under the negative calorie category). I also drink a protein shake after working out. That a whole hell of a lot of protein with 4-5 eggs, chicken and a protein shake. Lately I've been watching my intake a lot. Breakfast is either oatmeal with fruit (a banana or strawberries/blueberries) and a fiber one bar OR 3-4 eggs, scrambled, eaten alone.

The Official Thread for Joe Cowley and his Agenda.
SoxFan1 replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He is quite the piece of work, that Cowley. The title of the article: "White Sox have replaced Jake Peavy as his worst enemy" then he puts IN THE ARTICLE "First and foremost, Peavy is his own worst enemy." Well done. Then: Very nice. -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) Any of you get jaw pain while/after running? Must be an Iowa thing. Swam laps for the first time in a while today. That sucked.

Bears signed WR Devin Thomas tonight to a 1 year deal. Former 2nd round pick out of Michigan State. Another quality special teamer who could give some depth at WR. Essentially, he's Sam Hurd's replacement.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 07:47 AM) I felt the actual Hunger Games was the most boring part. Everything leading up to it had me hooked. I was the opposite. I actually turned to my friend at one point and said "when do the f***ing games start?"

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) I like it better now that it is during the regular season and the playoffs. Two different ways was just stupid I agree that it is better to have it universally in the regular season and playoffs, but I just don't like the rule itself. Either make it a pure sudden-death, or give each team a possession. Period.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 01:45 AM) Hmmm....interesting, I always heard the opposite, that he was a jerk and pretty self-centered. Maybe my Hawkeye bias, haha. I did spend a lot of time around the team from 1988-1990, I was one of Roy Marble's "tutors/ghostwriters." Makes me feel so old to see his son now playing for Iowa. I've met him and my mom knows him pretty well. Extremely nice guy, really humble. Gave my mom his leather Sonics team jacket way back in the day. He's a fun guy to be around, always joking. -
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 01:06 PM) New OT rules have been passed. The same rules from the postseason now apply to all games. Didn't like it originally, don't like it even more now. All turnovers will now be reviewed, just like all TD's are reviewed. This saves Lovie Smith 2 challenges/timeouts a game.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 11:36 PM) "I actually in the last 48 hours with the things they’ve said about the Illinois program, of course I’m going to be biased being from there, I have reconsidered my position on that," Kendall Gill said on "The Carmen, Jurko & Harry Show" on ESPN 1000. "Before I said, you know what I don’t have any interest in coaching. Now in the last 48 hours, coaching, maybe I might want to do that to put the program back on the map. "I know I have the ability. I played professional basketball for 15 years, also college for four years and an analyst for six. I know the game. I would consider if it if I got the call." LOL. Always one of the most humble, low-key athletes on the planet. They might as well pick B.J. Armstrong as head coach. Here's what incoming sophomores Mike Shaw and Tracy Abrams had to say: Might as well!!! RT @1Abrams3: Let J. Howard run the show — Mike Shaw (@MikeShaw15) March 27, 2012 Fellow sophomore Myke Henry added: I think they might as well just let jerrence become the head coach it's taking to long to figure out!! — Myke Henry (@MykeHenry20) March 27, 2012 Big man Nnanna Egwu said: Last two workouts have been great with coach Howard. He would make a great head coach. They might as well make him our new head coach — Nnanna Egwu (@egwu_32) March 27, 2012 Again: all signs point to Groce being the next head coach at Illinois. But this entire process has been weird, so it's fitting it will (apparently) come to an end under less-than-ideal conditions. FWIW, Kendall Gill is one of the nicest human beings on the planet. -
QUOTE (lord chas @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 07:22 PM) Looking to buy my first big boy suit for job interviews/weddings. Any advice on what to look for or avoid? QUOTE (The Baconator @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 07:47 PM) First suit? I would go with a deep charcoal gray, side vent, 2-button. Charcoal is flexible in many situations and 2-button will never go out of style. Single- or side-vent is really up to you (single-vent is pretty normal). Definitely go solid for your first suit. Agreed, either a dark grey or black. 2-button, double/side vent is the go-to. I do not own, and never will own, a center single vent suit coat. I'd also avoid the wide peak lapel. If you go peak, make it subtle. For my first suit, I'd do basic notch lapel. All this aside, even more important than the number of buttons or vents, is that the suit FITS PROPERLY. The sleeves need to be the correct length, the blazer needs to be snug but not tight, the shoulders need to actually be at your shoulders, etc. And fwiw, interview suits and wedding suits are two totally different monsters.

I believe yesterday was Oberon Day in Michigan. Good beer, but man is it overrated.

Saw The Hunger Games tonight. Went in with low expectations, not having read the book, and with just basic knowledge of the premise. I liked it, didn't love it. It was slow and boring at times. Good movie, but that's about it. Oh, and Jennifer Lawrence is very attractive.

Jake Peavy pitches like an ace.

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 12:36 AM) I agree with this, awesome flick... I read somewhere that Tom Hardy said (Most likely sarcastically) that he got that big simply by doing something like 1000 pushups per day. But we all know it was steroids His traps in the movie are unbelievable.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 07:56 AM) I personally believe the P90X plyo workout is the best leg workout there is, it translates to things you do everyday in a way lifting weights (squats, etc) never translate too. It's pretty much the only P90X video I still use, because otherwise I prefer running on the treadmill, rollerblading or lifting weights for other workouts. IMO, P90X can never hit my arms/chest/shoulders/back as hard as free weights can, but when it comes to leg workouts, I think Plyo-X is tops. I agree with you. I don't actually do the program, I just pick and choose videos and incorporate it into my own thing. The plyo is awesome for the lower body, and the thing I love most about it is that it focuses a lot on explosiveness and muscle bursts, which really increases your overall athleticism.

Evan Turner @thekidet Coach Groce's offense is legit. Built for guards. The big ten is going to get even better in the future. Yessir Evan Turner @thekidet @BP3 you're going to enjoy Groce's offense if he's your new coach, believe me! -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) And what kills me is that the one thing that you have to have in college sports is a recruiter, and by all accounts, from just about everyone, the guy recruits really, really well. I'm not 100% thrilled, but they could have done much worse. He seems like a guy that really wants the job. With Shaka or Stevens, unless they had immediate success, I think you'd have to be concerned about them taking off in 4-5 years. If they do take him, I'll choose to look at the positives. He was a great recruiter, his team seemed to really care about him, he got the most of his players in big moments, and you have to love his intensity and desire to win. He really seems to instill confidence in his players. -
FINALLY got a chance to watch Warrior. Holy s*** I love it. One of the most manly movies you could imagine nearly brought me to tears. It's also going to be a motivational tool for me when I work out.

I always get excited to do P90X plyometrics. Then 20 minutes in, I hate myself. And the next day, I hate myself even more.

3 @ TEX (1-2) 3 @ CLE (2-1) 3 VS. DET (2-1) 4 VS. BALT (3-1) 3 @ SEA (3-0) 3 @ OAK (1-2) 4 VS. BOS (1-3) 13-10 No real rhyme or reason...much like this franchise the past few years. BTW, the Tigers don't scare me at all outside of Verlander. Even then, he's another 130 pitch outing away from his arm flying off behind his fastball. Good thing Leyland is such a great manager of his bullpen. Oh wait.....

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 07:58 PM) The Preds own the Hawks this year. They look like a legit Stanley Cup contender. They're absolutely loaded. That team, over a full season, is tops in the NHL.
