Gotta get Moncada and Giolito done too. Those are gonna be more expensive.

Can the 20s be the best decade in Sox history?
Jack Parkman replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Mets, Angels, A's and Sox all have had similar issues over the years as 2nd fiddle in a large market. Think of what the Angels are doing with Trout and think back to the Sox with Sale/Abreu. The parallels are staggering. What sucks is that the Sox don't throw money at the problem like the Mets and Angels do. If the Sox had drafted Mike Trout in 2009 instead of Jared Mitchell, and all else being equal, would they have kept him? -
Golf question of the year: Will Brooks Koepka continue to not give a shit about normal tournaments and run over everyone at majors? He seems to be in the mix at most of them, even though he only won one last year, IIRC he finished runner up at both the Masters and US Open.

Can the 20s be the best decade in Sox history?
Jack Parkman replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox have been around for 118 seasons and have yet to get into double digits in playoff appearances. 3 of them were 100+ years ago. They have 6 playoff appearances in the last century. Half of them came from 2000-2008. -
Can the 20s be the best decade in Sox history?

I hope JR realizes his mortality and pulls an Illitch. Not with FA spending, but retaining their own good players. Just my opinion, but the following players have a chance to be top 3-5 in baseball at their position: Moncada Robert Giolito Kopech If the Sox could find a way to keep them all for the majority of their careers, I can live with the back end of those contracts being bad and going down the Tigers path. If they all reach that height, if they kept just those 4 around I'd be happy. I'm also smart enough to know that if Giolito didn't go to school last winter and change things up, I would have looked like a moron as he washed out of baseball and became the biggest disappointment in awhile. I expect him to continue to get better now that he doesn't have to worry about mechanics anymore. -
Thanks @Look at Ray Ray Run My NY resolution is to try to tone down the hot takes bases on SSS and try to not be so bipolar with my posts. I don't appreciate all of the crap I get on here but that comes with the territory. If I wasn't broke as fuck you have my personality down to a T.

Right now, the current bar is the 2000s that came with 3 division titles(2000, 2005, 2008) and a WS title in 2005. The Sox also won 86 games in 2003 and 90 in 2006 while failing to make the postseason. What would it take the Sox achieving to surpass that over the next decade, in your opinion? First thing on my list: Consecutive postseason appearances for the first time in franchise history.

Floyd is an ILB not an OLB in a 3-4. He's being played out of position. Definitely not worth a top 10 pick though.

2020 Projection for Moncada from Brooks Baseball/Roto
Jack Parkman replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Moncada has an elite eye and once he starts getting the respect from pitchers and umpires, his BB% is going to skyrocket. It wouldn't shock me if he starts putting up .400 OBPs in 2021 and later. I'm expecting .370+ this year from him. -
OMMFG. It's too bad that most of that talent manifested itself elsewhere(Semien, Voldemort, Bassit, Devenski) However, between Sale and Abreu alone, it would have to be pretty high.

Pace is delusional. George should have fired him at the end of the presser. I have no words after the Floyd/Shaheen comments.

2020 Projection for Moncada from Brooks Baseball/Roto
Jack Parkman replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm bearish on Collins' hit tool but I still think he should have received a look. I would've preferred Puig over EE for the positional versatility and as a platoon partner for Collins and Mazara. EE was someone I thought they should look to acquire at the TDL if the Sox were in contention and Collins sucked. -

How many games will Pineda miss for them? About 40? I thought he got suspended in early September. -
2020 Projection for Moncada from Brooks Baseball/Roto
Jack Parkman replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There are 3 types of players that projection systems struggle with: 1. A young player who breaks out in their 2nd or 3rd MLB season or later(Moncada, Giolito and Anderson) 2. Hitters who pulverize baseballs such that they have an abnormally high BABIP and also strike out a bunch (Moncada and Judge) 3. Pitchers that have a track record of striking out a lot of batters but also putting up an ERA over 4.25. (Robbie Ray and historically, Javier Vazquez) -
2020 Projection for Moncada from Brooks Baseball/Roto
Jack Parkman replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes. What he's doing is sustainable because he hits the ball very hard. He's just below Judge levels of pulverizing baseballs. -
2020 Projection for Moncada from Brooks Baseball/Roto
Jack Parkman replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Moncada breaks these models. He pulverizes baseballs. He when he makes contact, the balls are absolutely murdered. He's top 5 in baseball for EV on ground balls and top 10 overall. -
Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
Jack Parkman replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
https://theathletic.com/1497592/2019/12/30/white-sox-announce-dallas-keuchel-desire-to-be-taken-seriously-in-the-al-central/ According to Fegan, the vesting option exists. However, the conditions that allow the option to vest have not been made public. There are more conditions involved besides the 160 IP in 2021 and 22. Otherwise, it's a team option. -

