That was with an elbow about to snap.

Surely you can't be serious. I am serious and don't call me Shirley.

Official NHL COVID season thread

I think Kane is going to age gracefully and I think he's more likely to finish here. Look at Martin St. Louis' 30s and I think Kane's are going to look a lot like that. With Toews, I have no idea as he's already been up and down the last few years. St. Louis was putting up 80+ points until age 35. https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/s/stlouma01.html -
If JDM can keep up the OBP, I'd probably rather have him. He put up a .383 OBP last year. I didn't realize the gulf between Martinez and Castellanos in OBP.

Official NHL COVID season thread

I know, but it keeps seeming more and more likely. As a fan, I hope they retire having never played a game in another uniform. In the Cap world I realize that's really unlikely. -

Honest question: Do 19 and 88 ever wear another uniform? -
Most likely Robert will be the superstar under team control past 2023.

Would you trade for Mookie Betts, and what would you trade
Jack Parkman replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think that this should be done regardless of whether or not they are competing. If they end up taking a step back, so be it. You can never let a star player walk for nothing. -

That's what I'm a concerned about with Moncada. He has $31.5M in the bank already before even reaching arbitration. Same with Robert and Giolito. You go to Moncada and Giolito this offseason and next offseason with an extension and if either or both turn it down, you start listening. None of them are hurting for money so it depends on if they want to be a part of this or not. I'm glad someone is on the same page as me on this. -
Now Bumgarner's a pipedream....great. if he's a pipedream so is Wheeler and JDM so let's just talk about the dumpster diving.

With an already agreed upon extension as a condition to make a deal? Yeah that planet exists. -

Yeah if they end up trading him someone's going to pay. I'd imagine any deal this winter includes a 72 hour window to lock him up, so Boston can maximize return. In that case, it would cost Robert+ so hard pass. That's not efficient spending at all. I'd rather take the chance that he hits the open market next year. -

If you listen to reports out of Boston it's quite likely. I also don't trust the Sox to pay what it takes to get him locked up. -

By the way the answer to the thread title is No and Nothing. Just wait a year and go after him when all it costs is money and a 2nd round pick. -
They wouldn't. They'd only take him as a salary dump.

I don't think that it is crazy that Moncada and Giolito agree to extensions this winter. It's going to take a little more than Bregman's money IMO. Something like 6/130. He's 24 so he'll hit the market at 30 which is still young enough to get paid a lot of money. He'd probably make about the same amount of money taking that deal and hitting the FA market at 30 as he would through arbitration and hitting FA at 28.

Bumgarner pitched 210 innings and had 200+ k this year. He's definitely in a tier above Wheeler and Keuchel even though the ERAs are similar. Wheeler and Bumgarner are similar but Bumgarner's durability and left-handedness puts him above Wheeler IMO. Both in the NL: Bumgarner: 3.2 fWAR, 3.90 ERA, 203 k in 207.2 IP Wheeler: 4.7 fWAR, 3.96 ERA 195 k in 195.1 IP The fWAR difference is based on Wheeler having a 3.48 FIP vs Bumgarner's 3.90. The difference between the two are hits and HR. Otherwise very similar. Bumgarner gives up fewer hits and walks than Wheeler, but gave up more HR. I think when you look at it objectively, Bumgarner is the better pitcher.
-
I think Bumgarner is the most likely "high profile" FA pitcher that the Sox would sign. The next tier is Keuchel and Wheeler, next tier is Alex Wood. I don't think that Cole or Strasburg are options, though I'd be willing to be surprised.
-
We don't have to trade all of them, but there's no room for Sheets with Vaughn here, and I'd rather use Basabe/Rutherford/Gonzalez to upgrade the Sox one hole in RF for the foreseeable future. There is a chance that they move one of their young pitchers to do that, and if I'd have to pick it would be Lopez first and then Cease. They'd have to sign Strasburg/Bumgarner and Wheeler/Keuchel to pull that off.
-
Yeah, and those are the reasons why these guys might still have trade value. If they do I'd bail on them.

They changed that rule. He can be traded after the WS. -

You could get him for Vaughn or Madrigal as the centerpiece. They don't have the payroll room to re-sign him. Even then I wouldn't trade for him. If you want him you can get him for just money in 2021. -

With one year left on his deal, Giolito is worth significantly more than Betts. Holy overpayment, Batman! -

Yeah it's going to cost Stiever to get Nimmo, and if that is the case I'd pass.