I used the NHL model as the baseline. the NHL salary floor is roughly 74% of the cap. Because there is more money involved in baseball, I think that a soft cap system with a floor is a nice compromise. Make the luxury tax ceiling of 208M the cap, then 74% of that would be roughly 154M. That would be the floor. You can make a rule such that you can't exceed the soft cap for more than 3 seasons in a decade. Use them wisely. They could also make a "Trout Rule", similar to the NBA's Bird Rule, where you're allowed to exceed the soft cap without penalty for 1 player that was acquired before they reached one year of MLB service time. I also am a proponent of changing the FA rules a bit. The rules are the following: Players are allowed to become Free Agents at age 29 with 6+ full seasons of MLB service, 6 seasons after the season of their MLB debut, or Age 31 if the player makes his MLB debut at age 25 or older. Age 25/29/31 is considered as follows: The player must be 25/29/31 years old or older by the end of the regular season following the winter of their FA. It puts everyone on the same playing field in FA. Contracts could actually be used as a comparables. It would kill the service time issue as everyone would know when players reach FA. Everyone has an opportunity to be come a FA between the ages of 29-31. There would be no illusions of what you're getting or not in FA. Also, after a player's second full season in the majors, a player is allowed arbitration. This way, players who jump into superstardom immediately get paid at a younger age. You only get two cheap years. -

I agree with you here. If the Owners don't want a cap&floor system, and they don't want to open their books, they have to remove draft pick penalties from the luxury tax equation. -
Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
Jack Parkman replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's not, but let's not forget that Moncada was worth 3.3 fWAR in his rookie season and a half. Moncada could get close. Moncada has been worth 9 fWAR in his career so far. He's a good bet for at least 16 IMO. If they match or improve on their 2018, I think they're going to get somewhere in the 17-18M range. -
Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
Jack Parkman replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Moncada put up nearly 6 WAR last year, 8 isn't out of the question. Moncada's 2019 was close to Bryant's 2017. Most of baseball's best hitters are 3B right now. You can't take that away from Moncada. If Moncada played a full season with rest(154 games) linear extrapolation would have put him at 6.6 fWAR in 2019. Giolito was 8th in baseball in DRA- last year. If he get's better or does it again, that's some pretty lofty company for him too. I said they'd get around 20M combined, and I mean it, even if it's just short by a bit. -

If Moncada and Giolito do what they did last year again, only the two of them will be around $20M. -
Offseason 2019-2020 MLB Catch All Thread
Jack Parkman replied to iWiN4PreP's topic in The Diamond Club
No, it fixes a lot. If every team was forced to have a $100M+ payroll it would change a ton. The middle class would get paid again. You make the floor 70% of the cap, problem solved. If the current tax is a hard cap, then nobody can spend more than $210M, on payroll, but everyone has to spend $147M. More teams will be able to keep their own players. There could even be a salary scale with performance bonuses for rookies so they get paid more. Even the freaking A's and Rays are making a ton of money. Don't let them tell you otherwise. I honestly don't think the owners want a salary cap either because they'd have to open up the books. They don't want the players to know how much money they're making. -

Jack Parkman replied to iWiN4PreP's topic in The Diamond Club
It's insulting to their fanbase to start a new network and slash payroll simultaneously. With the way things are right now, everyone that isn't a star player is getting screwed. Either bite the bullet and go to a cap and floor system, or eliminate the incredibly punitive parts of the luxury tax. I think the thing that is making every rich team pause a moment is the forfeiture of the 1st round draft pick for going over 3 years in a row. They're perfectly content do do it for 2 years, but they can't do it for that 3rd year.
